Remedy was ‘unsatisfied’ with FBC: Firebreak’s launch sales but says it has ‘a solid game to build on’

I think the issue is more that this didnt even reach over 5000ccu on Steam alone.
Snapshots above show it didnt even hit 2,000.

I checked Steamdb now. 10 people are playing. 24 hour peak is 20.

If FBC had a MP mode that has 12 players (like COD 6 vs 6), it wouldnt even fill a lobby.

Yes that's what am saying. Even if it had 2000ccu at THIS POINT it would still be extremely sub par and an incredibly tough battle to regain players.

Never even heard of this game. The art looks terrible. Not sure how they think they're gonna "build" on this.

I dont think anyone heard about it. I think there was one trailer I barely remember. Next thing you know it's on GP and PS+ and only got 1M gamers to try it. Steam and console sales are probably in the 1,000s, not 100,000s or more.

"Despite the rocky launch, we believe we have a solid game to build on"

looks at SteamDB current player count

15
. Fifteen players are playing this game at the moment.

That is a... really solid game to waste money on. Oh, sorry, to "a solid game to build on".
I think most people don't even know it exists.

They should have made a mystery ghost hunt type co op game like that popular one, not some generic shooter with garbage shooting. Would've fit the setting much better and could deepen the lore.

Remedy can't make a legitimately great gameplay loop to save their lives, I have no idea why they thought they could make some banger MP game. They can't get away with covering mediocre-at-best mechanics with flashy window dressing in that space and that's literally their entire brand.

Why does this shit keep happening? Are big devs/publishers just that clueless about what their audience wants?

Maybe the genre is not saturated? Maybe we have a chance at Fortnite money/success??

Let's try like all the other ones

No matter how good the gameplay is, when the character art is that bad, nobody wants to play it. You'd be better off with generic clothing or police uniforms. You can just tell the women who designed these characters dress like the driver from the Magic School Bus series.

Control is an interesting ip, I really enjoyed how the FBC is basically the SCP foundation, they should lean even more into that going forward.

This could've been a cool game, they should've had SCP-esque Mobil Task Force units that are designed to combat specific anomalous situations.

Instead they botched it so terribly that nobody played it, even when people could play it for "free" via GP or ps+.

It probably needs to be F2P. I imagine many Remedy fans aren't subscribing to PS+.

But to my surprise I heard a co-worker who plays PS5 online with friends were pretty hyped about it.

For players who loves shooting and co-op online games, it's possible they will enjoy it

What the fuck? Max Payne 1 and 2 were right there as the potential industry standard for awesome TPS and while Control is not a perfect game, it's miles ahead of whatever cover shooter adjacent crap is big these days. Bad take! Remedy struggles with marketability and potentially other stuff if people want to be wrong, but their gameplay loop has been STRONG since day one.

I've passed over this game a dozen times and had no idea it was made by Remedy nor part of the Control universe. Even though it looks like the most generic shit out there, I'm gonna have to install it and give it a whirl...as I've never played a Remedy game I didn't like. That being said, whomever was in charge of art direction and marketing for this game needs to be let go. Just shockingly bad looking given the pedigree. Was this their swing at using AI?

Someone above(now banned) compared this game to Redfall, and I was genuinely shocked to see that Redfall had more people playing on Steam the last 24 hours than this. How is this even possible???

I wonder why they decided to do this in the first place, they're a studio who have an extremely solid record of making excellent single player, story-based games and seemed sensibly ran.
Anyway, hope it's not been too damaging and they focus on what they do so well.

Just wanted to highlight due to these posts. The game did not fail because people never heard of it. I heard of it, I played it, I refunded it.

It failed because it was shit, the game has zero redeeming qualities and the gunplay is some of the worst I have experienced in gaming ever. I have played tech demo's friends made with better feedback on the guns.

Just play any other coop shooter instead, it will be better.

I gave the thing a shot. It didn't even work when I tried it. I had a laugh at an absurd amount of frozen enemies in the restroom, immediately died without explanation and shut it off. Didn't pay for the thing so that's about it for me.

It's a saturated market.

Man this right here is the problem. They built the game in a vacuum, did not do ample research or playtesting, and they released trash and it shows…Remedy are far too stubborn for the extremely modest successes they've had. They aren't at the highs of Max Payne anymore. They need to just get a fucking grip, take the L and fucking focus on the one good game they've done in recent years and build on it with Control 2. Screw all this other shite.

MP1 and MP2 came out more than 20 years ago and they've lost the plot since in my opinion. Those games were revolutionary at the time. Alan Wake had shitty, repetitive combat, encounters and level design, Quantum Break's ganeplay was lost somewhere between the hours of movies, Alan Wake 2 is absolutely braindead and their worst yet and Control majorly suffered from encounters consisting of the game randomly spawning hordes of enemies. Control also didn't control well, ironically, imo so I wouldn't call that "legitimately great" either.

Anything after MP has absolutely been mediocre-at-best gameplay wise to me. If you can play AWII and honestly tell me that's a "STRONG" gameplay loop, I don't know dude. Their games have been hard carried by their wacky, zany Remedy-verse thing for ages.

PS: I think Control is a cool game. I rated it a 7/10 personally, I just think again that's the best they've mustered since MP and it's not GREAT in my book. The environmental destruction, level design and lore are the most fun part, the combat mechanics are killer in theory but I never thought it felt particularly good to actually play.
