Ready for 8K gaming, Baby !

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
LOL@ the video who displayed how Sony slickly took 8K off the box. I just do not know how they wouldn't know that a PS5 cannot hit 4k let alone 8K.

On the other hand, this is out of reach for almost all of us. I haven't done the math but I am willing to bet that less than 5% of all pc's in the world could hit 4k/60 on most games. I know the TV manufacture's are itching to push out 8K but technology is just not there yet. 4k Movie rips can top out over 100GB so you can only imagine some longer 8K movies/games approaching the 1 TB size. The technology is there for the rich or people with money to burn but for most of us, this is out of reach.

No developer should design their game around 8K, not now, not never.

8K serves absolutely no purpose, most homes don’t have space for TV sizes above 65 inch.

I agree. But watch the video. Both guys are absolutely drooling at Cyberpunk's 8K@15fps. 8K will absolutely be a thing in due time because it's easy to market to the average person.

8k was put there to sell the unsure parents when picking out a present for the christmas kids. Any clueless dad/mom seeing 8k when everything else says 4k would make them think they are getting something better. Very gimmicky of Sony.

I always assumed it was like when the Xbox One S advertised 4k on the box that it was capable of outputting 8k for movies.

PS5 had an 8k game that was downscaled to 4k (Touryst). Not sure what gives you the idea it can't hit 4k, it was pretty ridiculous to have 8K on the box though even with that 1 game rendering internally at 8K. Devs would rather hit better graphics and fps than chase 4k/8k native.

Is there a browser extension that blocks certain YouTube channels? I'm willing to download any browser that supports such a feature at this point.

It's all relative. Of course it can hit 8k games will just have to look a certain way to hit the performance target. Games will look like ps1 games at 8k/30, 8k/60 would look like 16 bit games and 8k/120 will be looking like pong.

PS5 can hit 8K it's just better not to focus on native resolutions

Well 8k is evenly divisible down to 720p(6), 1080p(4), 1440p(3), and 4k(2) so in theory it could support all those resolutions without looking blurry. (Admittedly a huge assumption, my 4k TV looks a little blurry when doing 1080p.)

it was cute when PS5 owners thought their plastic box could do 8K.

PC can do 8K but it's pointless. Just stick to 1440p 360Hz or 4K 120Hz.

Nobody wants to play at low fps like 60fps.

I watched the video and 2 things are clear:

1) Native 8K is doable for non RT games, but it's only doable with a an xx90 card.
2) DLSS 8k is absolutely doable and I'd love to see what DLSS4 brings to that.

8K, in itself, makes little sense on most TV. Is it noticeable from 2m on a 65" TV? They did another video a couple of years ago just for that and it turns out most people couldn't tell the difference.

8K gaming currently would still suffer from lack of 8K assets. But for 8K to be popular, prices should go down and 8K content should be popular. Can most people even stream 8K at decent quality? Is 8K+ recording hardware that popular/mainstream?

We can't even hit 1080p without band-aids at this point. Ain't nobody got time for 8K, or Linus videos.
I still can't believe he built that warehouse and employed all those people but still can't get a fucking review on the level of HardOCP. I learned so much from that guy's enthusiasm!

It could support all of those resolutions without black bars or stretching, but I have a hard time seeing how 720p content wouldn't look blurry on an 8k panel without some kind of awesome upscaling technology. We have plenty of examples of 720p and 1080p looking blurry on 4k panels today.

I know I should shut the hell up but it feels so pretentious to complain about some of the things that pc gamers make a fuss over.

Pretty much integer scaling

So to convert 8k to 720p you'd just take a 6x6 grid of the 8k pixels and use them as one pixel. Here's an article explaining it. Also here's an image showing the idea

Any time I play a game locked at 60fps after being 165hz for so long, I can't believe that used to feel smooth. Trying to get through Nioh right now and I've actually stooped to driver level frame gen just to get by. Wolfenstein New Order and Elden Ring are bigly affected too.

Where are you pulling this data source from? The current sales trend, globally, seems to be larger screens:

The data also points to a growing preference for larger TVs. While shipments of TVs under 40 inches dropped 7% YoY, bigger screens are on the rise. The 60-69 inch category saw a small 1% increase YoY, but the 70-79 inch range grew by 8%, and TVs 80 inches and up surged 29% YoY.

I always enjoying watching their "8k gaming video" every time a new generation of videocards comes out.
It's interesting to see how close we're getting and also the higher the resolution then the more of a gap you'll see between the current gen and previous gen cards.
