Well, the server browser no longer brings the game to a halt! Still waiting for the servers to update before I can join a game...

This one is giving me a hard time. Even knowing who to shoot has a learning curve. Just have to use a the radar at this point but taking that split second to check it gets me killed a lot. I don't want anything stupid like triangle on every enemy but even the enemy colors can look similar in some situations.

I have a hell of a time telling the enemy from my own team. My early play time has gone something like this... Pick the Red Ally team... see guy running around with green text above head so I'm thinking green means Axis and shoot him for negative team kill points.....see another guy this time with red text above his head so I figure this must mean that red is enemy and shoot him for more negative team kill points....there across the map is a guy with no text above his head, so I assume then my team mates all have random colored text above them and the enemies don't, so I kill him for yet even more team kill points.

Am I missing something here? Is the only way to tell enemies by the clothes? That will take some serious re-training of my reflexes.

Yes. HALP. I am only getting points due to being in a match lol. No kills. At least no TKs since I'm a chicken and I spend most of my time running and hiding and watching my comrades die around me.

You'll see text above nearby enemies, but that's it. Beyond that, it's clothes. It does add a dimension to the gameplay...don't do something stupid that your team might misinterpret by thinking you're the enemy (like rushing back towards your side from known enemy positions).

Yes, this game doesn't hold your hand.

I really didn't think they'd go that far in a game like this. Like this game isn't punishing enough to newbies.

They've said that the bonuses are relatively minor. I'm glad they're there...a leveling system is always a nice incentive to keep playing. There are always unranked servers, anyways.

Enemies will never have text above their head. Germans run with their rifle in one hand, Russians hold it in both. Germans are grey/dark grey, Russians are brownish.

Glad I'm not constantly crashing now!

Also I just have to say how nice it is to have a crouch-run. More shooters need that.

Holy shit this is amazing. So refreshing. Mechanics work like a dream. Once there's more teamwork and the noobs are scared away it's going to be a very smooth game.

Ya I can't wait!

Yeah. The nazis will hold their guns with one hand, and the commies will do it with two. It's such a brilliant touch to identify moving targets.

Woo! 192m rifle kill! <3 <3 Mosin-Nagant. My RO1 instincts are slowly coming back.

I'm not particularly worried about the leveling system. Lvl 0 rifle does the job wonderfully.

This is going to fight for GOTY against Dark Souls for me.

I'm playing mainly on the TacticalGamer server. I love the kill confirm delays. Makes you sweat for a few seconds if you actually made the kill or the enemy just ducked for cover.

Also, never stay in one spot for more than a few seconds. You're ripe for rifle (sniper or not, doesn't matter) pickings. If I see an enemy helmet sticking out and not moving for a few seconds, it gets a bullet through it. A mobile target is much much more difficulty to shoot. Don't be predictable in how you pop out your head.

Any videos of the beta thus far on the video from a GAF peep I can check out?

I'm interested in this game, but there's no way I'll blind put out almost 40 bucks when I'm strapped for cash and have other big titles this fall to buy. Wish they had given others the chance to play their beta to help build more interest. :(

Game is still completely unplayable for me. I can't click anything on the menu. Stupidest goddamn bug I've ever experienced in a game. :/

I've been FRAPsing some footage but at the moment it's a little hard to edit because of all the team killing.

(I'm only half joking - it isn't that hard to edit)

Maybe revalidate the Steam cache files to see if that helps?

Nah, fixed it by deleting the config directory. After fully uninstalling/reinstalling everything. :/

I'm not sure if it's the servers I'm playing on or what, but I'm constantly being team-switched and class-changed, even before I'm dying. I had a nice little run going as a Soviet and next thing I know I'm sitting in German spawn with a MP40 in my hands. Or I'll be out on the field as a specific class, get popped, then am not allowed to respawn after I die because someone else just got my role. The game doesn't actually communicate with you when any of this happens either, it's very jarring.

I was playing around with a few of the AusGAF crew yesterday and there was one moment that enforced the thought that this game was brilliant, albeit with shortcomings.

Countdown mode. Us Russians are trying to defend the most ridiculous of places with barely any cover. Half of us are on our bellies in the snow, the other half are on their backs with their guts spilling out. I'm waiting on a small slope to try and give me a height advantage, I know there are two of my comrades further to my left somewhere. It is stupidly quiet for a battlefield but I see some Germans quickly moving about, most of them crouched and glimpses of a small helmet here, a hand there. There was about a minute or two where there was absolute silence outside of small movement sounds. My character is breathing heavily, I haven't moved a single muscle, and I hear one of my comrades silently utter, "..I'm scared."

It added so much atmosphere to the game.

LMFAO. That is actually so cool.

Does anyone have any tips for increasing FPS while not sacrificing too much image quality? My settings are here: http://i56.tinypic.com/lw18n.png.

