Rayman Legends on PS4 & Xbox One: Uncompressed textures, no load times

The power behind the Xbox One and the PS4 allows us to display the game’s textures without any compression on these consoles. This makes the game’s visuals even sharper than before and will allow players to see even more of the details and nuances our artists put into the textures of the game. These uncompressed textures highlight the hand-drawn style of the game’s visuals.

The enhanced power of these new consoles has also allowed us to do away with the loading times when entering or exiting a level. Jumping inside a painting will now start the level immediately. Jumping in and out of a level has never been faster and it’s a great feeling to have such a seamless experience. Navigating in the game now feels smoother and your gaming experience is never stopped by loading transitions.

UbiArt Framework was already allowing us to run the game at 60fps in 1080p on Xbox 360 and PS3, so it meant we already had more or less what you expect from a next-gen game in terms of display and fluidity. Building on that, porting the game with UbiArt Framework proved to be quite easy and the next-gen consoles allowed us to further optimize the game and make it a really amazing experience.
The PS4 also has a few nifty additions. Any insight into those?

Right away we saw how the PS4 touchpad could be a great tool to show players all the amazing details our artists have put inside the visuals and the animations of the game. That’s why we created the Camera Mode using this touchpad. By pressing the touchpad once, you freeze the game and enter Camera Mode. In this mode, by moving your fingers on the touchpad you can zoom in and out and also pan to adjust the frame. When you’re happy with your picture, you just have to press the Share button on the PS4 controller to share this picture with everyone. This mode is a great way to pause the game to look at all the amazing details the game contains and it’s also a great tool to be creative and build amazing pictures with all the elements you have in the game.

It would be really awesome if this was a PS4xVita cross buy there isn't a chance, is there?

Compressed textures is not a complaint I ever saw with the other versions. But hey, if this gets a few more people to play it, that's cool.

Physical release? In any case, I'm gonna pick it up for the PS4 eventually. Even Origins is still in my backlog, so I missed Legends on 360/PS3.

I'd say it is worth the money
Great replay value with the daily challenges

I will go digital since it is the kind of game you want to boot up at any time without having to swap the disc

Still with this? They're good with a touchscreen :)

Theyre a load of totally gimmicky arse. Rayman Jungle Run was a more enjoyable "touchscreen" experience than spinning my Vita around 360 to get some stupid wheel mechanism into the right angles.

2 player the Murphy cutting and tapping may be alright with someone just relegated to backup duties on WiiU (no you cant play as another fun platforming character girlfriend, think of this as akin to hoovering and other chores), but without that in place you scream as the now AI controller player character decides that Lum cage is just not actually close enough for them to bother to smack. RESTART STAGE. RESTART STAGE. I'LL MURDER YOU GLOBOX.

I'm currently playing the Wii u version with my kids and Murph is great for that. It lets my youngest help without getting in the way. Some of the levels are really intense!

Played this on Wii U and thought it was fantastic. I'm not sure how they could possibly make it look better than it already did on Wii U.

If they took out the loading screens how does a person earn that extra heart before a level?

Not sure why uncompressed textures is a selling point...the game already looked gorgeous on Wii U (and PS3 and 360 I'm assuming), and I never felt like the load times were an issue (but power to them if they got rid of them completely).

I guess I'm still confused as to why Ubisoft is porting this other than an easy cash grab.

Not mentioned in the OP: the Xbox One version will have time limited achievements and the PS4 version will have a camera mode that uses the touchpad:

Have it on Vita and Uplay. Can't fathom why the series isn't more successful. Anyone at Ubisoft want to achieve legendary status and PM me a code for the PS4 version ;-(

You probably won't. You also probably won't get the extra heart that sometimes drifts into the touch screen.

They like money and people with next gen consoles are starving for games.

I wish they did this with Blacklist.

Day one. I rented the PS3 version and loved it, but never completed it due to next-gen arriving. I'll buy the PS4 version.

No load times is amazing, not that they were particularly bothersome but the idea of instantly going in to a level will be great.

It under-performed on last-gen. I bet they're hoping more people will jump in and give it a try due to the drought, and hopefully that will bode well then for the future of the franchise. It's well priced too. Really can't wait, so glad they announced this port.

Not really sure what they mean by uncompressed textures. I recall an interview stating they sometimes forgot to compress the textures on Wii U and it still worked. Maybe the textures were compressed on Xbox 360 & PS3 or something. I'm pretty sure all versions were the same, even the PC version.

I'm on the fence about the removal of those "load screens", they weren't really load screens at all and even let you collect an extra heart piece.

Did not mind the Murfy levels on Wii U, in general. There was one towards the end where the touch wasn't responsive enough to keep up with the speed of the level AND account for Globox's awful AI.

My big issue with those stages is that there were too many of them. I would have been fine with one Murfy stage per world as a change-of-pace. 2, 3 was a bit much.
