Rebel Without A Console: What has been your experience so far gaming directly from your TV & do you think it will ever have a killer App?

I test it out from time to time but never for long but the Gaming Portal on LG TVs seems to be growing pretty rapidly. Games work well enough but I have seen some random stutters. Being able to get games directly to consumers quickly is a pretty good advantage but getting people who don't really care about gaming enough to own a console to pay for a subscription or buy games directly on their TVs seems like a strange market.

I believe someone should make some great games made for TV like an exclusive Pacman game or something. Time wasters are probably the better way to go with this instead of trying to sell the console experience to people who don't own a console.

This is a dumb question, but what controller you use to play games on Netflix and such like? Is pairing it a pain the arse and is there a ton of lag?

Also, do games load fast and is at 1080p etc or like playing on a PS2?

Tv apps aren't all equal or equipped.

For fun, I tried using my Game Pass Ultimate streaming subscription on my Dad's TV. It worked really well, but realistically I would never have a need for it since I play on my console and stream to my Steam Deck. I will admit that it was nice to just log in and play without the need for an update, and my game save file was right where I left it.

The ultimate in pay money and own nothing. Luckily there's so much back history in gaming now, you could never buy a new game and have plenty to play for the rest of your life.

Can tolerate the slow menu navigation, I game on a Crystal UHD 55" Samsung TV, with games like gears of war and Battlefield 2042 and it executes its purpose well, how? Through streaming with little to no lag.

Amazon Prime always has a selection of "free" Luna games. I've tried a few through the web browser and was honestly impressed with the latency. This is on a wired connection tho.

I messed around with Luna quite a bit a few years ago. It worked perfectly with the Luna controller over a wireless connection. The controller actually connects to the WiFi to reduce latency. It's impressive tech.

I think Microsoft is on the right path with their streaming stuff. They have more compelling games than whatever Luna and the other services have to offer.

Eventually they will be the norm but we all maybe dead by that time.
The reach is pretty far now with the biggest barrier being to actually get people to connect a controller to their smart TV. Some games can actually be played with the TV remote though.

I never played any games on Netflix but so far I have connected PS4 , PS5 , Xbox 360 (with the wireless USB dongle) & a few random controllers made to work with PC/Android, /Switch & so on to different TVs .

Loading seems to be close to what we are used to now.
I believe some of these services can actually go up to 4K now .

I believe Controllers will be the next battlegrounds , having a controller that you can take anywhere & game that keep your profiles & settings will probably be the end game.

There won't be any need to keep a profile on a controller when they can just keep your profile online. You're probably going to have to be online to play anyway.

I usually disable most of my smart TV features and run streaming though Apple TV. LG and Samsung sometimes mess with color profiles and make things worse with updates so I usually disable all that nonsense unless there is a bug I absolutely need to patch up.

And my wife and kids all have accounts and iPhones so it's much easier to control everything and save everyone's profiles.

I have tried out Luna, Nvidia and Xbox streaming, but not through a TV directly.

MS is doing this to create a bullet point to placate shareholders.
No one at MS thinks that piggybacking into TVs on the cluttered innards of a TV's OS is something that's going to pan out.

At a minimum any game console needs to own one HDMI slot - existing on a 'channel' that's separated away from the clutter and distraction of the smart TV.
With TVs and smartphones both existing as cluttered multipurpose devices the future of game consoles needs to be more like game consoles of the past - a much more focused UX.
Gaming on a console provides a focused break from the chaos of multipurpose devices - a sanctuary for efficient gameplay and efficient game acquisition.
