No soap at all? I mean, did he just do this for showering and use soap/liquid to wash his hands when cooking and other stuff?

lol

I've heard that the hair accumulates a lot of chemicals throughout the day and that it's imperative to wash it. There was an article in Muscle and Fitness about this a few years back claiming that the buildup of chemicals in your hair can lead to earlier death. I'd have to rustle through some old issues to find it. Keep in mind, most of us live in highly polluted cities where this could be cause for concern.

i feel completely uncomfortable if i dont use soap during showers.

however, i only shampoo about once a week. i have long, silky straight hair and i hate how it gets so dry and lifeless when i shampoo. looks and feels horrible

Use conditioner?

While I may be able to get away with the water-only showering I absolutely have to wash my hair with shampoo. It's oily as fuck otherwise.

I tried this a few times when rushing through showers but I seriously noticed a worse result.
Weren't soaps/shampoos invented for a reason?

"Not washing hair can lead to death"

Even if true, it just sounds hilarious.

You could argue they were invented because European nations didn't have enough access to water in order to take daily baths. I don't recall places like the Roman Empire using Soap for baths, but they did take pride in daily baths. The Romans did use Soap to wash clothing though. Maybe at one point someone figured "Soap Cleans Cloths -> Soap Cleans Skin!", and it stuck.

Could also be used to compensate for the lack of hot water in many places.

lol. But one thing shampoo does do is cleanse environmental pollutants, which are plentiful in our day.

One day without shampoo and my hair becomes greasy, curly and freezy as hell. No amount of brushing will make it resemble a hairstyle. Maybe if I ever get 2 months off in my life again ill get it cut real short and not shampoo and see how it grows.

This. How is this guy's hair to greasy as fuck.

Guy has to have an awesome lifestyle if he can go a year without getting dirty doing everything.

Alright guys I'm gonna try this. School is out until August so I have some flexibility to experiment. I'm going to try the no poo/no soap. Just rinse with water. I'm still looking into conditioner because I'm seeing that might be okay to use.

The guy said about 2 weeks without washing his hair the oil dried up. Maybe the scalp produces more oil to compensate for the shampoo drying it out.

Same here. I don't know if i'd want to go without shampoo though but this seems interesting none the less. I wouldn't do this if I worked a dirty job though like construction, I definitely know that soap helps get that kind of stuff off you and if you only use water it doesn't do enough.

Would still use soap for washing hands though that's a no brainer. I don't know how my hair would be without shampoo though, I don't remember a time not using shampoo (even when I cut my hair really short I still shampooed every day.)

I think it's ludicrous for him to assume that the body is universally prepared for all threats. I'd like to hear what a doctor has to say about this.

I read a claim that shampoo may actually cause your hair to produce oil at a higher rate, therefore making you dependent on it. If you back off gradually you should be ok.

Correct answer, Shampoo strips your hair of all the oils and conditioner is meant to replace them.

When I had longer hair I went a few weeks without using anything but water and I found that it got greasier less rapidly.

i think i can try this....i have pretty oily hair though and i do get really sweaty at work sometimes so i guess i'm a little "worried" about not putting soap/shampoo into my hair.
I'm the same. If you try it bump this thread so we can see results.

The big key seems to be you have to go all the way, and have to give your body time. Missing a couple of days without soap or shampoo I assume puts you in no mans land. The dude acted like it took a month or so to basically get his body back to the natural state.

Problem is wtf do you do in the in between time. I like others get greasy hair if I miss shampoo for a day, but I assume the whole deal is that goes away once your body readjusts PH levels and shit.

IDK... Sounds crazy and semi logical all at the same time. Problem is trying out would suck because you'd probably look or smell like ass in the month it took to balance yourself out.

He didn't say it's prepared for all threats, but the body can surely handle day to day maintenance like greasy hair.

People lived for a hell of a long time without anything like this stuff. They definitely weren't totally clean but I'd bet they were much cleaner than people would guess.

And I can't say 100% for sure, but the idea that not washing your hair could kill you is almost certainly horseshit.

But the claim here is not that they were getting by, but that they were doing better than they were before the invention of shampoo. That's an extraordinary claim requiring extraodinary evidence.

What about his ass and balls?
Just running water according to him.

From the comments, where he replies:

3- I use deodorant on occasion but only because I'm paranoid. People comment that they notice the smell of the deodorant, they don't notice anything when I don't use it.

How does he clean his hands after a shit?

He still uses deodorant, even though that fucks with you as well? It's putting metal in your arm pits.

He washes his hand with soap after going to the bathroom and if he's going to prepare food.

My soap is decent enough. I've no issues with soap. Never on the face though. What I do seem to have issues with is Shampoo. I have long hair though, I only washed it yesterday and the scalp is pissing me off.

Yeah I read a health book a whlie back that was adamant about not using any chemicals on your skin. I didn't take that advice though.

I think part of it is your diet, that contributes a lot to how you smell. So depending on what you eat, you can probably sweat a lot and the moisture coming from your body won't really smell.

That's anti-perspirant. Deodorant does not contain zin/aluminium.

This is true, I once had curry two days in a row. For some fucking reason I swear my arm pits smelt of curry. it was disgusting.

:lol OK, whatever. He's the only man on the planet without BO. What the fuck ever. :lol

EDIT: I guess it could work if he showered at least once a day and didn't do any sort of physical activity.

My roommate did the same thing, he'd rinse off every couple of days in the shower, but didn't use anything. My side of the room smelled worse than his.

No shampoo is going to lead to greasier hair. Not sure if that's very appealing.

Not true. Many girls with long hair have long sworn off of the stuff (some don't even use water for several days). It may be greasier at the start, but your body (re?)learns to regulate itself.

I don't use shampoo and haven't for at least 2 years. When my hair is long (like now), it's a little harder to deal with. I really should carry a comb. But, with short hair it's a godsend. Makes your hair far more manageable without any smelly product. Just "scrub" your hair with water. If I swim in a pool, I have to use shampoo just to get the chlorine/kid piss out.

I might try this "no soap" thing, too. I already use one of those Crystal rocks for deodorant.

Depends on the type of hair and skin. Some people's hair and skin is dry and needs more that just natural moisture.

I will give it a go later on. I can live without soaping but I don't think I'll be able to survive without using shampoo. Will be a good experiment. This is a thousand times better than not bathing at all, which is something I wouldn't try.

I have a shower daily, in the summer twice a day if necessary. I don't use shampoo and soap everytime though, and to my experience, it's not bad at all.

Edit: My hair is cut short.

i do. but i hate the way my hair feels after. it becomes a lifeless mass of black whereas 2-3 days later with some more moisture, it gets nice and wavy and bouncy. if i have an event planned, i make sure i shampoo n shit 2-3 days ahead of time so when the day comes, my hair looks perfect.
