Remedy now expanded into two teams; two new games in development; has new partner

Remedy announce they are now a two team studio and rather than discussing what kind of games they might be the thread has descended into a Quantum Break bombed/no it didn't thread.

Never change guys and gals, never change :)

What else you thought was gonna happen? MS and Remedy has had a solid relationship for awhile now. I'm not surprised by the reactions here.

It's quite possible they are pulling an insomniac and just wanna get to a wider audience and do different things. Nothing wrong with that, doesn't mean the relationship between them and MS is gone. I mean, they must be doing well if they can increase in size and afford to pay more employees.

Can't wait to see what they are up to. People are looking too much into this.

I didn't help matters. I didn't pick up quantum break even though it's probably up my alley. I may still but it, idk. Remedy may have done better by making their characters more interesting. Maybe I want to be part cyborg and make terminator jokes. They have overdone the average guy doing things shtick. My humble opinion of course. I know many will disagree vehemently.

Why Sony, why not some multiplatform partner so most players can enjoy their games?

Why sony? Why not ms has had them on lock down for how long now? Its time they get with the other players in the industry and lets be honest sonys the best option atm with there current market share. The most players will enjoy their games

As much as I love Remedy...Quantum Break 2 doesn't have to be made by them. I prefer that it was...but this may be a reason why Microsoft owns the IP. QB2 can go on without Remedy. So all is not lost on that franchise...just saying.

I can't say I'd be all that interested in a Quantum Break without Remedy attached, though. :(

Uh... how would a Remedy Sony exclusive allow most players to enjoy the game? Granted it's more than Xbox, but third party is clearly the best option for Remedy, especially with the PC fan base. Remedy does well on Steam.

Considering MS & how they operate, that just seems highly unlikely for at least another 5+ years if ever. Personally, I think we'll never see QB again - heck, the franchise's sole purpose for existing was to pursue the TV/game hybrid concept that MS was into back when they greenlit this thing before the X1 reveal. Thats why we got the TV episodes & what not. Considering how much Xbox has downsized or removed anything to do with TV, I just don't see what value this series has for them anymore.

Why cant it be on playstation and pc? Like SFV its obvious their games dont do well on xbox platforms the numbers speak for themselfs. Who else would bankroll them besides sony at this point?

Interesting, and insightful too.

What about WB? They've shown willingness to publish SP/narrative games like Shadow of Mordor, the Arkham series, and Mad Max, but they also own all of those franchises. Don't know if they really work with outside developers much, though they did with Avalanche on Mad Max.

Good point, I was trying to think of any others too after reading his really good post. I agree with him the focus on SP (which is a good thing!) probably does narrow down the potential more likely publishers. And WB are seemingly fine with single-player games but I don't think they're likely as they've been focused on their own stuff.

Why doesn't RiotPelaaja post here anymore?

Oh, I'm here. With popcorn. Reading reactions to our post.

In all seriousness though, Remedy is in a great place right now. If you are a fan of Remedy's games, you have reason to be excited about the studio's future and the games we got in development. Nobody at the studio wants to take as long to get a game out as we have done before. We know we gotta do better and strive for that.

All the details we can mention for now are in my blog post at our site. So enjoy E3 and the summer :)

I hope their partner is a big third party that can give Remedy's games the marketing they need.

Personally I'm hoping for 2K/Rockstar.

Deep Silver? WB? 2K? I'm sure a good third party publisher would be interested in a developer like Remedy.

Glad to read all this. Just start making sequels to games if you can. We Remedy fans are in pain waiting to know what happens in next in Alan Wake and Quantum Break now!

MAybe I'm reading into it too much but this sounds like going third party publisher.

Still betting on Take Two with Max Payne 4

That's some nice shift. Can't back up the success talk so I'll pick that last short sentence about reviews and go wild with it. :D

Actually, I did that because I find it much more offensive that one would try to use crap like a metacritic average, or whatever else people use these days to say a game isn't good, against what is easily one of Remedy's strongest games, if not flat out their best. Scratch that. Quantum Break is the best game Remedy has ever made. Full Stop. There's no point in stating, as I've seen in other posts, that I'm supposedly responding to a question that was never asked because that nonsense about the game's reviews is being used directly as a tool to support the game as a failure.

@CosmicQueso, I'm not using reviews, but the game's quality nbased on what I played to define its success. They nailed exactly what they set out to do, and they did it even better than I thought they would as someone who has the utmost confidence in Remedy's ability as a dev. If everybody goes around defining success solely based on crap like metacritic, or even just on sales then this industry is in trouble. I see quite clearly these days what kind of game design is being rewarded by reviews, and it's largely (although not 100% of the time I will admit) checkbox style game design. Just check this one off the list, and that one, then that one, and you've got yourself a winner. People even gave the game shit for not having MP. There is every bit still a place for games the way Remedy likes to make them, and no fucking way will I ever define that success based on NPD. The way I see it a shit ton of people missed/are missing out on one of the best games I've played in years. That's entirely their loss.

