Maybe and it's not to dismiss your point, this may not be the time or thread for a discussion on that.
Yeah, people are getting pretty tribalistic.

The decline over the past 3 years has been absolutely insane. They over moderated too hard to the left. Doing so they got rid of most of the vocal opposition to the extremist views. Then it just created an echo chamber and a place for that extreme narrow minded far left to fester and grow.RIP.
I'm embarassed for that awful forum.
5 deep here.RIP.
Guess the pubs in the UK will be busy tonight having a drink in her honor?
Anyone have any good links to objective but fair articles, opinion pieces, or Youtube videos describing the life and times of Her Majesty?
Sad she died and sad this middleage bs will continue after her death.
I'm from a constitutional monarchy, so I'll take a shot at this.My condolences to the folks across the pond who admired her. She had quite an interesting life, that's for sure. As an American, I can't say that I truly understand the emotional significance of royalty, but I can respect it as a historically and culturally significant institution that provided a sense of pride, identity, and happiness for lots of people. I hope we can all take some inspiration from her accomplishments.
A lot of the emotion also comes from the more theatrical and glamorous aspects of the tradition, after all kings and queens in their splendid castles populate the stories we are all told from a very young age, so in some sense they are a living connection to history and myth. Throw all of that into a bowl and you've got royalty.
Yup its insane the events she lived through.RIP
It's crazy to think all the big events and changes she saw while on the throne.
its always sad when when someone dies who devoted their life to others and touched the lives of many. It's always sad when a rich, privileged monarch dies peacefully in her bed at a very old age.
Seriously. Even the 4chan threads are showing more sensitivity.RIP.

More than about bio pronouns and the suppression olympics, that's for sure.People still care about this monarchy shit in 2022?
Of course. Get off the internet and reee and just watch the news or go to the pub over the next few weeksPeople still care about this monarchy shit in 2022?
True, but this still depends on the person. If Elizabeth had been a promiscuous, hard drinking socialite who always manages to come across as indifferent and selfish in times of hardship, she could have irrevocably tarnished the tradition and all of those high minded ideals she is expected to personify.Bingo.
It's less about the person, and more what they represent. The weight of history and time, encapsulated in a human being. The anthropomorphic personification of a national identity, steeped in battle, ceremony, pomp, circumstance, honour and service. In many ways, the Queen was one of the last things that connected modern Britain to that idealised past.
Great picture. Lets face it the old bird was a dude. My grandma popped her cloggs long before i knew her. Lizzie filled a gap god rest her soul.True, but this still depends on the person. BTW, this seems to be the last public photograph taken of her, it's actually pretty iconic IMHO. The way she barely even rises over the mantlepiece. Vulnerable but dignified and warm.
Just chatting to the Mrs, lets face it the royal family dropped a few bollocks in my life time but i tell you what whose family hasn't?
When she became Queen Churchill was still Prime Minister.RIP

You just need his nickname for it to set in. King Charles III The FaithfulI can’t go with “King Charles”. It’s just not working in my brain.

That in itself is wild.
A lifetime can be a long time. I work in an assisted living home and last year our oldest resident died at the ripe old age of 93 (IIRC). While making arrangements it occurred to us that she was born in same year, same city as Anne Frank. She became Queen four years before Sputnik 1 was launched..
..and two years before Albert Einstein died.
She was the sensible mother/grandmother figure for not just the UK but a bunch of nations, even the ones not still in the commonwealth. The only people alive who had anyone but her as Queen would be over 70 years old to this year.I’m usually someone who doesn’t get emotional with 99% of notable deaths, and I did for this and I’m not British and have never been to the UK. Don’t know what it is about this one that really got me. RIP. There probably will never be another one quite like her again.
Pale white shut-ins sipping their soy milk lattes thinking they're king of their studio apartment by calling her a colonizer on a forum no one takes seriously anymore.I had a look at the other forum and I really don't know what to say, just people repeating the same rude jokes and historical inaccuracies.
Why not? The name has a ton of history and short of being beheaded he can’t do worse than the last King with that name.I can’t go with “King Charles”. It’s just not working in my brain.
Yea I don't think 4chan makes a good barometer here, considering how viciously racist posters are on there in general. Had it been a non-white figure of similar social standing it would be an entirely different sentiment over there lolSeriously. Even the 4chan threads are showing more sensitivity.
Of course they are. The site has turned to garbage for a long while. It was confusing why they hated her and it’s mostly cause of her being rich or existing.Resetera are loving it!
