Looks like Success HK is going to be selling PSP units on a non-preorder basis beginning Monday. Hope you're rich though. US$584 + Shipping.

Of course, if you are rich, they probably won't let you down. I've ordered all sorts of accessories, hardware, and games from them over the years and have recieved everything I ordered--although admittedly I've never bought an item marked up almost $400.

Jeez.

i expected my local mom-and-pops store to have PSPs today - they break deadlines all the time.

A day before DS , this place had 20 DS in stock and all the games.

I went to see him this morning.
He has NO PSPs at all , explaining that even though he put an order in early, he couldn't get any units.

But he did have games ...

2 copies of Ridge
2 copy of Lumines

200k units vs 300k units takes these stores out of the loop i guess.

"did you pick up the games, or just waiting until tomorrow"

i have everything on preorder so i'm just getting it all tomorrow.

Want a PSP without getting reamed? Well, get your computer finger ready...

TOKYO--Parents contemplating the dire situation of finding empty shelves of PSPs shortly after Sunday's launch got some good news from Sony today.

Sony announced that it will ship a second batch of PSPs on December 22. Additionally, the company will begin taking preorders for the handheld on its official online shopping site this coming Monday. This will be only the second time that Sony has accepted preorders for the handheld. When Sony previously took preorders, its online shopping site became inaccessible for nearly half a day due to high traffic.

So get ready... it ain't gonna be pretty.

I'm going to try to do this. Note that they won't ship outside of Japan, though...:(

I know, I'm going to try to get my "friend" (well, aquantaince at best) to pre-order it for me and then send it my way. I'd pay him a little extra (50 bucks) to get it 'ere.

Amirox: I thought Sony was shipping 100k per week for the rest of the month. Is this 12/22 shipment special somehow? PEACE.

If you were a thief living in Japan this would be the perfect opportunity. Steal all the units tonight from one of the major stores that'll have about 50 and sell on ebay at $500 each and you make $25k.

Well, it's not really clear... but I believe it's a part of it.

Kinda hard to steal 50 fair-sized boxes and run from the Japanese police in a crowded city...

.... too full of pizza
after end of year party
to care
...
and footy starts soon
...

see you at 5am

also - other weird points :

ZERO units in local mom and pop stores
ZERO units in CC at TD
No units other than the 50 preorders at Sakuraya and Tsutaya
...

Who is getting the 200k units????

i got this email from liksang, guess i will get my PSP in januari
If you have been following videogame news in the recent month, you will have realized by now that the PSP will be very expensive. There is a huge shortage (Supply much shorter than Demand) and any shop with PSP systems in Japan can sell their complete stock within 23 milliseconds for a premium price. Most shops don't even have PSPs.

As with any other console release, Lik Sang will buy as much stock as possible and sell systems for the present market price. Some of you might remember the PlayStation 2 went for US$ 829 with Street Fighter EX 3 and the disappointing Ridge Racer V (and that was even a couple of weeks later than launch).

Lik Sang has three shipments scheduled coming in within the next weeks. Only the first shipment is 100% confirmed and will contain PSP Value Packs (PSP-1000K). The rest will depend on Sony's shipping schedule in Japan and the prices will not drop before, at best, third shipment, and in worst case scenario, early 2005.

When the first mass shipment reaches Lik Sang, you will receive an email containing the price of the first stock. If you decide to be part of the PSP Launch and the price is acceptable to you, please reply to the email immediately confirming that we should ship your order.

If you choose to wait for cheaper stock to arrive, there is no need to reply to the email, as ignoring the first launch offer still lets you keep your spot in the reservation list.

I don;t want to pay more than 50$ difference with the retail price so i guess i will have to wait till the 3th or 4th shipment. ofcourse i already tought it would be like this so i can wait.

So, basically, Lik Sang was selling preorders they didn't have right?

You know what - no matter how limited it is, the cost of a PSP is STILL 25000 yen.
