First tragedy, then farce.
Im running out of bands to listen to lately it seems, so Im asking GAFers for help.. I'll listen to most anything, but generally indie rock/emo/posthardcore are what I listen to.. Cursive, Bright Eyes, Pedro the Lion, Elliott Smith, Motion City Soundtrack, Sonic Youth, Neutral Milk Hotel, Get up Kids, etc. The more obscure (but not so obscure I cant find their music) or older (say a precursor to these bands) the better, since it'll have a better chance of me not allready owning it.

Super cool bonus points: if the band is listed on emusic.com, since I have downloads coming out the ass on that site.

There's alot of Centromatic on eMusic. Or used to be anyway. Seems fitting with your taste, and if you can withstand Magnum's voice you can withstand anything.

It's hard recommending bands to you guys (GAF in general, not naming names) when you have such close-minded tastes in music.

I dunno, try Stereolab.

WOLF PARADE

get them now so you can feel smug when everyone else notices them in November

they are going to be The Arcade Fire of 2005 (hopefully you do not perceive this as a bad thing)

Are you willing to try foreign stuff? If so try the Swedish band called Kent. My favourite song by them so far is Dom Andra :D

Not exactly obscure, but I'm always up for recommending the New Pornographers and they've got a new album coming this summer. And if you need more obscure, go for A.C. Newman's "The Slow Wonder" album and his old band Zumpano. He's the male singer for the New Pornographers and writes one hell of a catchy song.

The Bravery
Dredg
Q and Not U
The Postal Service
And what exactly is a new band there? They're all like 3 years old, except maybe for The Bravery, which, well, sucks.

Lamb Of God!!!!!! damn it :)

If you're looking for music to make you want to put your fist through the wall, you'll probably never find a better band. Elements of Hardcore, Death Metal, but not really sounding like either. Great band.

Another band that is worth a shot(and I've mentioned about a million times before) is Pain of Salvation. Not gonna go into why they're so great(do a search for a previous post of mine about them, most recent was in Lemurnator's metal thread) but PoS(gotta love the acronym) is a band that takes some considerable time to digest completely. They're probably NOT going to grab you on the first few listens. If you're interested though, I HIGHLY reccomend starting out on Perfect Element Pt.1, as that's the closest album they have to being "accessible". They have some full songs on their website for download(although they seem to skip a bit)...www.painofsalvation.com.

Other great choices are...

Nevermore (great great plain old metal band, not really any screaming but they are HEAVY as hell no matter)
Children of Bodom (some find the singer unbearable, I think he's great but he takes some getting used to...the music though is so energetic, heavy, complicated, and melodic. it's fantastic)
Lamb of God(as already mentioned, great band, one of the few great metal acts actually gaining notoriety now)

As for the less heavy...

Porcupine Tree. great, melodic rock band. really really really good band, I'm not great at describing bands of this type though

Katatonia. The closest thing to emo I listen to, and one of my absolute favorite bands. their newer stuff is their best. I think "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" is one of the most emotionally moving albums ever written. Their latest, "Viva Emptiness" is great too, but not auite as spectacular to these ears. DEFINITELY check this band out, based on what you listen to now. If the intro to "disposession" doesn't hook you right away, then you have no pulse.
www.katatonia.com they have some samples there. their singer improved drastically on "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" though, and I feel that and their most recent cd are their best by far.
I may be back with more reccomendations later, but I have to head out for now. Happy listening, and make SURE to check out Katatonia, as I think you would like them alot.
