i recently applied online for a job at Best Buy because they are opening one in Hawaii (finally). I got a call the next day asking to come in for an interview. So i set up an appointment for tomorrow. The thing im worried about is when i was filling out the online app there was a mention of a drug test. i was wondering if they give the drug test right away after the first interview or do they give it if i get the job later on? if i had to take one tomororw im not sure how great my chances of passing are.

I can't speak for BB, but typically they are the last thing done. They interview you, background check, like what they see, then get you scheduled for a drug test during the next week or what have you. Some companies have physicals done at the same time, but that is typically only with fortune 500 companies.

Once you pass the interview, you're required to take a drug test within about three days or so; I think it's actually less than that, but bottom line being the time frame is small.

I can't believe you have to go through a drug test and background check for RETAIL jobs

Thank god we don't do that in Canada (As far as I know)

I seem to remember having about a week. In fact, I think I had already worked a day (or maybe it was the orientation/training day) before I got my drug test in.

That was about 3 years ago or so, though, so my memory might be a bit fuzzy.

in all the retail jobs i've worked (ok it was only like 3) the interview/hiring/drug test all happened on the same day, so you better pack that Whizzinator.

It depends on the job. Of the part times jobs I've had or applied for, it seems mostly electronic chains that do it. Best Buy, Circuit City, and Frys Electronics all do it; but clothing stores such as The Gap did not.

Yeah we don't, I would pass it though, but that's besides the point. Drug testing for a retail job is pretty stupid.
