Red Orchestra 2 Beta is Now Available on Steam

I can't say I have had any issues with that. In fact the hitboxes are better than in most games. Some shots don't register with my rifle, but I am not confident to claim that they are all hits anyway. Will need to see some testing on this in a controlled environment.
I actually just ragequit a server a little bit ago aiming down a hallway at a german. I shot, saw my bullet hit the wall to my left...thought it was extremely weird. I came back and aimed down the hall again at the german player, same thing happened again. I actually read about them saying there's a bug with adjusting the sight range and how they fixed it, but I never changed it. I don't think that's what he was complaining about though.

On apartments, I watched a guy run out of the propaganda house and lie down near a bush, while I was just crouching about 50m away. I aimed at him and shot...nothing happened. I shot at him 3 more times and still nothing happened. This was with a semi-auto rifle and I waited about 1s between shots. Then he finally noticed me and killed me.

So a fix for crashing is to change shadow settings from low to something else? Seems a bit strange, but I'll have to try it.

I had a blast with the little I played last night before my crash issues. Got my first melee kill sort of...I hit the guy twice with my rifle and he stood there stunned or something so I put one into his chest. It made me feel like such a bad ass. It was hectic and adrenaline pumping. This was a case of where the delayed kill notification really enhanced the experience.

That is weird. I suppose it's hit or miss then? Cause I've had shots hit that would have missed in CoD or BF.

I guess it heavily depends on connection performances?

Most of the times the hit detection is fantastic, though strange things happen, like being killed while in cover (especially while being stuck in it with no opportunity to pop out and shoot).

By the way, the new maps are awesome. This game needs to be played with a lot of friends and teamwork to really shine, and I don't think I have more than 3-4 friends on my list actually aware of the game's existence xD

I've read some users complain about cheaters/hackers: noob paranoia or is it something plausible and actually happening?

This guy's hacks are notoriously umpossible to get rid of. This is the crap that drives me nuts.

.

Fuck, now some misterious deaths in my latest match make a lot more sense xD

I hope it doesn't spread too much, the game is so good when played fair.

I have no Idea why people would cheat.. Sad people indeed ruining the game for other legit players and not to mention cheating would take all the fun out.. boggles the mind.

That is why you should play on good servers with admin presence.

We have rented our own 64 player server and we moderate it and keep it clean from crap like that.

The lack of proper first-person spectating will hurt the effectiveness of admins, though. Hacks are not always that obvious unless you're watching in first person.

You can always tell when some guy has 20x the kills of everyone else 20x as fast.

That gets tricky. I've been booted from games before where people thought I was cheating when I wasn't.

I am sure you get false positives but if you watch out for it you can always tell. There will never be a perfect situation where only the hacker gets kicked but I would much rather play on a well moderated server than on one where there are no admins, and aimbotters and hackers ruin it for everyone.

Some players make it too easy for you to seem like a cheater. When half the other team keeps their heads immobile for more than a few seconds at a time and slightly above cover, you have no choice but to shoot them all.

Well I was on the fence about buying this today. Seeing these hack videos though.. guess I will wait :(.

Hacks aren't magically going to disappear. Find a good server and it shouldn't really be an issue.

This is the case for any online competitive game.

So far I haven't encountered anyone hacking. Most of the servers I've played on the majority of people are running around wondering what the hell is going on while a few veterans pick them off from good locations. I am most definitely part of the group wondering what the hell is going on.

Idk, aimbots n' shits happen it only ruins your game experience if you let it. I'm sure once server communities are established this won't be much of an issue.

This isn't Gunz level of hacking with death raining down for the sky.

I had the game get bugged for me once after a force respawn by the commander. I was looking through the eyes of another person, but couldn't see my own weapon. I could switch weapons and fire and throw grenades though. When he died, I took control of my own body again back at spawn. Totally tripped me out when it first happened.

There are hack videos for every single PC game. I haven't seen one hacker and I've played for probably 15+ hours so far.

Well would you say its worth purchasing early for the beta?

I think the game is awesome and completely worth it, but I could see some people being offput by the technical issues that are present at this time. I'm glad to partake in the beta, learn the maps, and help them improve the game for release. I'm sure the game will be worth it for release, at the very least. Whether or not the extra $7 or so is worth it for the beta, is up to you. Tripwire has been very responsive to the community, and has been clearly putting in a lot of effort to improve the game as best they can for release. They have a great track record for patches, so I expect the game to improve steadily over time.

