Psychonauts -- PC or Xbox?

Which one should I get? Is it PC friendly or is it more designed for consoles? I use my GameCube controller for my PC so if it allows use of a gamepad, please let me know.

PC with a joypad is great, runs smoother at least on my machine

if you have a controller get the PC version. The Xbox version has some issues with the sound if you have an older Thompson Drive in it... plus, the higher resolution makes it look alot better.

also, someone is supposedly working on a hi-rez texture pack for the PC version. So, there is allways that.

I played the Xbox demo and liked it quite a bit. Someday I will get around to picking it up. But I can't imagine playing a platformer with a keyboard.

nooo. :( i just got advent rising and its got some odd issues with sound and background music.. iei. sometimes its skips, and sometimes it stops playing. i dont know if they are issues with the game in general, or if its my thompson drive. its probably the latter though. :/

how much is a decent pad for the pc ?

PC version all the way. High res + DX 9 + FSAA = Psychonauts at its best. The control is flawless and maps perfectly to pretty much any quality pad (or usb adapter). 3rd person console ports rarely translate well to the PC platform but Psychonauts is a rare exception.

Is there a host where this might show up soon? Interested in checking it out.

They both kick ass but I agree if you have a good pad then the PC version edges out the XBOX version. Really, no matter what version you get you will have so much fun it wont matter!

I just tried the pc demo with a keyboard, and all I can say is that the camera control is a bit counter-intuitive. To move the camera left, you have to move the mouse right and vice versa for moving the camera right. This is a bit of a problem, for moving the camera directs what direction you move in. This little problem caused me to feel pretty dizzy, so I had to stop playing 5minutes in. All in all, don't bother with the pc version unless if you have a joypad, or i guess if you rotate your mouse 180 degrees.

yeah I think everyone here said dont bother without a gamepad. But, the guy said he has one, so PC version all the way.

As far as the high res texture pack, it was some guy at mixnmojo who claimed to be working on it. Dont know what will come of it.. Im personally hoping that Double Fine will come out with an official one. There is no way someof those really poor quality textures are what they started out with... the PC version is hampered only by the textures.. :(

Does the full version run better than the demo? (for the pc). It ran absolutely terrible, but it was a nice game regardless.

how is your system? I know there was a bug with some processors that messed it up pretty good, there is a patch for the demo that fixes it IIRC... but if the demo doesnt run well you are going to have issues. I can personally crank the settings, FSAA, etc and get a very nice frame rate.

Yeah, the Xbox version does support widescreen. Here's a completely awful shot of it running on my HDTV

The best choice in my opinion is just to get a converter to use a PS2 controller (or Xbox/Gamecube, whatever floats your boat) - there are tons of cheap ones on Ebay. PC gamepads have always been way behind console ones.
