Red Orchestra 2 Beta is Now Available on Steam

I warm up to this game more each time I play it. Really phenomenal, brings me back to my early DoD days. I can see myself dividing my time with BF3 and this, really solid ww2 game.
 
I just found out the setting which has a massive impact on my framerate: One-Frame Thread Lag. Having this checked doubles my framerate. Seriously.

What's odd as well is that I have "Maximum pre-rendered frames" set to 0 in my control panel, so this setting doesn't introduce any control lag whatsoever. This, of course, doesn't make much sense, as it would imply that the option should effectively do nothing in-game...and yet it increases performance by a large amount.
 
I <3 Barracks a lot, was in a SA server earlier and people were playing like a real team. Ace map.

Grain Elevator is still my fave though.

A required update for Red Orchestra 2 Beta will be released shortly. This
update includes client and server stability fixes, performance
optimizations, lots of bug fixes, and the final 4 MP maps. A full changelist
will come with the release.

"Final 4 MP maps" worries me. The game only has like 7 maps, then? That's appalling if true.

A MP game does not need a huge number of maps to be good. Quality over quantity. Starcraft 2 had only half a dozen maps that were played competitively during the first 6 months. Counter-Strike has only had like 6 great maps since launch. I'll take beautifully designed maps like Apartments over the usual poorly designed CoD trash we tend to get in today's multiplayer shooters.

It's going to take a long while to master each map.

You also have the In the Country: Vietnam and Rising Storm (Pacific and Vietnam) Official total conversion mods to look forward to for free.

Also future maps, vehicles and weapons are going to be free of charge. This game is going to have tonnes of support for it.

Relax when it comes to maps, they will come in time and for free!
 
I see one server with a CommissarsHouse map, but can't join it. Can't join any of the other servers anymore, now. Ah well, wait and see!

EDIT: I really hope they eventually port over RO1. They were mostly superb, esp. Konigsplatz and Kaucasus.

Plus custom maps by the community.
 
I guess I'm just really sensitive to playing the same maps over and over. I'll probably get over it if I can find a server with a good, unvotable map rotation, but we'll see. And yeah, I hope the future content updates floweth aplenty.

And yeah, Konig and Kauc were my two favorite maps of RO1. Unfortunately they're not very... "Stalingrad".

Console Port?
This CAN'T be a console port, right? The first one most definitely was NOT a console port, nor even on the console... I think, right? So far, is this game looking like a console port? I am utterly sick and tired of console games on the PC, they are all &#9829;&#9829;&#9829;&#9829; and not worth my money. Thanks, for any info beta testers!
 
Tripwire will be supporting RO2 for years. Ten maps at launch is perfectly fine to me, especially with such quality ones as Grain Elevator and Apartments.

And yeah, this is totes a console port. Someone should let that guy know.

It has 10 maps. That is how many maps battlefield 3 will have too. What exactly are you worried about, the maps are amazing.
 
Massive update just hit, here's the changelog:

-New maps (Commissar's House, Station, Spartanovka, Pavlov's House)
-Client Performance Optimizations
-Client and Server crash fixes
-Improvements to hit detection
-Punkbuster Anti-Cheat can now be used by servers and is on by default
-Added enable PunkBuster setting and PunkBuster disabled warning in Server Browser
-Removed the ability to swap teams from the class select menu. Instead, there is now a button to open the team select menu. This will reduce some confusing 'Role is taken' messages.
-Adjustments to weapon unlocks for each class. Veteran marksman now unlock semi auto sniper rifles, veteran anti-tank now unlock satchels, and more.
-RO1 players will now get automatic bayonet upgrades for the Kar98 and Mosin rifle without needing to level these weapons first.
-Mid-game map voting will now immediately change maps if enough players vote.
-Fixed some reloading issues for weapons with stripper clips (G41, Kar98, etc)
-Fixed problems with enemy spotted from inside a tank
-Fixed occasionally seeing your dead self with no head or arms
-Fixed an exploit with cover allowing super speedy firing for rifles

Video Settings menu refinement

-Fixed an issue with AI swapping positions while a player was dead and waiting to take over positions in a tank. This made it appear that some positions were "coming back to life"
-Fixed some vehicle AI bugs
-Fixed not being able to kill the hull MGer or tank gunner in the Panzer IV if they were a human player
-Created an intelligent system to grab bullet from partial clips before moving on to whole clips. This prevents you from ending up with all of your clips having just a few rounds missing.
-Fixed getting bullet whizzed by guys that are not even facing you (I.e. shooting away from you). Also fixed double replication of some hit impacts/bullet whizzes.
-Refined speedhack detection to have less false positives
 
Really regretting buying the non-digital deluxe version (and it's not worth it to upgrade, now).

Also, am I the only who mainly played the tank maps for RO1? Kinda disappointed there's only one, but I'm sure a ton will show up (including remakes) as soon as the SDK is available.

I'm really hoping we get some more official tanks maps alongside the vehicle releases

And I just stabbed someone with mine, great success! (Kinda, he killed me in the process. He died a slow horrible death though.) :)
 
Hahahahahaha, oh man, <3 <3 <3 bayonet. We just charge at each other with them now.

EDIT: I just really really really like bayonets.
 
Only servers that are showing up for me are empty, even though they say they have xx amount of people playing when I click on them. Nothing in the filter I accidentally checked. Bizarre.
 
Stats are still broken in the menu. Im at level 25 with needing 25 more honor points for the next level. I only put 40 minutes into this game because it crashes all the time for me.

Theres no way it will be ready by the 13th.
 
Those of you guys who were playing on our server (Kentucky Fried Gulasch) the update broke the favorites list so it sends people to another server now if you try to join from that. Please remove and readd to favorites. You can join by opening up console and typing "open ro2goons.com" without the quotes.
 
Apparently whatever server I click on sends me to another server altogether, dead ones at that. Typing in an ip is the only way I can get into what I want.

But I got back into that Goon server (Kentucky Fried Gulasch) and played a bit. Friendly people, I like playing there. Pavlov's House runs like ass though. I thought it was just me until others brought it up too. I liked it otherwise, hopefully TW can tweak that. Spartanovka seemed pretty cool, until I crashed to desktop. Will check out the other maps tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm getting terrible performance there. I really like it though. Great map for AT-ers.

The new maps are amazing. Especially Station which is probably the best MP map I have played in any game ever.
Station is delicious. It funnels the action into choke points in some really neat ways. Makes for a super hectic and fun map.
