Tvshowsondvd has a glowing review for the set:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/sitereviews.cfm?ReleaseID=3920

I haven't laughed this hard since I sat down and watched The Office, but Arrested Development has a different kind of humor. It's the perfect blend of awkwardness, weirdness, and pure genius. Some of the lines almost made me wet myself, and I think I'll lose it if I ever hear someone say "annyong" in real life. I decided to re-watch the pilot episode while I was taking breaks from writing this review, and now I'm up to episode 4, for the second time. You don't understand - I never re-watch a TV series, especially when I have other stuff to watch. The best part is the show was even funnier the second time around. I was picking up on jokes I missed the first time, and I desperately wanted to watch more (okay, don't tell anyone, but I'm watching episode five after I'm done this paragraph).

Season 2 starts November 7th, so this will give people who missed episodes (like me) time to catch up. And if you don't want to buy the set, FX is having a 10 episode marathon Saturday at 12pm.

Damn, it's too bad Amazon's not selling this for $14.99 like those other Fox season 1s.

Still, it's not bad at $27.99 at Amazon and Best Buy. Might even be a bit cheaper if Costco carries it.

At least it doesn't have the usual HBO $99.99 MSRP. I'd like to get The Sopranos box sets, but there's no way I'm going to spend $65-$80 for 13 episodes and maybe two commentaries.

It's on Fox.

And it's about fifty times better tha CYE.

I understand that.

Sorry, I can see how my post was a bit misleading. My point is that for a season box set, it's cheap. Much cheaper than the HBO box sets. FOX used to overprice their box sets (X-Files), and I'm glad that they've been reducing them in price. I think HBO would be wise to do that, as they'd sell more.

I need no reminder. I 've got 60 bucks worth of gift certificates at best buy ready and waiting for tomorrow.

Oh and CYE is overrated. Larry just isnt that funny.

This DVD set rocks.. I've watched the show since the beginning, and it's nice to see the show in widescreen (I don't have HDTV). I've only listened to the commentary for the first ep, but it's great... Love the extended first episode. I'm about half way through the first season on the set, and already looking forward to the next season...

I just watched 5 episodes today. Everyone I was watching it with were laughing their asses off. Especially the return policy of the pet shop joke.

This show is so damn good.

I still love the set up in the pilot episode where the events go into motion where Tobias ends up going on that gay pirate themed boat!!! :lol

I missed some episodes during the season ( I didn't know there were 22!) and now I can see them all! I'm on episode 8 right now, and once I'm done I'll move onto the extras!

so is it really that good?

i mean...is it as good as freeks and geeks?

<edit>

just saw your comment....are you serious!?!? its better than the great great great graet freeks and geeks (probably one of my favorite tv series ever next to goodtimes).

wow.......

what the hell is it about? I like the pricing of it, and ive heard elsewhere that its good, but i havent seen any episodes (i dont have cable).

tell me more...im interested.

peace

dude freaks & geeks & arrested development really can't be compared. anyone saying that AD is better than F&G was never a real fan of F&G.

AD has a thread going through the episodes, which puts it head and shoulders above other sitcoms out there. the jokes are merciless and non-stop. finally, the whole cast really, really fits well together. whoever did the casting for this show is brilliant!

so what is it about... it's about a rich, fucked up family that has their father thrown in jail at the very beginning of the series - very Enron-esque. It's got the "feel" of a documentary, sort of. and to top it all off, it's narrated by an uncredited Ron Howard - cousin fuckin' Opie!

yo, I'm not even essing around. just go out and cop the damn set! :D

A great DVD set. I'm about halfway through disk two, and I can't get enough of it. So good, so very very good. Also, one of the best things with the show is that not only is it hilarious, clever, and very smart, it also has a lot of heart. But not sickingly so, just subtlely. Can't wait for the next season.

Let's see... Basically, it's the story of an extremely dysfunctional family trying to function. To explain more than that would be a disservice to the extremely well rendered characters (that manage to transcend their caricature origins). The show is built around watching their peculiarities unfold on screen, with always-hilarious results. Also David Cross (Mr. freakin' Show!) is in it! Jeffrey Tambor (Larry Sanders) too! Portia de Rossi (HOT)! The cast is just plain spot-on. Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar directed about 5 episodes as well, all of which stand out.

PS: I am a F&G fan, and while it's true that the two shows are very different, I can easily say I enjoy(ed) Arrested Development more. Plus, AD just started! It came out of the gates so strong, the potential for future seasons is enormous. Can't say that about F&G, unfortunately.

Aw man, I gotta disagree. The look on Nick's face at the very end of the series could've fueled another season alone! Millie could've been developed further! Was Daniel going to be a hard core RPG'er? What about Haverchuck's mom & Biff? There was so much more there, but the show was never given the chance to go further. Be lucky that AD is getting a second year, because before the emmy win, there wasn't a chance in hell it would be back.

They're both good shows! No need to shit on one to praise another.

I totally agree! What I meant was while F&G could've continued based on plot, it didn't based on the stupidity of the suits at NBC. Meanwhile, AD is still on the air and potentially going strong, although it was on the ratings-precipice nearly every episode last season. That Emmy win should at least keep it on the air this season, though. Not to mention the Simpsons lead-in.

first episode was eh...ok

second show is slowly starting to hook me.....

jobe is TOOOO funny.

but while watching, i cannot see how this could ever be "Better" than freaks and geeks.

<edit....its starting to get hilarious but the whole
cousin wanting to kiss the other cousin thing is disturbing the fuck out of me
>

why are people comparing freaks and geeks with ad? one was a quirky drama and one is a absurdist, satirical take on sitcoms

oh wait, it's probably because THEY BOTH ROCK

This show looks great in widescreen. I've only made it just past the first disc, but I ended up watching the first four episodes again with friends who came over, and I think they're fans of the show now..

The commentary on the extended pilot is a great listen. It's really funny but still informative. I also like how there's a couple uncensored moments in the extended pilot, like when the magician says "Fuck off, traitor" to Gob.

My favorite character has got to be George Michael. His expressions and panic moments are hilarious.

I just finished watching all the episodes. I still think the funniest scene happened earlier on when
Buster goes off about his Mom and they bleep the whole thing out
. Just about every episode was good too. Can't wait for next season.
