Oh thats lame. Wonder if they will be more faithful to the manga with the black bronze knights if they have them. Seiya vs Shiryu better be epic like it was back then.

Less moments between Shun and Hyoga too. I swear girls loved the show just for those 2 lol.

In Indonesia, Shun was voiced as female :)
So boys loved him

And yeah. The show is actually quite violent now that I think of it.

I grew up in Colombia, so I grew up with the spaniard song. But I gotta admit, Pegasus Fantay is wayyy better. That is one dope opening.

Dude apparently got in on The Voice with it lol

edit:

He even did Soldier Dream. He also sang Dragon Ball and Digimon themes. Anime represent! Seems like he went on to the semifinals. He is a good singer, though I bet a major factor was nostalgia carrying him through lol

LOL was it anime auditions in that show?!

I don't remember that, but I do remember the anime adaptation of Heidi. "¡Abuelito dime tu!" pops into my head whenever I think of anime and Latin America.

OH

MY

GOD!!!

I loved Heidi back in the day, hell, i still have the 45RPM record of that song. Damn.... you hit me right in the childhood. Precious childhood.

SS gaf I dig it! Certain parts might not have aged well but please watch it.. one of the best Shonen anime ever not to mention the goat sanctuary arc.

Btw what's the name of that butler who used to beat up Seiya? Talk about child abuse.

It's weird because there was a faithful ADV Films dub of Saint Seiya but Cartoon Network had a crappy dub made by DIC.

Not that weird. DiC licensed 60 episodes of the series and produced 40 episodes of Knights of the Zodiac in Toronto. ADV acquired home video rights from DiC. In addition to putting out edited DVDs, they were allowed to produce an uncut version with a cast in Texas under the Saint Seiya name. ADV's deal being derived from DiC is why their version ended after 60 episodes. Eventually, DiC's license expired and ADV picked it up from Toei but I guess that was just too late for them to do more.

Discotek's put out sub-only releases of The Lost Canvas and the original movies. Those apparently sold really poorly for them lol.

I get now why it never was a thing in the US but for some reason it never caught on in other English speaking countries like the U.K., Canada or Australia either.

Knights of the Zodiac debuted in English speaking countries all around the same time, so 2003/2004.

In Canada, YTV ran the series, but by then Dragon Ball Z was over and InuYasha was becoming the thing for anime.

My hope:
- Nicely done remix of Pegasus Fantasy. I will accept no other.
- Follow the manga more closely.
- Keep the original bronze saint armor look from the manga and its evolution through out the series.
- Hopefully adapt the manga sequel to saint seiya
- Keep the original japanese names..

It obviously won't be as bloody as the original, but I hope they don't butcher key moments of the first arc, like Seiya vs Shiryu in the galactic tournament or Shiryu's trip to revive the bronze clothes, or Shiryu vs Black Dragon Fight.

I'll keep my hype at moderate levels

They gonna have to cut several stuff, it's only 12 eps :/

I'm on Vol.8 of the manga. Is the anime really that different?
(I only have the manga, a few episodes I watched over 8 years ago, and Soldier's Soul as reference)

Yep, the core story is the same tho.

It's 12 30min episodes covering Galaxy Wars to Silver Saints. That's what, 25 manga chapters? 12 episodes sounds about right especially with them being longer than normal.

Probably will end up just before Aiolia is sent to kill Saori.

I was thinking about the black Phoenix arc and the whole stealing Sagittarius cloth arc.. how would that fit? Unless they make the tournament super short.

Super violent if you into that stuff, the anime is great a bit melodramatic since it's a 80's shonen.

Thats insane! That's 10 (TEN) fucking years after it debuted in Mexican TV (and I assume rest of Latin American TV as well), and we were already at least 5 years behind Japan! 2003 is incredibly late to debut an 80s shonen anime in the US! Just wow! No wonder this show never had a chance!

I remember the first time my parents got to see one chapter with my brothers and me.

It was the episode where
ryuho loses his sight
. They thought it was a bit violent, but overly dramatic. "It's like a telenovela!" my father said. My mother was a bit more worried about what would happen to the guy after that episode
is he going to see again, is he going to keep fighting?

I will watch this in LaTam Spanish (if available), I just can't stand anime in English!

Outside of ranma 1/2 idk what other anime has the goat of fillers.

OT: Since when the OG Saint Seiya is on crunchyroll? I'm shocked.

Here's the thing, Ranma doesn't really have fillers.

The manga turned into an anthology manga halfway through, and that's when it was at its best. All the cool side stories were from the manga.

The actual Ranma fillers (aka anime original) are kinda bad.

It's a shame the manga never got a proper adaptation, it's one of the funniest thing I have ever read in all my life. Those stories are so so good. The anime stopped short. They tried adapting some of the stories with OAVs later on but it wasn't the same really.

This is what I grew up with:

Cavaleiros do Zodiaco

Not sure if someone else posted the Brazilian opening yet, but man I loved that shit so much. I'm trying to remember when it aired...I think it aired right before DBZ? Or was it super late at night? Damn I can't remember.

2/3 of Ranma felt like filler same with Tenchi Muyo.

Now YuYu was filler free.

I remember crying from laughter when watching Ranma. I really would love for a remake of it, though really the anime holds up really well even today. Just like Saint Seiya.

I'm not saying the Ranma anime is bad, but it's a far cry from the manga.

You guys should try it out if you can.

On the other hand, the saint seiya anime was far better than the manga IMO.

It's too pervy for today's audience.. it would've sort of lose its charm in a way.

I think most of my Mexican friends are Californian Mexicans, so I guess maybe they didn't get whichever Mexican channels it aired on. So it's literally just Canada and America that didn't like the show? Hahaha.

When they brought the show to Canada, it was highly edited.
Blood was also turned green in the spots where they couldn't completely edit out a scene.
Due to the editing, some translations aren't correct, making it sound dumb.

It was, until Hades Chapter - Inferno :(

I grew up as a huge fan of the original anime, but never read the manga. Then I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the first Hades episodes, so I bought all the Hades manga volumes and my hype went to the sky for the new anime episodes. Then they were released and well, I was really underwhelmed.

Kurumada really improved over the years, the Cloth designs and pacing were amazing in the last arc.

I listened to the Spanish intro song and realized it's a dub of the French intro composed by the unforgettable Bernard Minet.
It is our gift to the world, this song.
