Reinventing the wheel and bullshit rants that have no point

Survival Horror Games*. They simply aren't fun. They typically control like shit even when they don't use the retarded tank controls that plague certain series. The gameplay never becomes fun and the only reason you play is to be scared (which almost never happens to me) and to see what happens next. The are the least fun form of popular video games and only exist to shock and awe or tell a often retarded story.

While the mechanics of genre itself has advanced little, the stories told can range from the excellent tales of morbid horror seen in the Silent Hill games, the retarded japanese ghost stories that the Fatal Frame games dislpay, or the insane and utterly nonsensical biological warfare intended zombie infestations that the Resident Evil franchise is popular for.

The Resident Evil games, while not the originator of the genre, is often seen as it's guiding light. Plagued by the truly awful tank control that they helped establish, these games have seen minimal improvements in the newer iterations. Resident Evil 1 through 3 slowly added control enhancements though almost all of the control progress was thrown aside when Code Veronica was released. The gamecube Resident Evil remake was a greatly enhanced remake of the original, and remained my favorite resident evil game. A load of new content (from enemies and areas) and one of the best atmospheres in a survival horror game rebounded the RE series from the shitpile that I relegated it to back to it's former glory. RE Zero put it right back to a bullshit franchise though...thank gravy that Capcom had the foresight to reinvent the wheel and created a Survival Horror game that manages the impossible. A game with a story that (so far) is pretty good, has a unique mix of action and terror, and is damn fun to play.

Resident Evil 4 is an excellent title, folks...I'd be lying if I said that it isn't dominating my videogame playtime...this game could have easily been rehash # 16 but Capcom took the effort to create a genuinly fun and entertaining Survival Horror game that can compete with other games not only based on it's scares or story but also in where the genre is typically at it's weakest. The graphics also kick ass, the animation is topnotch, the townsfolk have more AI than the entire previous resident Evil franchise, and the voice acting is still the campy goodness that everyone comes to expect from all Capcom games.

Edit: *Don't ask me how I forgot to mention what the hell I was talking about...added Survival Horror Games to the beginning of post

Loved Fatal Frame. Scared the daylights out of me to the point where I couldn't walk my dog at night. Great story, great game. To each his own.

The lack of the first three words made it sound like the title originally included the topic. My bad. Anyway, good to see you know how to poke fun at yourself.

Yeah...I can easily see how you came to that...at least my title made room for the lack of a clear topic to be understandable...i think :b

oh well...off for more

I look forward to playing Resident Evil 4, but I actually enjoy traditional Resident Evil gameplay. Long after the series' shock value had evaporated, I still had fun managing my inventory and conserving ammo. I think of the traditional Resident Evil games as adventures in thrift.

Resident Evil remake is one of the best games I've played this generation... that is all.
