Raspberry Pi Gaming thread - Cheap emulation and gaming projects

That worked! (After I upgrade my SD card and reloaded the image onto it).

One additional problem: It's working great now, with one exception: 6-button games like Street Fighter 2 don't recognize the 5th and 6th buttons (M and H Kick). I've tested my IPAC with the downloadable program from Ultimarc and everything seems to be wired correctly. But, for the life of me, I can't figure out where to fix this within RetroPie. I'm using the latest version.

Any help?

I've just worked out how to use clrmamepro to properly organise ROMs and such. Pretty pleased with myself, I suspect Retropie is about to get a whole lot more useable.

Which version of Mame and romset did you go with ? I'm in two minds whether to go with the older more compatible version or just go for the most recent ? any thoughts ?

Just spent a bunch of money on arcade control bits. Guess now I have to build this arcade cabinet or that money will go to waste.

Shouldn't be too bad, combined with the bits and bobs I already have lying around the house the only thing I'm missing now to complete the project is the cabinet itself. Still trying to weigh up the options on that. Unfortunately there are no local kit suppliers (and importing would cost more than the kit itself) so that means I'll either have to cut one up myself or visit a professional workshop to get it CNC cut. Decisions, decisions.

Apologies if this has been posted already, but here's a cheap, if not interesting project for a Pi-based gaming table, using an IKEA Lack table as the basis.

I came across a fairly recent X-Arcade tank stick dual stick setup with trackball setup (dual USB connectors) for retro gaming. I was thinking of pairing it with a new Raspberry Pi 3 for retro gaming. Is anyone using this stick with RetroPi? Any issues with it?

I was also wondering if there were any pre-configured SD card images. Clearly not with ROMs. But a RetroPi setup with all emulators installed and controls configured for the tankstick. Is this something that exists, or would I have to piece it together?

Is there any easy way to hook the output in to a CRT TV or an arcade monitor? To get more of the real experience.

You can, it all depends on how authentic you want the expereince to be, imho outputting to a simple lcd with scanlines is a hundred times easier and will give up 90% of the effect.

Just buy some MDF or decent plywood, grab a plan from here http://jakobud.com/, print 1:1 copy to wood, cut out with jigsaw, sand pieces, screw together, its really easy with a bit of patience ... and the results can be as good as a real cabinet

IS there a trick to getting GBA emulation to work?

It's the only console I can't seem to get up and running.

I've set it up like any other console in Emulation Station

For the RetroPi update, will I have to reload the image over to the SD card again? I don't have that image anymore and creating it with a Mac is a right pain! Hoping the update script is literally that, just updates what is there now with no more work required.

Can someone please link me to an idiots guide to getting the sfc30 working with retropie via Bluetooth?

Tried this one but can't get the solid blue light.

Help!

Yeah but I don't know if I can trust myself with a jigsaw. :P

Anyway, those plans all look like full sized cabinets, I'm looking to build a Bartop. Found some plans here that I'm planing to modify.

I have a .151 entire (non-CHD) set I'm building older sets from, mostly for FBA.

Yes just run the script, additionally if you have a Mac you can use PiBaker if you ever want to backup your SD card.

What I typically do is backup the full SD Card when everything is working, roms, art, controllers etc. I will then run the setup script to make changes, knowing I have a backup in case all goes wrong.

I seem to be missing something in how you save games with retroarch.

I started an SNES game, saved, and then after the save was complete I quit by pulling the plug on the raspberry pi. Do you have to do something in the menu to save games properly?

some settings do not save correctly unless you close down from the main menu option to power down/off, I keep forgetting about that myself and need to break the habit of just yanking the usb to turn off.

Any reason why my Genesis emulator would suddenly not respond to any controller inputs?

I'm bordering on just wiping the whole thing and starting again...

There was also a problem (in an earlier version) where I had to set the permissions of the folder, so it could write to it... I think there's a menu option in RetroPie-Setup to do this now.

I'm having an issue with my xbox 360 controller. It works fine most of the time, but when I boot a game it will become unresponsive for a while, and it does not appear to be the same amount of time each time. I should be able to press a button and skip some of the intro scenes (like, say, the backstory intro in LttP, before you get into the menu). I will often have to wait much longer than I should before I get a response.

Has anyone heard of a similar issue and how to solve it?

edit: half-solved, I guess. If I open the retroarch menu when prompted on booting and then close it, the controller seems to stay responsive.

Well I think I figured out my issue with configuring my X-Arcade sticks and RetroPie and getting emulators up and running. But I can't seem to solve the issue of exiting an emulator back to emulation station from the X-arcade stick. I have tried editing the config files for allowing hotkeys but its still not working.

Ideally I could press the Player1 start button and the Coin button at the same time to break out of the emulator and go back to emulation station to try another game.

Any thoughts?

If you're using MAME, I was able to come up with a configuration that worked for me using the in-emulator menu that comes up when you hit Tab. If I remember correctly I did P1 start + coin, as you're suggesting.

Exactly what I am talking about and yes I was thinking P1 start + coin as well. I wasnt just looking to do that for all emulators, not just MAME. Is this emulator specific?

Hi gents,

I did try the n64 emulator at default settings...and it runs like absolute garbage so far! :lol

Any helpful tutorial/settings I could use? I saw videos of games running way better than what I experienced...

Thanks in advance! :)

Which RPi ? Your mileage will vary, some games run pretty good, 3D Mario springs to mind, others are crap, some fit in the middle with occasional slowdown. I suppose it all depends on what you are willing to put up with. N64 emulation is far from perfect ...

My Raspberry Pi 3 Model B just shipped from MCM Electronics. It took about a week for it to actually ship as they were waiting on their supply chain.

They are within the US, located in Groveport, Ohio.

hm this might relate to some of my settings refusing to work at all when I change them in emulators, like render res and filters not applying.

I'll have to check out the latest update as i'm still rocking retropi from months back.

Has anyone had any issues connecting there RBPi3 with bluetooth my router shows up on the corner on raspbian with this message 'eth0 link is down'

I'd like to know about these as well. I'm looking to build a PC fightstick with room to sneak a Raspberry Pi in there.

Well, took the plunge and grabbed an arcade stick/buttons setup using one of those zero delay encoders and it worked like a charm on the pi 2.

Instantly recognized by retropi and doesn't seem to introduce any extra input lag.

Funny how 35 us magically convert to 59.99 CDN plus tax.

Hey guys, so I also did an impulse purchase and got Pi 3.

I have subscriptions from CBTNuggets and INE, I transferred some videos and tried to play via VLC that I downloaded through NOOBs OS and they were not playing correctly. I think the ones from INE may have a bit high bit rate....

Also, how do I make the SNES/Genesis Games look Retro---ey on my Plasma... is there any "Shader" how powerfull is this thing?

Can Pi 3 emulate NeoGeo AES ?

The only other game I want is Cadillac and Dinosaurs however the MAME Controlls are messed up. I have to use a keyboard.

Is there a guide? any improvements from Community in terms of Shaders and a list of best CORE/ Emulator to use per system ?

Thank you ...

I would like some input interms of getting best pictures with shaders...
