Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong has just hosted the annual Asia Game Show 2005 in Hong Kong on December 17 - 19, a total of 58 PlayStation 2 games were exhibited and playable, including the PS2 version of Biohazard 4 and 20 unreleased titles such as:

* Wanda to Kyozou
* Legendz
* Nanobreaker
* Fuun Bakumatsu-Den
* Kessen III
* Devil May Cry 3
* The story of Hero Yoshitsune
* Project Altered Beast
* Death by Degrees
* Gran Turismo 4
* Biohazard 4
* Shadow of Rome
* Genji
* Tekken 5
* Metal Slug 3D
* Taiko no Tetsujin 5
* Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
* Hajime no Ippo All Stars
* Tsukiyoni Saraba

Maybe it's a mistake and there was only a video of the Cube version with the PS2 logo?

Make it stop capcom! Only 3 weeks left to GC launch. Don't announce anything more about the ps2 version during this timeframe, or you are going to fuck over the GC sales bad.

I wouldn't be surprised, rumor has it the PS2 version has been in the works awhile (and is in part the reason for the change of direction from the first GC build). Haunted Ground/Demento seems to use a similar engine too.

:lol It's almost like Capcom hates Nintendo fans now.

"Didn't buy our games, huh? Even after we put them on that sinking ship! Then, you give us a headache over about one or two of the games being made for PS2?! Well, FUCK YOU, NINTENDO FANS. Captain, accelerate development of Resident Evil 4 for PS2...and make it -- dun dun dunnn -- fun."

Yeah, but I think Capcom should atleast give the GC sales a chance before announcing too many PS2 details, but no...:(

To be fair though, the GC base has been much more receptive to Capcom products than the PS2 base comparatively. Not to mention for every GC Capcom game made, there was already 6-8 on PS2. :/

Yeah let's go nuts over an unverified rumor about a game show that noone bothered to cover.

In fact I'm really bored of the non-coverage this event and the Jump Festa had.
I want the new FF12 and KH2 trailers :D

I think everyone is making too big a deal about this. Most people aren't going to buy a GC for this game, and those that will, will anyway. I honestly don't think it's a big enough franchise to matter that much in unit sales, however the PS2 version gets announced. I'm sure it will sell well among the adults who have the GC anyway.

Yeah, I played it. It was okay. Not good, not bad, just ohhh-kay.

You have played the PS2 version of RE4?
And you think you can go away just saying it was ok :) ?
GAF wants full coverage!

God, I second that.

Exactly. It would be interesting to see which console is home to Capcom's biggest under-performers.

How have you not gotten banned yet?

We don't know yet... but if it do, bye bye GC version.

The reason I heard for the GC version not having true widescreen is because of unstable framerate issues. You have to render considerable more on the screen etc. If GC can't muster it, I doubt that the PS2 version can.

Unstable framerate issues? Where did you hear that? The game isn't all that impressive looking, yet they needed to run it in letterbox mode AND 16-bit color just to achieve a good framerate? I really wish they would have gone for 24-bit color. That would have made a big difference...

It's very impressive looking for a Gamecube game in some areas. There's so much shit going on in the videos I've watched as well...

I could see how the framerate might come down with a few more lines resolution, but in all honesty? I just think true anamorphic 16:9 isn't/wasn't a priority. I doubt the PS2 version will have it either.

Wait a sec, so RE4 runs with black bars on the top and bottom of the 4:3 screen, much like Beyond Good and Evil, right? (That's probably a video memory and fillrate saving solution). Now, why on Earth can't a game that already runs in letterboxed format be just stretched so that it fills the widescreen aspect ratio? What are they going to do on a widescreen TV? Hsve black bars at top. bottom, left and right?

I don't think the game runs in 16bit color though, it certainly didn't look like in screens released so far.

I'm scared about this since it's the first time I hear about this stuff.
So RE4 Cube runs in a letterbox format,at 30fps,with 16 bit color??? OMG OMG if true GC fill rate and bandwidth limitations have really hurt Capcom badly.
Funny because these Cube's limitations are PS2's strenghts.

I'm glad a graphics whore like you has played this game, because your voice is generally believed when it comes down to how a game looks. It's so very far from the bullshit "best looking game ever threads" everyone was wading through a few months before the demo.

Get a grip.

The story of Hero Yoshitsune and Genji

I wonder if the stories in these two games are based on the the same story...

* Hajime no Ippo All Stars

I hope this gets localized...

Geeez I wish this thread didn't excist. It's gonna go downhill from here.

Why do you even care?

You heard it here first, RE4 to be in 32bit color, 60fps and 16:9 on PS2 version!

It would be funny if these limitations were a result of making the game more portable to the PS2 (that is, if Capcom has really been working on PS2 version for awhile now.)

Maybe not in every sense technically, but I just can't imagine how much worse the game would have to look in real life to not live up to those really impressive looking videos. At the nightime, with all those torches and lightnings, the scene in the video looked damn impressive. The zombies moving creepily and believably like they do, also help a lot. Actually I think the zombie animation believability is a good part of why RE4 looks so good to me. Also, the way they portrayed the gloomy atmosphere in that Eastern European village is damn spot on (I used to visit some such villages a lot, and it's eerily reminiscent of the real thing on a bad weather day) I would go as far to say that despite any technical problems, MGS3 and RE4 are probably my favorite looking recent games - so strong is their art direction and attention to detail (however I have not played RE4 demo yet - my observation is based solely on videos)

I dunno, all the systems invariably differ from one another on these things. While I gather texture fill rate might not compare favourably with PS2 or Xbox, the machine can put out more and higher resolution textures on some games thanks to hardware compression in any case. While it has less RAM than other machines, 1T-RAM in Gamecube has lower latency and Gamecube can nudge closer to it's theoretical transfer rates and other benchmarks. For most cons, they have some sort of pro, and the machine all in all is well balanced and efficient. Flipper does a lot of things remember.There are things that could be done on PS2, whereby they could crank out great performance, and great effects, but this is on the proviso this is more than a simple port and they really optimise the game for PS2. As someone else already said, the reason the Gamecube version is this limited could be because development has had cross-platform/PS2 in mind all along.

I agree. Technically..maybe. But in terms of how pleasing it is to the eyes, how much is there, how much freedom you have, how everything moves.... I think it will still wow people when it's in motion, on a screen in front of their face. In the flesh so to speak. It's a shame MGS3 didn't have the exposure it's predecessor had in November... it looks the better game. Maybe Capcom were right to delay the Gamecube RE4 into 05!

I don't know why you people thing that Magic Box's information EVER did not suck. The guy obviously know no Japanese and doesn't have very good English skills either. Nothing against him though, except he keeps pretending to be "in the know" and reports rumors, hoaxes and mistranslations as fact. And that's only when he's not making up stuff himself based off looking at screenshots or scans with text he doesn't understand. I would think that by now everyone just uses Magic Box as a nice corner were all the media of the week are gathered (stolen) in one place making linking and viewing easier. I have been ignoring anything Magic Box said for several years now personally, but then again I can actually read those magazines he steals from so maybe that's why. I guess when people are desperate from information, even the fake ones don't sound so bad anymore. :lol
