Question regarding Xbox 360's "new" backwards compatability...

Shit. The only thing that could get any worse in regards to X360 BC at this point is if MS charges for it somehow.
Goddammit, shut up! They read these threads!

He's just kidding, J. Put down the phone and get back in bed, you need to rest up.

Somehow through some piece of the $100 price tag for the 2.5 SATA drive.. I think they are....

What kind of deal could MS have possibly made with nVidia awhile back that they're still trying to cobble together a respectable BC package for the 360? I remain a proponent of BC but if the best they can manage is half measures like this, maybe it'd be better if they just bit the bullet and stuck to their initial instinct to skip BC and keep talking it up as unimportant.

if you buy an xbox 360, and still have an xbox1, you may still want to play some of the xbox games that come out after you bought the 360. eg I want to play Black from criterion, and Blazing Angels.

But you may not want to have both set up and active. I know I'll keep my xbox1 for XBMC, but even so I would prefer the convenience of just using the 360 for all my xbox games.

I would like to hear what those obviously vocals anti-microsoft people are (or rather were) looking forward to replaying thanks to BC on their now-compromised xbox360 purchase?

Well?

it doesnt have to be games they "replay" its games you can play for the first time that maybe you missed cause your xbox has been broken for the past 2 years and when you finally got a new one the drive didnt work so you cant really play games with it.

I still play Spider-Man 2 to this day. I pop it in, swing around town with my maxed out Spidey for a half hour or so - then put it away.

Well, I'm not planning on getting an X360 anymore unless MS manages to fix a lot of this stuff by launch.

But of my 48 Xbox1 games, the ones that matter most to me are SF Anniversary Collection (I play third strike for an hour or two every day), Metal Slug 3, Panzer Dragoon Orta, OutRun 2, and Guilty Gear XX Reload, and either Ninja Gaiden or Ninja Gaiden Black.

Of course, I'd love it if all games work but I guess that's really not going to happen. But these games get at least weekly play for a few hours and in SF3 and Metal Slug 3's case, get daily play almost without exception.

You do realize what you are actually doing is putting down the Xbox 1 library don't you?

I don't find the Xbox 1 library that bad except for few exclusives that don't really appeal to me. But what I do have a problem with is the fact ALOT, as in all, Multi-platform games I got for the Xbox instead of PS2 or Gamecube purely on graphics reasons. It pisses me off a tad that if i would have gotten them for PS2 or GCN I could have been more assured to play them on a PS3 or Revolution where as now its like shooting craps with them on Xbox 360. As of now I will no longer do that, i'm getting Xmen Legends 2 for the PS2 come this holiday and Ultimate Spiderman on the Gamecube so I can be sure I can play them later. I mean who really intends our wants to keep their big black and green box around once you get a 360. I'd ather trade it in towards a 360 and keep only one machine that can play everything.

I missed the other related thread about this but anyways....all I've got to add is "Good fucking job, Microsoft!"

Why even bother? It's more hassle than it's worth.

The main reason for putting down $400 on a new console should be the new games.

If BC can change your purchase one way or the other than you should just wait till the first price drop or until a system seller type game is released.

No backwards compatability for you!

Basically, IMO, it's not a feature.

Until we see a concrete game list (or better yet, some sort of logic that can let us determine with relative ease which games will work and which won't), I consider it a non-feature as well.

The whole thing just seems to be another big misleading falsehood on the part of Microsoft. It'd make sense to pump people's expectations up for a feature that'll probably only really shoddily work if it was years away, but people are going to be booting up their 360s in just two months, and if BC is anything like we've been hearing about... consumers will probably just think their 360 is broken and try to return it before finding out the truth.

Wait, what? The 360's coming out in October? I thought the latest rumor has it out in December. But anyway, I'm thinking MS won't even mention BC as a "feature" perse but more something extra that certain consumers might be able to utilize under certain criteria. Odds are BC will not be a long term feature for the 360 but was more intended as an initial "STFU" to the lack-of-BC-complainers.
