I managed to track down a mint copy of Einhander , but I don't remember if the manual was in color. Would any Einhander owner be kind enough to verify that the manual is indeed black and white, and not color.

I have both. Import is in color and NTSC b&w.

This reminds me that during my time i owned 3 copies of Einhander (jap.) and sold them all. Gotta buy it again sometime soon. =)