I've turned down (from max):
- Detail Mode
- Character Detail
- Shadow Quality
- Foliage Quality (to Medium)
- Unchecked Bloom and Ambient Occlusion

Getting mostly 60FPS but it still chugs when it gets busy...gaming at 1080p...i5 2500k @ 4.7 GHz, Radeon HD 6970 CrossFireX.

My guess is I will have to turn off/down that AA. :(

EDIT: shoot...and just realized my GFX card OC did not apply at my last reboot (880 MHz to 950 MHz GPU clock and 1375 MHz to 1450 MHz memory clock) - so that'll eek out a few more frames.

I recommend removing framerate smoothing and one-frame lag if you want to improve control response.

I managed to play one game. The other 15 times I was met with some bug or CTD that fucked me over before I managed to get into the game. The game I did manage to play was superb... just what I was looking for in a MP FPS.

I'm just a little worried about the state this thing is going to be in come launch time. It's a complete mess at the moment.

Okay, after having fixed my lag spikes which was solely from my end, I'm really enjoying the game. Actually let me rephrase that, I can't even start the game without having a massive, throbbing hard on. I'm hand-on-heart enjoying this more than I did the Battlefield 3 Alpha -- probably because this is so much more up my street, hardcore, slow and extremely intense.

As I said earlier, having no performance issues whatsoever. The game looks fantastic on Ultra, with every Post-processes effect turned on including SSAO. The quality of some of the textures is breathtaking. They nailed the atmosphere perfectly and while the music does have some issues where it randomly stops a track and starts another, some of the slow, silent orchestral tracks playing whilst standing alone somewhere, you can hear footsteps and shots all around you is awesome.

Hit detection is spot-on, pace is perfect, the feel of driving a tank is extr ... HNNNGGGG. The gunplay is even above and beyond some of favorite shooters, they really nailed it.

Obviously the Beta has its issues but I seem to have escaped most / all of them and this is my new GOTY contender. Too bad I now have a 9 hour work-day ahead of me, else I would have played this all-freaking-day!

Oh by the way, to anyone who's having performance issues ... Use FXAA instead of AMD's crappy MLAA. Looks better and it's more effective, i.e takes a smaller FPS hit.

EDIT: Here's my settings, netting my 60FPS ( Vsync locked )

Damnit I had forgotten about this. For some reason on my machine, Tripwire games do not show servers. I can refresh and restart and open ports and disable firewalls as much as I want, but they just will not show up.

What kind of system do you have Sethos?

I was hoping my i5-760 @4ghz and 580gtx would be enough to max out this game but apparently not. I had to turn off SSAO, turn down shadows to high and I'm getting 45-60 FPS... Definitely disappointing with this.

On the plus side I have a feel for the game now and I'm loving it. So intense.

Great game is great! Can't wait to try the improved server browser after work.

Noticed a nice touch yesterday. Was in a close quarter fight with an assault soldier and he put some rounds into me. I managed to shoot him in the chest with my rifle. While I was slowly dying and sinking to my knees I saw him running up towards my position and then saw the huge bullet wound in his chest. He was slowing down considerably and had a really empty look. His knees gave way and while I was passing out he collapsed. Probably the default look of the character model but it was damn cool anyway.

Have you tried running the UE3 redist? Somehow improved performance for me (X965, 5850).

Remember that it's a beta, most likely played by seasoned vets. From what I understand the single player portion will be tweaked bot matches so it'll work as a tutorial on how to play the game.

Huh, guess I should refresh before replying to a thread.

Anyway, this game is kinda frustrating. Being killed and not know who killed you and where from is confusing. I'd also like some sort of hit marker so I don't have to look to the right hand corner to find out if I killed someone or not. A tutorial would have been nice as well, took me a hour of game time before I realised there were objectives to complete, I thought it was just TDM -_-
Play on relaxed realism settings, you'll get a small peek at the location of your killer (at the time he killed you - he might be long gone though).

Goddammit, GAF, how scalable is this game?!
It seems to be pretty scalable but I can't tell you how it'll run exactly on your machine.

So, it's only one week to release? I'm tempted to buy it but I prohibited myself from buying anything until I finish my backlog. It's not that strict with MP games though.

I doubt they'll fix everything by the time of release.

Running an i7 2600k @ 4.5GHz and an MSI Twin Frozr GTX 580, so tiny bit factory overclocked.

Hm. I really doubt this game really utilizes that extra CPU power. I have the superclocked evga 580 as well so It also has a little extra added juice as well.

Maybe at launch things will look better... :(

Then you should be able to run it maxed out.

You guys seem to be having fun despite the bugs. Maybe I'll pick this up after they release a demo or have a free weekend.

I dont like the maps or the map modes >_<

I like long maps like in the original RO, at least from my mammaries...

Also I hate, despise and want to kill the voices in the game. They sound so stupid and are annoyingly annoying.
