Recently closed studios?

Anyone have a list? or remember some studio that closed its doors this last years? I would appreciate it and maybe it could be a good requiem for your disappeared favorite studio.

Some recent ones include two Atari studios (Santa Monica, CA and Beverly, MA); VIS in England; Westwood in Las Vegas; Papyrus in Washington(?); Troika in Irvine, CA; Impressions in somewhere, USA; Ion Storm in Austin, TX; and I'm sure I'm missing others.

sammy really didn't close. they became an independent studio, High Moon Studios
Yes they did close. The dev team was able to find private funding and was able to purchase the Darkwatch IP (along with some others?) from Sammy/Sega. The Sammy Carlsbad is, in fact, closed and all of sales, marketing, and executive management have been let go. Everyone was laid off but the dev team survived by founding High Moon.

the publisher sammy studios closed.

Private funding came from the CEO John Rowe. They are still in the same building as when they were Sammy.

I wouldn't even say they closed. They didn't even have a blip in development. Only problem now is they need to find a publisher.

Black Isle
Ion Storm
Microprose
Torika
Blue52
Capcom Production Studio 6
Red Orb

If anything, I really hope Snowblind doesn't join the list since I doubt SOE will be working with them again.

Snowblind should have made money not only off their games, but also off the engine. I would think they are in good condition. I hope they're working on a next gen dungeon crawler. :D

What did happen to the Galleon makers and Argonaut?

Confounding Factor (Galleon) - Closed. Toby Gard relocated to Crystal Dynamics to work on Tomb Raider Legend.

Argonaut - Filed for bankruptcy. Only studio to survive was Just Add Monsters, now renamed Ninja Theory and financially backed by Jez San. Developing Heavenly Sword for SCEE on PS3.
