Question on GTA San Andreas (playing on 360)

So I have had my gaming time taken over by this game again, and it runs pretty well and looks good on the 360.

I'm at the point where the gang turf wars start up, and I remember from playing it on the PS2 that you could recruit some of your green shirt buddies to hop in a car and go do drive bys.

Is there a certain story mission that you have to complete to make this available in the game (like the girlfriend side stuff)? Anyone know how this was done on the xbox version of the game? I have gotten a message saying I can operate a gang of 4 guys already, but I have no idea how to get this stuff to work.

Sorry for posting this type of question on this board, but i already tried looking at other obvious places like gamefaqs....

Thanks,

Lock on to a potential recruit and press up on the d-pad.

Oh, and just so you know.. once they're recruited you can give them "wait" and "follow/catch up" commads using the d-pad as well. Up for follow, down for wait.

you definitely can in the xbox version, don't you have to target them and press "up" or something to recruit them? It's been so long that I've forgotten - regardless, I think it's the same process as in the PS2 version.

The more turf you win the bigger the gangs you can roll with (The max being 7). Theres 54 Turf sections all together. Yeah, and its pressing the up button

NICE! I didn't realize I had to target them first before pressing up. Thanks so much guys.

How the hell do you roll with more then 3 guys in a car? Does a 2nd car follow you or something, or is it just on foot you can get 7 guys?

I think you have to pick up a bigger ride. Like a van, I think you can even steal a bus (on of thos coach buses) and take them along with you.

I'm pretty sure you still only have a 3 person max per vehicle even if you have a bus/van etc. Sooo...

Right, you can't have more than 3 in a vehicle. You can recruit a bunch of them and have the excess run behind you though heh.

Maybe in the next one you can load 'em up in a bus or something... Or Rockstar will do the proper thing and give them the ability to follow you in a car of their own.

those homies wont do you any good though. They cant hit an elephant if it was 3 feet away.
In fairness, once and a while one of your green-suited morons will help you out by accidentally stepping in front of a bullet aimed at you. More often they'll be stepping in front of your bullets, but what can you do?

On the plus side, having them in your car all leaning out of windows to spray at random competing gang members at least *looks* impressive.

Yeah. What I did was go solo. Grab a Vest, a Mini-Sub and try to get your hands on a AK. Later on in the game, get the M4. Try to build your skill up to Hitman (which isn't to hard if you kill alot with a certain gun) and your good to go.

You just have to learn when to take on the group and when to reposition yourself.

This remembering made me sad, my copy of GTA:SA won't play in my PS2 since I lent it to some friends (who kept it for like 9 months). :(

Would buying a new copy work? My copy doesn't look terribly scratched, and yet it won't work in either PS2 I have easy access to. I would l-o-v-e to play through that game again, the section where CJ wakes up in
the badlands
was so much fun.
