SWEDISH PERFECTION
So I finished watching this fascinating series just a while ago, and it was great as long as I managed to keep up with what was happening. Basically, it felt like the whole story suddenly came crashing towards me at light speed the 3-4 last episodes.

There are some things I don't understand...

The old lady digging around in the trash. What was the purpose of her being in the show?

Also, what was that about Maniwa, the young detective, suddenly turning into an old man? What was the purpose of that? And what was the point of him writing all those symbols on the ground? Was it just to show that he had gone nuts?

And those dolls helping Maniwa. Was he just generally going insane, or what? And the guy making the dolls...it's interesting that he had been making dolls looking just like the people who had been attacked during the series. I don't understand what the point with that would be though.

1) the lady was the one that told the detectives that the doll designer was ALONE and that she hit herself. It proved that there was NO shounen bat. It proved that it was her imagination.

2) I'm guessing yeah he went nuts. Part of Paranoia Agent is the idea that the dream world and the real world have connecting points like the doll designer (don't remember her name >__<) or the old man who predicted things. I'm guessing maniwa got infected or something. :p

3) I have no idea about the dolls. I think he was going insane and that's just the way of the anime director showing us maniwa's progress through his own mind. As for the dolls looking like the victims, it could be just an allusion to how everything is connected. Those characters all had similar aspects that made them victims and all being dolls physically in the same place somehow alludes to that... I don't. >__<

Yeah, I understand what the old lady did in the series, but I thought her appearance had some kind of deeper, symbolic meaning as well. I mean, she's in the opening...just like the old man...which I never understood the real point with either. Maybe I'm looking too hard? A lot of imaginary scenes in the series seem to be best left observed rather than explained, I guess. :p
