Rare interview on Perfect Dark Zero

We have really striven hard for replay-ability. We wanted to give players a compelling reason to play story mode again and again. Multiple ways to achieve goals on the levels enhances this. We're not going to say how yet, but Xbox Live™ plays a big part.

I wonder what this means.

that sounds interesting. I wonder if it's streaming enemies or what? Using online to enhance single player gameplay is something that i've been digging ever since i heard about spore. I hope a lot of next gen games find ways to use it. Despite the lackluster screenshots, i'm starting to get interested in this game.

It'd be sweet if you could play as the bad guy over Live, like the original PD for the n64. It'd be a pretty tough challenge for the design team to make it fun for everyone, but if they got it working, it'd be pretty friggin sweet.

The game sounds like it's going to be so much fun. There's a lot of cool stuff in the gameplay I can't wait to get my hands on.

"The difficulty levels are Agent, Secret Agent, and Perfect Agent. The player has more objectives on the harder difficulty settings. These aren't just "do an extra thing"; they make sections play totally differently. Someone going from Agent (easy) onto Secret Agent (medium) difficulty will get to an area and find that they cannot play that section the same way. They need to find a different solution to deal with the problems that are there.
"

This was one of my favorite things about Goldeneye. At that time I beat the game on Easy or Normal I forget, only to go back and find out the other levels gave you a whole new set of objectives. Made me play the whole game all over again. Great replay value in the singleplayer. Multiplayer, of coures, doesn't even need to be mentioned.

I am really looking forward to this game.....Wallace Guyford and all....

Don't worry about the early shots. Just had a little fun because of how hideos it looked. RARE will come through graphically and the gameplay sounds amazing!

Only if they have until 2007 or later to tear it down and rebuild it again from scratch. This is Rare we are talking about after all...

Great. That means you'll make micropayments towards story levels.

Fucking hell, now you'll have to make additional payments to play ANY game in its complete form. >_> Thank you microsoft.

Ok Mods, why don't you show you halfway serious about this forum. I know some of you might think this guy is funny, but he has posted nothing but trolling drivel since he has been back. But whatever i'm drunk and off to sleep...

I'm wondering if PD0 will implement what has been rumored to happen in Halo/Halo 2 online and never materialzed.

One time, Bungie talked about an online mode where the main character takes control of the Master Chief, and the other people online take the place of regular covenant enemies. It plays out like single player but human opponents control covenant players. If the covenant player gets wiped out by the master chief he/she warps into another covenant body nearby and continues to battle. It is an interest premise. Not sure how well it would be in execution.

That's not exactly what they said. I believe what you are think of is in the original EGM cover story on Halo 2. From page 232:

Halo 2 will feature online battles between Master Chief and characters on one side and Covenant Elite soldiers on the other. The plan is for online to support at least 12 to 16 players. It'll be nothing less than the total online war Bungie originally envisioned. "The thing we're excited about bringing to XBox Live is re-creating Halo's single-player experience - with all the weapons vehicles and explosions - among a bunch of player on the internet."

...

They know they want to enhance the cooperative mode of the main campaign game, but they probably won't make it playable over the 'Net ("That's really hard to do," Jones says).

I too imagined a different online game than we got based off this quote - I was expecting more of a campaign-style match with multiple objectives, not just Halo 1 MP online with tweaks. It's still great, but could be so much more.

jesus christ that guy is a fucking tool

Dear Santa,

I've been a good little boy all year, so when you come down my chimney on December 25th, please bring me: 1 Xbox 360 console from Microsoft, 1 extra 360 control pad, 1 copy of Perfect Dark Zero, 1 copy of Kameo: Elements Of Power, and one copy of Dead Or Alive 4. In return you can have a cookie!

Yours Sincerely,

Kid Chameleon

Did DDF reappear at the same moment that Drinky vanished?

Could be...there is NO WAY that was the real DDF......he lacked any sense of funny.

Hell that photoshop was way generic.

So sweet. Reading that brought back a flood of memories, I loved the way PD gave you the option to do objectives different ways and I'm glad they are continuing with that.

Has there been any word on if they are keeping the earn a cheat by beating levels in a set time?

Does anyone know the real deal as far as the launch date goes?

I mean I thought I remember them saying it was a deffinite for launch, and only after the MTV reactions, did they start saying it will be out when it's ready.

God I hope it makes launch. It's the only game I REALLY want to get my hands on. The others are nice sure, and Ghost Recon will make a nice alternative if this doesn't make it, but still, I just have such hopes for it. If they screw the gameplay up, I'm going to be seriously dissapointed.

I think the passage of time has warped all of your minds. DDF was rarely ever funny before. This is exactly as I remember him.

If that wasn't him, then whoever was impersonating him did a good job. That was exactly how he used to act, and I'm glad I wasn't one of only a handful of people to notice how unfunny he really is this time around.
