I loved Hyoga as a kid and even now as I'm practically watching it for the first time (I've forgotten everything and never watched it in order) he's still my favorite. I remember hating Shun though. I remember him always bleeding or getting his ass kicked so I thought he was such a wuss. The pink armor didn't help as a kid.

Hyoga I didn't like him that much as a kid but liked him more as I grew older. Shun is okay he's always seen as a wuss but he has some badass moments, being somewhat overly dependant on Ikki is what bothered me of him though.

The armor redesigns helped shun a lot, actually all of them improved for the better. But yeah Andromeda's armor looked outta place with those plate boobs.
To be fair Ikki's my favourite too, even if he's a little cheap in some aspects. Shiryu is probably my least favourite, everything around him was always overly dramatic more than with anybody else.

Ikki is OP nothing wrong with that lol and yeah shiryu and his Poetic monologues plus his girl crying from a waterfall XD

Since you bring up Shun being overly dependant on Ikki I wonder how the guys feel about Seiya and Saori...Kappa

Lol yeah it's quite something. A product of its time I guess. I'm only on episode 18 but it's basically just spamming special attacks. There are some moments of brutality though and the poses are cool as shit. Why can't I find a good gif of POLVO DE DIAMANTÉ?

lol at Hyoga turning into a swan.

What a silly show.

Oh god the plate boobs. You just reminded me that I spent the longest time wondering if he was transgender or something as a kid lmao. When I first saw him I thought it was a girl, but when the other characters started referring to him as "he" I got so confused.

CAW CAW.

What has bothered me about Seiya is how he's been the unquestionable leader of the gang and everybody throws thesemlves in front of the bus so he can be the hero, but I guess it's a thing with this genre.

The secret is when he swiftly arches himself to his right while he's standing on one leg.

Shun was also strong as fuck, his fights would have gotten over in an instant if he didn't always try to make his opponents back down and/or refused to fight because of his extreme pacifism. There were a few times it worked to change his opponent's allegiance. Whenever he was dead set on fighting he was pretty badass.

There was a lot of filler where he needed to be bailed out by Ikki though.

2/3 of Ranma felt like filler same with Tenchi Muyo.

Now YuYu was filler free.

2/3 of Ranma was filler. Starting from midway through the 3rd season most stories are anime original with only a few manga ones here and there. And in spite of so much new content it takes a long time before they start doing anything with it, like bringing back Tofu who disappeared in the manga. They also did odd things like ignoring the new energy blast type techniques learned in the actual manga stories. Ranma never uses them in tv show filler (although he does use them in the movies).

In the beginning they still do some memorable one shots, like the one where Ranma is possessed by a demon and the one where his personality is reversed and he wants to stay a girl, but after a while, it's just a bunch of martial artists with "special attacks" that are just tricks, or random competitions placing the cast against each other.

I think they used the first opening just for a few months no?
I remember watching on 96 and listening to the second one
(and I even had a K7 with Larissa and William song)

That opening was used for the first batch of episodes that went up to Leo (and kept rerunning over and over for a while).

Those guys pretty much vanished the moment they set a foot in Greece. The one in the middle didn't appear to have any special ability whatsoever.
Decades later Omega explained that their Steel cloths, although greatly boosting their power, damage their bodies. Apparently right after they were off screen they fell to the ground and couldn't even move for a while, which is why they didn't help.

MUERE FOLKEN!!!

Filler Asgard saga puts the snorefest Poseidon to shame.

It has some issues, for example how some of the battles were concluded. Don't get me started on that damn frozen waterfall...

I guess science couldn't do artificial clothes.

Seiya was a really charismatic protagonist until he felt for Saori. Everything goes downhill from there.

Lol you guys went all out.

Not only it's pink, but also it has boob plates on the anime version lol. He's the only one who got a girlfriend, though.

This! Toei made him a much worse character than he was on the manga. Like I've said, he won most of his fights with his first attack.

To me it all comes down to backstory and enemy build-up. I still vividly remember Mime, Fenrir (or Phenrill in the latin american dub), Hagen, Siegfried, Syd/Bud and Alberich. Can't remember much of Thor though for some reason. Hilda sucks, I give you that.

From Poseidon I only remember the guy with lance, the guy with the flute and Hyoga's master's master. Did any of them had backstories in the anime besides Hyoga's?

Saga bro from the Poseidon arc probably one of the things I remember the most.

Of the 7 generals, Kanon was the most important(he basically started everything). Isaac wasn't a master he was also a trainee under the Crystal Saint guidance, it's true the others didn't really have all that much of backstory.

