RAGE: The Scorchers DLC arrives next week

I liked rage but never got around to finish it. DLC this late? Rage 2 anyone?

Pretty sure id Software has said they're not done with RAGE. Right now though, it's all about Doom4

If anything, I have the absolute utmost respect for them BECAUSE they released DLC this late. They easily could have cut their losses and moved on. No, they had some people STILL spend time/money and put something out.

And it's a cheap DLC. The gunplay is so good in that game.

Looking forward to:

+ 60 fps
+ Glorious sound design
+ Meaty weapons
+ tight controls
+ Beatiful and seriously underrated art direction
+ Just more of an id Software game

(^___^)

Seriously, RAGE's last level can't undo the 20 hours of spectacular that came before it

20 hours ?

It takes you 4 hours to install a disk on 360 ?

Agreed on all points. I enjoyed the game thoroughly. Definitely one of the best first-person shooters of this generation, in my opinion. The more RAGE we get, the merrier!

hmm, i might bite. certainly not expensive for DLC, and i liked most of Rage. some missions were quite fun thanks to the great gunplay and high framerate. i could use some more of that.

Mmm that time of the year to compare our rage screenshots

What in the world happened to those dlc screenshots? Looks like some funky photoshop filter applied to them

Rage MOD TOOLS Comment:
https://twitter.com/ID_AA_Carmack/status/279996359518588928

Some of those high-texture guys should also realize that their internal build is around ~150 GB or even more, because they were testing/developing it on a server farm with 192GB RAM and other bits I heard from the Keynote that lead me to this assumption.

But carmack said later in a very vague twitter post that those higher textured "don't actually have more detail" and I can't wrap my head around what he exactly meant since how on earth can't those files have better detail, and he defended it with the fact that it won't look differently from afar, only from close, and I think he's right about that when the player is focused on the gameplay and not on the screenshots, oh well.

RAGE has remained installed since release (except for a reinstall after a HDD died), awaiting an update.

Very happy to see the DLC finally come out, AND look so interesting :D

Though my RAM has halved since release, so hopefully it'll run alright with 2GB..

Yeah it will.

Mod tools wont. You'll not be going well with even 4 or 6GB RAM with pagefile on there.

For mod tools you guys should get 16GB at least and disable Pagefile, not sure how assets will be modded since they have ~150GB dataset and they hinted they won't be releasing that, so they're probably baking down all of the source material for mod tools, because the actual game files are packed in files not sure how it'll work ... definitely not how previous generation engines.

So mod tools have actually been confirmed to still be coming? Also I cant tell from these screenshots, but is there is a option in the pc config so textures dont look like trash when you start to get closer?

RAGE, more than any other game I've played, looks 5x more impressive in motion so screenshots don't do it justice. It's hard to describe

Yep, it gets way too much flak for not being good at screenshots. In motion its one of the best looking games this gen, probably top 5.

They have never been denied.

It's not a LOD issue; that's how the textures are. Carmack's desire for cross-platform parity, which included the PC (an approach he later lamented), meant the textures had to be created with the platform with the least available space in mind -- the X360 and three DVDs (~21GB).

Finally got round to playing some RAGE, and yeah it looks pretty amazing in motion. The shooting is also really satisfying.

given the size of this DLC on PC, I'm hoping to see some sharper texturing in the new areas. I did really like how the game looked overall though.

The PC version of Rage was already HUGE, though. Increasing texture resolution across the board would have resulted in a game well offer 50gb I'm sure and, out of the gate, the PC version had serious issues with data streaming.

It's not as if the textures in Rage worked like they do in other games.

Agreed completely. I've never had a lackluster ending ruin everything awesome that came before it.

I wouldn't hold your breath. :(

Correct but irrelevant. Given the game lacks deathmatch, I'd rather id dropped MP altogether and used that extra space (Edit: approximately 6.8GB) to improve things in the SP that little bit more.

It still would have been huge and it very likely would have had more severe performance issues.

It still would have been huge

You say this like I'm arguing otherwise.

and it very likely would have had more severe performance issues.

Hard to be sure, really. I can only speak for myself, but I stopped having issues with Rage after a little bit of config tweaking and upgrading to nvidia's beta drivers intended for the BF3 beta. Of course, others had and still do have issues with the game, but my point is that the texture streaming problem isn't endemic to the engine itself and more a peculiar bug that affects some hardware configurations.

Sounds good. This will give me an incentive to go back and finish the game. It fell into my usual black hole-backlog.

I started a second playthrough with a mate but he eventually grew bored of the game. With the DLC around the corner, though, I may as well finish what we started.

Is Ultra Nightmare going to be a difficulty level that can be used for the entire game or just the DLC?

I've got zero qualms starting a fresh game on Ultra Nightmare. Zero. Qualms.

The experience of actually playing Rage is special, IMO, due to the solid framerate combined with the extremely organic, believable world. It creates a sense of place and time like few games do - Dark Souls would be another game that does the same things (though not framerate on consoles of course lol): it looks underwhelming in screen shots, but experience it in motion and it goes to a different level.

It kind of sounds like the DLC slots into the regular campaign.

When the textures aren't being viewed from 2 feet away, the game is pretty gorgeous. Megatextures were designed to enhance the scene as a whole, and they do just that. Compared to something like Skyrim, RAGE often looks like playable concept art.

Downloaaaading. Anyone able to say yet whether or not it's a quest line that appears in the world, or a separate thing in the menu? Will be awhile before I play if it's the first :'( need to finish far cry before a can get through Rage again.

I beat this earlier this year but I'll give it another go later. I can't seem to find it on steam though. Anyone have a direct link to the DLC? Thanks

Really enjoyed my time with the game, great gunplay, ennemy behavior and I dug the racing so I'm down for this DLC. Did a bit of googling but didn't found any impressions/reviews, anyone know if there are any available ?

I'm installing the first disc (360), then I'll purchase the DLC, I hope it's good, although 4.99 makes me think it won't be all that great.
