Quick PSP Question

Has it been confirmed that the US model will be play Japanese software? I know all the portables have been region free up to this point, but I don't take anything for granted with Sony.

Also, does anyone know WHY portables are region free? It seems odd that home systems would be and their miniature versions wouldn't.

I'd assume since people are more apt to travel with portables, and buy games in different regions.

I was always under the impression that region lockout was purely based on economic regions. When I was talking to some Nintendo reps, they looked at me almost like a pirate when I told them I import games. For example, NOA makes no money when I import DS games. But Nintendo is still making money.

I mean people can travel with portable DVD players, yet they're fucked if they wanna buy DVD's in other regions.

I hope they're region free, but I'm still not confident that they will be, even though they've said so. Mainly because of the region 2 symbol that's been showing up on the back of the game cases.

Get a DVD player that isn't region encoded. My portable DVD player is region free.

Again, Sony has said on more then one occasion that the PSP hardware is not region encoded and that software will not be, but movies will most likely be.

Most DVDs are played on regular players, probably a very small amount of them are played on portables. Also becuase of multiple audio tracks and subtitles on DVDs there is almost no reason to buy a movie from your region if they weren't region locked.

PSP/DS games can only be played on a system that is portable.

As far as that rep, well she has to support NOA, she's not gonna act happy and encourage you to import games.