Thor was just a guy that would hunt to feed the poor folk of Asgard and that's how he first came in contact with Hilda. Of those guys Syd was probably the one with the least backstory because it all really came as an extension of Bud, other than that his parents decided to keep him instead of Bud there wasn't much about him. It's always been weird to me how Syd's "robe", was all dark when Bud, who was the shadow, was all white, heh.

Yeah, I remember Kanon now. I should give the series a full watch again. It's been too long.

Wait its canon that he is in love with Saori? I mean shit Omega hinted at it lol.

RIP Unicorn who had a thing for Saori since they were kids lol.

Not canon but it was nice that it was made official in that spinoff. However, everyone knows they got a thing for eachother.

Who here wants the Arc System Works treatment done to Saint Seiya? Imagine a game done by these guys with the same love they are pouring into the upcoming Dragon Ball Fighter game.

We only get these "serviceable" generic crap

the problem is that the anime was never very clear how the fights worked; at some points it's very sailor moon-ish, with the saints spamming their attacks over and over with same animation nobody ever interrupted. dragon ball z is p clear on how it works

also some of the most rad stuff in saint seiya doesn't translate well to a fighting game, like ikki vs shaka

or even aldebaran vs seiya and later everyone

Saint Seiya fights were basically purely allegorical by the 12 Houses; it was even more notorious in the anime due to Yamauchi's influence. I don't think Kurumada ever considered the implications of their wacky over-the-top abilities; I mean, everyone is supposed to be fighting at the "speed of light" after awakening the Seventh Sense.

Er no.

A 2D fighting game doesn't really fit Saint Seiya at all to be honest, I'd rather have some sort of RPG with versus mode.

001.jpg

Tell you what, if by some miracle it gets made, just don't buy it, but to say that the quintessential shonen about fighting won't translate into a a quality 2D fighting game is ridiculous.

Also that last Saint Seiya game had decent combat. Bad story. But it was fun enough online and it didn't look bad or anything. Lots of fan service with the attacks. A step up from the previous games, gameplay wise.

That game was mediocre, like someone already told you Saint Seiya deserves better than serviceable.

You are overthinking it, it would work like the Dragon Ball Fighters game, each characters will have their basic punches combos and special attacks in a hopefully "balanced" way and with that nice cell-shaded art Arc System Works can make, that's all.

I guess it depends on who's involved, for example in the battle between Ikki and Shaka if one didn't pay attention it's possible you'd miss the gist of what the hell was going on, in others like say Hyoga vs. Milo it was more clear.

I assume that the battles won't be as bloody as they were in the original, right?

I would suppose so, if you compare the earlier episodes of and the episodes after the sanctuary arc they toned it down quite a notch.

As like everyone around my age (30) who grew up in latam, this is THE defining cartoon of my childhood. I'm quite excited for this.

Man... when Shiryu blinded himself i was legit shook.
Shyriu was the bomb back then. (And Ikki of Phoenix too)

Everyone knows Shiryu is da bess.

See? This guy knows whats up.

lol at Hyoga turning into a swan.

What a silly show.
lol Hyoga

Shyriu: IM A F*CKIN' DRAGON !!
Hyoga: Im a duck lol

Finished the main manga.
What a fucking ending that was. :/
What do I gotta read now to get the FULL EXPERIENCE?

Next dimension is the sequel, Kurumada was forced to end it that's why the hades arc was animated like a decade or more later and ended abruptly. The series would've ended had Toei and Kurumada hadn't had creative issues with the heaven overture movie which is no longer canon.

To people from Mexico (and I guess the rest of Latinoamerica), Saint Seiya is with its glorious dub in Crunchyroll.

I'm rewatching some few episodes and it's pretty crazy, but somehow I am dissapointed because the seventh senses fights are not so amazing like I watched 10 years ago :(

I'm hype by this series, from Netflix I know we will have nice dubs, but I hope there are nice art and amazing animation.

It's a product of its time.. it's only natural you feel that way. However, the emotional beats still resonate for instance: Camus vs Hyoga and Shura vs Shiryu. When that Athena lullaby kicks in manly tears.

The energy attacks were used on the show, just very very VERY sparsely.

I went to school so sad after watching the Shura vs Shiryu fight. It was a really emotional episode for my kid self.

now that I am watching the latam dub again, I realize that watching this without the dub errors won't be the same lol they talk so seriously even if they're saying nonsense 'Caballero de junini' lmao

also no more Jesús Barrero as Seiya :c

I think many of these old dubs are just rife with mistakes. I was watching a bit of the original Dragonball the other day and often it seems like they're making shit up.

It is pretty rare for something to be translated directly from japanese ... it is usualy in french or english.

Which means that it is AT LEAST the third translation of the same thing so stuff can ... change.

At least is not worst than Samurai Pizza Cats that the translators just gave up and created new stuff
