Some more obscure electronic stuff from the four main genres I'm into:

Gavin G - Nowhere to hide - Liquid Drum 'n' Bass ("melodic DnB")
Transcend - Domination - Freeform Hardcore (sub-genre of UK Hardcore)
Nigel Good feat. Sarah Clark - Always Running - Progressive House
Alex Klingle - Colors Back - Progressive Trance

For whatever reason only electronic dance music really does it for me. I can listen to hiphop, rock, current pop music and some j/kpop, but I always gravitate back to music played at either raves or dance music festivals.
When I hear people gush about the Beatles or tell me how Prince or George Michael's music touched them I really don't get it. I can appreciate they're talented but there's no positive reaction or connection in my brain when I hear their music. It's been the same for at least 25 years, the first music I recall liking were the eurodance tracks from the early 90s.

OP: maybe you just need to find the one type of music that 'clicks' with you, there seems to be a ton of different things posted in this thread already so I hope you find it!

If you really want to get into more music, I'd really just recommend finding a list of the best albums from the past few years and listening to the ones that seem most interesting. This list has a ton of great albums the 2000's, some of them will be familiar to you. Gaf is going to recommend a lot of garbage metal/prog rock/K-pop albums, there'll be too much crap to wade through before you find something that you like.

Apparently you haven't seen the GAF AOTY results. Far from littered with metal, prog and kpop
just ignore the Metallica album placing on the list lol
. And hating on metal/prog and dropping a Pitchfork list? Nice. It's been a while since I've seen someone use that move.

Absolutely nothing wrong with those genres

Haha good luck, you are going to get all manner of stuff and not all of it decent asking Gaf.

I would take what youve liked and go put it into Discogs.
At the bottom youll have a bunch of recommendations of similar stuff and thats how I can spend days digging.

Failing that, Go on Spotify and add in everything you like and then go on Discover and the weekly playlist it makes will give you loads.

Madvillany is a good shout though

There's so much I could possibly recommend so I'll just go with what I'm listening to right now: the album A Different Ship by Here We Go Magic.

BRNS

I genuinely don't get this band aren't more popular.

Either of their albums are good to start with.

I actually felt like messaging them the other night to ask for more music.

OR

For something completely different...

Music to Sooth the Savage Youth by Birthday Boy and Drew Howard.

i sure did. i better be cultured as hell about music by the time i'm done too

Starset. Cinematic/space rock band. These guys can mix electronic/spacey sounds with real instruments to create a type of music I have never heard of. I saw these guys open up for Breaking Benjamin 2 1/2 years ago and they were really good.

At the moment, they probably my favorite band at the moment. Its crazy how they don't have a single bad song. New album drops this Friday. They are so criminally underrated its a shame. I hope they take off with this album. Not enough people give them a chance, at least them a chance OP :p

I listened to music growing up, but I feel I never music speak to me like I've heard others describe. This never concerned me until recently when I began believing that many people partly define themselves by the music they like.

Oh, you want music to speak to you? I can provide two songs for that.

ABBA - The Winner Takes It All 4:48 | Lyrics from AZLyrics
I always tear up when I sing along to "Winner Takes It All"

Elton John - Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding 11:10 | Lyrics Included in the video, but it uses garbage font colors
As noted by the title of the song, it's actually two songs. "Funeral for a Friend," is the instrumental that leads into "Love Lies Bleeding."

....huh, two break-up songs. oopsie

Empire of the Sun - High and Low Like a large portion of EotS's music, this a catchy upbeat song with a nice driving beat.

Smashing Pumpkins - Hummer The greatest song to come out of the 90s alternative rock scene, imo

Singularity - Alone (Au5 & Fractal Remix) EDM + Dubstep fusion. I know, I know, "dubstep," but give it a listen. Its more melodic than your typical garbage-tier computer-chainsaw dubstep.

Tame Impala - Let It Happen Its a longer song but it really feels like its taking you on a journey and the last minute is godlike