Cheapest spot to pick up the game would be greenmangaming.com. You can add the code 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS to your order and save an additional 20%. That's around $27 for the regular, and $34 for the DDE I believe. If you get a referral link from someone, you can also get a $5 credit on your account for your next order.

Hmm thanks for the heads up, but for some reason my CC is refusing to work on GMG. Guess some US banks don't trust the website.

Edit: Pay Pal did the job..

But then

Unfortunately, we have temporarily run out of activation keys for the following title(s): Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad - Digital Deluxe Edition. We expect to be able to get a further supply within the next three working days and will e-mail your key at that time.

Son of a bitch..

That's because the hack hasn't been released to "the public" yet. They're still testing it. Once it does... hopefully vac will help.

I saw a couple aimbots last night when gaming. I didn't know they were in the game until I looked at the scoreboard after people started raging. Went back out and spectated and sure enough. And it was on a pb server too... bleh.

But you're right, hacks are on all pc games, especially fps.

Factory favours the defenders very heavily. Going to need good communication to break them down.
After trying the map out I think I'll have to agree, very hard to get a grip on that map as an attacker. But it also makes it super-tense death can await from so many directions, each peek or sprint could sent you back to the spawn queue :).

I wish people realized that you CAN vote different maps other than barracks. You have to mouse scroll to select a diff map.
The map vote is actually broken for me. I can scroll but it'll take me right back to the beginning once I stop scrolling.

Yeah the new map vote menu is awful and unintuitive. I guess I'll stick to servers with non-votable rotations for now.

Yea ours is on rotation for Territory with some FF and Countdown once a while. An admin is usually on to switch to a map or gametype the majority wants as well.

Search for "Kentucky Fried Gulasch" it is a 64 player server and gaffers are all welcome to play on it.

I'll say that there needs to be a priority system for the 'use' key. I'd like to be able to bandage over taking cover and taking a weapon, and taking a weapon over cover, then taking cover.

Too many times I've taken cover where I wanted to bandage myself. Also I'd say that bandaging should override the reload command, same as switching weapons does.

It's the resupply key, and resupplying dudes is a huge pain because of it. You gotta make sure you're not injured and not near cover to be able to resupply someone, it seems.

So most people ignore resupply commands as a result.

Which is the biggest pain in the ass in a game like this. Nothing like completely having the drop on a tank and you're ripping him to shreds just to run out of ammo and no one near you even resupplying you. I've been resupplied only once and that's including the 50 people that have tried to help and asked me what the key was just for it never to work after I told them. The AT rifle even fucks up the infantry at an objective but you can only do so much with the amount of ammo you're given and the nearest ammo resupply is a mile out...lol

I actually went around resupplying all the MG's earlier tonight on Barracks and allowed them to repel the enemy's advance and gave us an easy win. It's amazing how something as simple as resupplying someone can alter the battle, especially if the MG's are set up in good locations.

Just an update on the OP. I finished a few more of the graphics but the majority of the writing still needs to be done if anyone wants to help write a certain section they feel comfortable with. Any of you guys have any suggestions for the thread title?

Here's what was suggested already:

Red Orchestra 2 |OT| Heroes of StalinGAF
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad |OT| For Reich or Motherland?
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad |OT| Fascists and Commies, Oh my!

Just don't do any semi-funny in-crowd titles. Just name it The Official Red Orchestra 2 thread and be done with it.

That's pretty damn good since it's the truth along with "Press Ctrl to go into cover, resupply teammates, pick up weapons, and anything else we couldn't find a button for since there's only 30 other keys left on the keyboard with nothing assigned to them." A little long? :D

That's pretty good too. And Dina, I wouldn't care if it was just a simple title but I think the name is half the fun when there's not a lot of conversations going on.

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad |OT| I can't tell friend or foe?

i have problems figuring out my opponents, everyone's uniform looks so similar
guess i'm just noob

Look at how they carry they carry the weapons and especially the hats.

It's so easy to spot.

Oh and I reported that guy, I hope he burns.
