Question about PC games on PSP

I noticed that there is kind of a strange mixture of (non emulator) homebrew games, namely Doom, Beats of Rage, Rick dangerous.

1. What is the reason for these games being converted to PSP (are they all open source or stuff?)

2. How legal are these?

3. Does anybody know which games we will probably see in the future (any chances for real Duke Nukem, Dark Forces, Quake, Lucasarts adventures etc.?)

4. Is a PC emulator possible on PSP? The PSP probably is powerful enough to run most of the older games, but how would it work? Could it use the VESA standard or stuff?)

Thanks

Doom is open source, I think. Don't know about the others.

Doom should be 100% legal provided you either a) use the WAD file from the shareware version or b) own the full game and use the WAD from that, I would expect.

I think Quake's been open sourced too, hasn't it? However, since it's "true 3D" I doubt we'd see a port of it until the PSP's 3d functionality is better understood.

I don't think it's very likely. Also, rather than a full PC emulator, it'd probably be a better idea to port something like DOSbox, which emulates DOS rather than emulating the whole PC.

Thanks.

That DosBox stuff sounds interesting, shouldnt be hard to do (if someone is, unlike me, a good programmer).

Standard VGA would at least give us all those 320x200x256 color games, which would be a great start.

Yep, I think Doom is opensource: they ported it to Xbox too, it's been one of the first homebrew games released on Xbox.

About other games, as long as the source is available, I think they cold be ported to PSP too. For example, about LucasArts adventures, on Xbox you can play every SCUMM-based adventure thanks to the porting of the SCUMM Player. I think it could be ported to PSP too, if someone bothers to do it.

Yep, I totally forgot that all the LucasArts Adventures used this SCUMM thingy. That would a nice task for someone with too much time on his hands :-)

Working on it right now.

You are my hero :)

Still have my Indiana Jones and Monkey Island collections waiting to be revisited. Would be like Doom, just the engine on PSP and some "WAD" kind of file I could just copy from the PC games?
