Real talk is Kanye West the best rapper of all time?

Kanye is an incredibly average "rapper".

And as a fan of Kanye's music, he hasn't release a great album since MBDTF.

according to your very same criteria, surely the answer is eminem? isn't he the best selling rapper of all time? let alone in terms of rap skills he's lightyears in front of kanye

This is a rough time for Kanye stans. Threads like this are just the tip of the iceberg for the amount of crazy we're gonna be seeing in the next few months.

Hip hop albums better than TLOP released this year:

Atrocity Exhibition
We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service
untitled unmastered.
The Impossible Kid
Bottomless Pit
Imperial
Honor Killed the Samurai

Kanye is incredibly overrated these days

Yes he is a great rapper, but he hasn't made good music since 2003.

You know what. Life of Pablo felt like a crap mess initially but I'm still revisiting plenty of tracks many months later. It's not cohesive, it seems like it lacks any direction or meaning as an album. But the loosies are hot. So I cant hate on it.

FML is up there with the top kanye songs.

Btw thats a solid list of albums. You should check out Azizi Gibson and Isaiah Rashad new albums too this year I think you'd like them

Who would you pick as a pure rapper though? Fuck I've no idea...

Eminem has to be up there, his songs aren't always all that but the guy can spit. Biggie...

Lowkey?

No.

Killer Mike just may be.

Canyee is good at top 40. But so is Justin briber. His message isn't really much of anything and he needs mental help atm. Graduation was solid. But the man has lost himself.

I don't hear what Kanyestans, hear, but I'm willing to learn. Can someone please provide examples as why this is even a thread? What is some real shit he's talking about, in this medium?

-dictated but not read-

If we're talking about rap on a purely technical level, Eminem (98-03) is definitely near the very top. His ability to tell an intricate, humorous story whilst incorporating complex rhyming schemes was absolutely mind blowing. Others worth mentioning would be Nas, Big, Mos Def, Andre 3000 and MF Doom. All for differing reasons.

Mos Def would likely be my ultimate pick. Some of his verses on the Blackstar album still blow me away to this day.

Yeezus is his best.
See, it isn't.

Only blind Kanye fans would think this. They think he can do no wrong and that each album is better than the next. Everyone is wrong and Yeezus is actually his best. Doesn't that sound iffy to you?

Sorry, this that was kinda a shit thing to say, you're entitled to that.

Well it is thought that blind people have a heightened sense of hearing so it would make sense that they would like Yeezus. A sonically stunning album.

Just feel maybe if you stopped sucking Kanye's cock you could discover some better music, but whatever

Best entertainer? You could actually have somewhat of a point.

Best rapper? Get the fuck out of here. Dude can't even hang in the top 50.

Only a close minded person would think this.
You do know that plenty of people consider Yeezus to be his best or tied for his best while considering TLOP and Graduation poor/weak right?
Yeezus had love from large groups of people and critical acclaim.

absolutely agreed, i'm just saying it's considered a standout effort by post black album standards. it's head & shoulders above what came immediately before & after

which isn't uncommon with a body of work that large either, granted. everyone falls off, and i think if we're being honest most heads try to point out when we're highlighting a good (but not great) album how much it shines when we're looking at a point in an MC's career well past their best work.
No, it's barely below Reasonable Doubt in quality, if it came out prior to the Black Album or The Blueprint people would be whining about Jay's lyricism and pop choices on those two albums, it isn't given credit because of when it came out so people want to diminish it like you just did.
I agree with a lot of this. How many people honestly listened to PE after the It Takes a Nation/Fear of a Black Planet era?

Tribe's weakest album is Beats & Rhymes, but I would still think they have a GOAT worthy discography, including their latest album.

Can't really speak on Pac, never was a huge fan of him. A lot of his production choices turned me off of him.

Jay Z album wise fell the fuck off post Black Album. American Gangster is great, but what the fuck was Magna Carter, Kingdom Come and that weedplate Blueprint 3?!?!

Nas is my favorite rapper ever, I own all of his albums. But I would be lying if I were to say Street's Disciple, Hip Hop is Dead, and Untitled were damn near forgettable outside of a few tracks. Life is Good on the other hand was Nas back to form and I hope we get more of that direction his next album.
Nas's rapping and song writing is infinetly better on Untitled compared to Life Is Good.
Rick Ross had the best rapping on the album aside from the bonus tracks.

lmao

Kanye's best are TCD and MBDTW.

History will remember those albums. They sure as shit won't remember Yeezus.

Long and dense discussions about such a mediocre artist have always been a mystery to me, KanyeGAF are like the popGAF of the popGAF.

My wife told me earlier today, as she had actually tried listening to Kanye, that she was appaled at the outright lack of talent. Personally I couldn't agree more.

He's a great self promoter. I'll give him that.

yeezy GOAT mad genius; too intelligent to comprehend; will be talked about in 100 years as a visionary etc etc

Jay - 3 great albums and a whole lot of trash
Nas - Lmao have you listened to half of his albums?
UGK - Loads of great albums but nothing on Kanye's best
Pac - I'm crying
Tribe - There's an argument to made here for sure
PE - Not even close

There are so many terrible albums from the artists you just listed it's not even funny. Kanye's worst album defined an entire generation of hip hop.

Try again.

Trash post, go listen to All Eyez on Me. It's a masterpiece.

Give me Public Enemy, Mos Def, Wu Tang, Tribe, B.I.G., Pac, Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, KRS One, RUN, Dre, Cube, Talib + Hi Tek, Erik B and Rakim, and Slick Rick before you give me a Kanye GOAT topic familia.