This takes me right back to Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Neither lit up sales charts or were particularly well received by many reviews, but I'll be damned if they aren't still easily 2 of the best games to come from the last gen of consoles. Those games were successes, not failures, in my eyes, so what I'm saying now with Quantum Break is consistent with what I've always said about games that I consider to be great.

What I dislike about this news is that potentially Alan Wake and QB is done for.

I hope Ms/Phil address this. They can't expect gamers to keeping supporting their new IPs if they are going to drop them after the first try. Specially narrative focused games that leave the fucking plot in the open for a sequel.

Why would I want a QB without Remedy's writing or gameplay though?

Unless they already have everything written, then I wouldn't care.

That would be great. Personally I think a bit of marketing plus Remedys skill and a good PC release on Steam and they'll be great sales wise.

Which is really what I'm hoping for, for them to find huge success.

While new ventures into AW via other mediums is great..... We all still badly need another Alan Wake game. ;)

I know you can't say anything but I just want to vent here :)

How can you be working on two new unnanounced games and one of them isn't Alan Wake? I'm finding this news very difficult to deal with, has Remedy considered operating a helpline for those that are finding this news difficult to comprehend ;)

And i should also add that I'll be there on day one for both of these games, no matter the hardware it appears on or what kind of game it is.

Puha having some fun lol.

I’m surprised nobody has thought we are working with Nokia. Now that’d be a surprise :D"

"Thomas Puha ‏@RiotRMD
No, we are not working on Max Payne 4. Though, that would be pretty awesome :D"

"Thomas Puha ‏@RiotRMD
No, we are not working on mobile games"

"Thomas Puha ‏@RiotRMD
Also, developers are FRIENDS with one another. We can visit other studios and that doesnt mean we are collaborating. Stating the obvious.

So no Max Payne and no Sony game, probably.

I'm just stating facts, not what I feel about it. I want a QB2...the damn story in that game...I need to know what happens at the End of Time!

okay fine

Sony is going to let Remedy work with the Uncharted IP now that Naughty Dog is done with it.

If anybody is going to take over that franchise...is that why Remedy has been so friendly with Naughty Dog as of late?
Would explain why they're not willing to disclose this new 'partner'. Sony want to make the announcement themselves!

That's fine and all, but what's offensive about saying a game bombed? Even more so when it actually did? And the argument was about that, not reviews. All the replies to your comment were about the game selling poorly, you just took the only thing you could cling on and completely sidetracked.

I don't mind though. I just found it funny.

You're offended by people not agreeing with your opinion? Metacritic is an aggregate of opinions with a number score attached to it. Nothing more. And people's opinion on the quality of the game is partly why it didn't set the charts on fire. It's not like that's some big secret.

I honestly have no clue what you are trying to achieve with these statement of yours. I'm thrilled that you thought the game was great, i'll likely pick it up when it's <10$ on PC. Then again, i'm talking to the guy that thought Ryse was an absolute masterpiece.

I'd love AW2 but I'll grab whatever they release next on whatever platform it happens to be on. Remedy are awesome 😎

Am I the only one that wishes Remedy, after Alan Wake, would try to make a more serious grounded game rather then an "action" game?

I looooooooved the atmosphere of Alan Wake and the storyline. The setting and everything was top notch.

However it feels like Remedy just wants to shoe-horn in "Max Payne" action elements into every-single-game they make.

I think Alan Wake would have been a far more interesting and fun game if they ditchedt he reliance on "action" elements and instead focused it more on an exploration/narrative focus. Giving you a twin peaks style adventure game where you could explore the entire town and areas, talk to npc's, go through the story.

They could still have danger and elements you need to escape from, just don't turn it into an "action game."

I hope in the future they might try this route.

Sounds good man.

...You likely can't answer this, but any chance Remedy games might turn up on a Sony console in the future?

If it's not Alan Wake 2 then meh. Was super hyped for QB and was left a little bit disappointed.

It's good, but it's no Alan Wake.

Again you are claiming something subjective like your opinion as truth.

IMO the game has a lot of flaws (in gameplay for example) that puts it below others 3rd shooters I player... I really prefer the old Remedy games over it.

Now something you can't put your opinion over it are sales... it had bad sales and neither MS or Remedy can de happy about it.
There is no success selling bad... c'mon.

Who was their old partner? Does that mean Microsoft? Was there anything there apart them making Xbox games?
