Disclaimer: I've never read any of the books, just watched through the movies with my girlfriend, so maybe this is explained.

So the sword of Gryffindor absorbs anything that will strengthen it, right? Like that snake venom?

And the Horcruxes housed Voldemort's soul?

So when they used the sword to kill that snake Horcrux, the sword would have absorbed Voldemort's soul, itself becoming a Horcrux, right?

I tried asking my girlfriend about this but she didn't seem to get what I was saying.

It only accepts that which strengthens it, and I guess the logic is that evil stuff wouldn't strengthen it (at least, not as a sword for "good").

edit: note how it was also the only artifact of the original four that wasn't turned into a horcrux. I forget why, but I'm assuming it had something to do with it being too good for Voldemort to corrupt.

Yeah, that's basically it. Also, if the sword were to have absorbed Voldemort's soul, it wouldn't exactly have made the sword any stronger, right? I guess it depends on how you define stronger.

the sword is only for true gryffindors so voldemort wouldn't have been able to get it to hide it somewhere, it would have flown away to retreat back into the sorting hat

This or any other amount of silly explanations is enough to get rid of this plot hole.

There are plenty of other plot holes available if you want to analyze Harry Potter logic, which obviously doesn't hold up to too much scrutiny. I prefer to just ignore that stuff and appreciate the story for what it is.

I am rereading all the books now, I love them.

Not necessarily that. Basilisk venom was supposedly very potent with one anti venom. A sword with very powerful venom with no real cure would certainly make it a stronger sword

Not really, it just has the power to destroy the horcrux, I don't recall it being able to absorb anything.

Or else, it would have stored the soul of that basilisk that Harry battled in Chamber of Secrets.

It did absorb the Basilisk venom. That's why it can destroy the horcrux.

Need to rewatch and reread the series it is!

It did absorb the Basilisk venom. That's why it can destroy the horcrux.

Now on whether that conflicts with absorbing the soul; I'd imagine the venom is a neutral tool that can be used for good and evil (since obviously destroying horcruxes is good), where the horcrux itself is a creation of pure evil and the sword would reject that.

1. Once the item housing the horcrux is destroyed, that part of Voldy's soul is also destroyed, leaving nothing for the sword to absorb.

2. That's assuming that the sword would even want to absorb part of Voldy's soul in the first place. It probably wouldn't imbue the sword with any extra qualities that would make it stronger, anway.

I thought it was forged by dwarves or some short fantasy creature, so it had some magical properties. The vemon you're thinking of was from the fang of the Basilisk, which also can destroy Horcruxes. Either that or my memory is off.

This is what I think. Plus, don't you have to do a spell to transfer part of the soul into a Horcrux? Or even a ritual, it's not just like an instant transfer, some thought has to go into it.

Are these movies entertaining? I mean as in really worth a watch? I have seen bits and pieces, but I'm wondering if I should buy them. Wouldn't want to spend that money and regret it though.

The last ones are way more fun. They're ok to watch on a lazy sunday, don't expect too much.

They're a fun fantasy series. Not as action packed as say Lord of the Rings, but it's a really neat world Rowling created. You can find the blu-ray set with all 8 films for $60 these days and that's very worth it I think.
