Anacondas, reticulated and burmese pythons should be banned.

Anacondas are fucking vicious and over aggressive. Retics are more docile but should not be handled by someone that isnt licensed. Im not sure how I feel about a Burm. They are beautiful pets but thats why people get in over their heads. They like the way they look when young and then they grow up quick.

Im not even sure why someone would want a retic or an anaconda. Its not like they have awesome variations of breeds like a ball python. You only own an anaconda if you have a deathwish.

Monitors are much more temp dependent than snakes. They also are far more generic feeders, Niles especially could cause problems with gator populations because they will raid nests. Gators are perfectly capable of eating young pythons and snakes are a prey species to them. The biggest problem with pythons for gators would probably be food competition.

I think people should be able to keep exotics that they want, but I'm not necessarily opposed to some sort of permits. I don't think a burm should be something you can buy at a PetSmart. I've seen people buy burms just because they are cheaper than a kingsnake. :/ Just like the reason water and niles being the most common monitors, they are cheap and small when young, people don't think about the costs to house and feed ten years down the line. The import process is catch a gravid burm, keep it for a month, sell the babies, throw the mother in the trash. Rinse and repeat.

Monitors are bad ass, but only two species could possibly be considered able to kill a human.

Dogs are a far bigger danger to people than these reptiles.

Well, retics have a ton of awesome variations too.

Cool, a Florida snake thread! If you guys in Central Florida haven't been yet, the venom show at the Reptile World Serpentarium is amazing. I recorded a bunch of videos of milking snakes for venom on my Youtube channel. Here's a Cottonmouth video.

question: what are the chances of coyotes or wolves being introduced to combat pythons? There's no chance for apes or tigers, so the next best predator that resides in North America would be those two.

If not for large predators, badgers and the like could help wear down the population of smaller and raid the nests for eggs, too.

I don't think wolves can live in a swamp. They are designed to eat large land mammals in forests and plains.

yah, sort of figured they wouldn't be a great option, but I do think the coyote would be a perfect fit since it has been able to adapt to many environments, although reading up on it, it has been stated that the habitat isn't well suited for coyotes.

A large constrictor would eat them too anyway.

Has the thread been beset by conservatives asserting that humans can't do anything to effect the environment yet?

Not that I noticed. Would that even be an issue in this context?

Here's where we need robots disguised as small mammals who then tear through snakes from the inside out and rip the heads off of the babies.
