I've never played Policenauts, so I can't vouch for its story quality, but Snatcher's ending cutscene already showed Kojima's ambition for overly long convoluted plottwists and drama.HK-47 said:I guess people forget that Kojima did work on Snatcher and Policenauts. Good cyberpunk adventure games.
I like that idea, using the battle system Tales would be a change of pace...I'd rather a Pokemon MMO for Wii, that's the only way I'll play one of those games. My kids are pokephreaks, they've totally burnt me out of the Pokemon series and anything related. My oldest knows all the stats, how big they are in relation to people, what they evolve to, everything...but like I said, give me an MMO and I'll play with them, or anyone for that matter.Jiggy said:But if spinoffs are up as possibilities, I'd almost unconditionally love a Pokemon game by Namco Tales Studio. Action battle system and all that, though because of the number of Pokemon it would probably end up being too wide in scope to ever happen or too narrow in team selection to really satisfy series fans. (As for me, I wouldn't care; I just want a Tales game with monster designs I actually like, and a party setup where I'd happily play as any possible character.)
I had an idea similar to this once and people didn't think I was being serious.ethelred said:I don't think a good Kid Icarus game needs to be 3D, and nor should it be 3D -- because I'd rather see them make that perfect 2D refined evolution first, where they take those original creative ideas and polish the hell out of them like Super Metroid and A Link to the Past. Put it on WiiWare, or, much preferrably, the DS (since vertical platforming on a two screened system would be a lot of fun). Collaborate with a talented 2D design studio -- ideally one like WayForward (or the old Capcom designers that used to make handheld Zeldas for Nintendo) that's likely to understand the spirit of the originals and work forward from there.

Too bad it will never happen.
And +1 for:
StarFox to Treasure
Something with Tingle to Suda51
Just anything to Platinum Games
Oh and i'd love something à la Electroplankton to Mizuguchi as well.

That aside, Treasure meets Starfox is the chosen one.

Jiggy said:I forgot to mention this earlier, but a Tales of Kirby spinoff would have potential to blow my mind. I've long wanted a Kirby RPG, and the movesets and inputs for many of Kirby's Super Star and Squeak Squad powers are basically ready-made for a Tales game--as are the characters.
And not that co-op in KSS/KSSU isn't already amazing, but it would be a dream having Kirby, Knuckle Joe, Gim, and Bonkers (or most any other permutation of four Kirby helpers/enemies) on the same battlefield with the usual super-fast Kirby music playing while damage numbers fly wild across the screen.

I said that, but with Telltale at the helm. Then after spending the past five or so hours on Another Code Wii I reckon Cing could do a good job with it...Koren said:Let's resurrect old franchises...

How 'bout they just let nintendo make a straight sonic game. Nintendo has taken Mario into 3D they can take Sonic in sucessfully.AniHawk said:Why can't Nintendo and Sega just make a goddamn Sonic the Hedgehog/Mario platformer crossover? It's what I wanted as a kid growing up. Just give it to EAD Tokyo and let them figure it out.

Well, I wouldn't suggest they'd be very much like the anime. Anime Pokemon battles are very movement-oriented while Tales games are hitstun-oriented with lots of combos being started and finished while you or your enemies are locked in place, which I had in mind and I think would work.cartman414 said:A Pokemon game with action packed battles akin to the anime? Sign me up! Though Tales studios would have to study several battles within the series to truly get it.

If they wanted to try pulling off a game where movement is a greater focus and there are more knockback-style moves, making it an experiment for Pokemon and Tales, I'd be fine with that too. I'd just imagine that if they were going to be treading such new ground, they'd need several games of refinements and revisions before fulfilling their potential.

Doooo it.
I mean that instead of moves locking the enemy into place for the next hit, they knock the enemy away so that, with the attacks constantly putting distance between the characters, movement would become more of a focus.cartman414 said:By knockback, do you mean counterattack or parry?
Yeah, all of it would be great but it would be no easy feat. I don't expect that Nintendo would be willing to--nor do I necessarily think it would be smart of them to--devote much of their resources to getting all of it correct in one go. They could just start with a limited selection of 40 or so Pokemon and expand if the concept proved viable from a business standpoint.Because those could be handled by various Pokemon moves timed and applied appropriately. All that, and the factoring in and usage of terrain I've also had in mind.
I guess I've always been partial to the improvisation of the anime battles. I agree that capturing the feel and mechanics would be no mean feat though. What's easy enough to just script isn't always easy to design a gameplay engine around, especially when you have hundreds of Pokemon as well as moves to account for.
