Recent Workplace Fatality

Just under a week ago we had our first workplace fatality. I work in a large production facility for a large global company. The gentleman who died was always cordial with me. We would greet each other and say hello as we passed. He worked on the machine across from me. I was not on the shift where he was caught in the machine and asphyxiated.

RIP

Please be safe out there folks. If your at work keep an eye open for states like Rushing, frustration, fatigue and complacency. They lead to trouble.

Be safe.

Having seen a fair share of lathe accidents and other workplace hazards gone wrong online, I give the guy my sincerest RIP.

As has been said, there's a million things that can go wrong operating large machines like that, from fatigue, to negligence, to rushing, to being understaffed, to not being properly trained, to dumb luck to fucking having long hair or an untucked shirt. It's really not something you can ever take it easy around, even if you've been operating things one million times for fifteen years without incident. Just takes that one time for it to go tits up.

Hope OP and his coworkers are handling things okay.

RIP :(

If you're working with or near large machinery respect the fuck out of safety markings on the floor, protective shields and not have anything dangling from you if you are working on them like long hair for example. Your shit can get fucked up in an instant.
Protective shields were annoying at first, but I have learned to accept them.
