Report: Halo Combat Evolved Remake is being developed by Abstraction A Virtuos Studio

Oblivion remake was garbage. Expecting the same here.
That can't be true, their entire studio is obviously hard at work fixing the Oblivion remake issues.

/s
Oh yeah, the excellent and so trustfull Virtous.
I feel pity for Halo fans. They are in for decades worth of waiting for patches to fix the game.

This isnt Virtuos Games the guys who worked on Oblivion.
This is being done by Abstraction Games......the Co-Development Studio of Master Chief Collection, Dune Awakening and Baldurs Gate 3.
Virtuos Global recently.....not really, acquired them and now "forces" them to identify as Abstraction A Virtuos Studio.

The absolute state of remasters has me glad that I've been building up my collection of older games - being able to conveniently just play the original instead has been a blessing after so many disappointments. I'm not giving Virtuos a chance, and I think that's fair.

So "Halo Studios" is a bunch of purple-haired diversity hires who don't actually know how to do any of their own work, then.
It's the case with a lot of Microsoft studios.

Rare is basically a ghost studio at this point, so was The Initiative (fake studio), and now 343. They don't have the capacity to develop games they're just figurehead pretending to manage intellectual properties. Basically Microsoft outsource the full dev but still pretends it's some kind of collaboration. To my knowledge it's the only publisher that does things like this.

Can they force them to identify as compotent developers who release solid products?

Holy... shit.. what a bad idea

so lets summarize

1. Not a remake - using the original game logic means it is remaster... (EXCACLTY like in MCC - just another time..)
2. Not made in house - but by a "support" studio
3. Made in UE5 - so stutter and performnace problems are for sure

Yes the people that approved this... should perhaps work in another industry

I truly feel for the younger kids growing up in this era with absolutely nothing to be excited about.

I've got a 13yo son. He's excited all the time and spends more time gaming than I did when I was his age. Him and his friends are just into completely different stuff than us older folks are into. He spent the last 4 years being excited about Fortnite and Roblox stuff. There's also a lot of mish-mash where memes inspire Roblox games, which everyone is making YouTube videos about, then those videos spawn new memes that work their way back into the games. They've got their own thing going.

He has played some other games like Super Meat Boy, Cuphead, Castle Crashers, Sonic Mania, some VR stuff, etc. He also sees me playing more traditional games, but he's not as interested in isolated, single-player story games. He's usually approaching games more as a platform for social hangouts with friends.

yes, the anniversary remaster ran pretty poorly with its stutter issues and it was using the pc version as a basis which had issues with its ui compared to the original xbox (plus missing effects in classic graphics mode)

On top of that, I hated the artstyle. They made the backgrounds busy and darker with that blue filter, and enemies frequently blended in making focusing difficult.

Whenever i play cea on mcc (which performance wise runs waaay better) i just stick either classic graphics for the aforementioned reasons.

Halo 5 also had similar issues, too much shit happening on screen at once with overly complicated designs in the background

Sorry.
Fake screenshot.
I was just mocking the expected future outcome of yet another twin-engine remaster, if indeed that's what they're doing.

That framerate graph is actually from the Xbox One version of Cyberpunk. I just cropped it out and slapped it over the top of a Halo CE Anniversary screenshot.

Yep it was the worst kind of remake:
- all of the archaic mechanics intact
- all of the old bugs still there + some new issues and crashing after longer sessions (played on XSX)
- new graphics at the expense of game running like shit and not holding stable fps (again, based on console version)
- no major changes / new content for those who know the original well
- full price

You know what the scary thing is? For a fake, Thats honestly not far off from the actual performance of Halo CEA, it got quite a bit of flak for frame issues when playing in the new graphics (at least the original 360 version anyway)

This explaisn the moronic dual-engine idea.

BTW Oblivion Remake runs like trash even on PS5 Pro, so you can imagine how well this is going to work for an intensive shooter like Halo on base machines.

it will run like shit, have a fucking sprint button, stutters, crappy looking lumen...

I already hate it and I haven't seen a single frame of it.

Saber Interactive has 2 amazing engines, AND THEY ALREADY MADE 2 FUCKING REMASTERS of Halo...
Swarm Engine, Saber 3D Engine... either of them are vastly preferable to UE5

Seems like the actual Virtuous studio isn't the one from MGSD, but from the MCC and Dune: Awakening. The former gives me hope because it was when 343i contracted outside help that MCC actually started to be fixed because 343i are the worst developers in the industry.

With that said, the dual-engine approach is the current fad, and 343i loves to chase fads. Halo Infinite originally tried to use a "one take" camera approach after God of War 2018 was heavily praised for it. They eventually abandoned it despite all the concessions made for it. They turned Halo Infinite into an open world not because it fit Halo, but because that's what everyone was doing. It destroyed everything good about Halo's pacing. The sheer amount of cut backs made to accommodate their open world time of day changes borders on insanity when it ultimately proved to be pointless. Doing a dual-engine approach screams Halo Studios is still 343i and is still chasing fads. They don't have a fucking clue what they're doing. I look forward to a Halo Remaster that looks like a generic "Halo REMADE in UE5 ULTRA REAL GRAPHICS" YouTube video and runs like dogshit on top of the line hardware.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Microsoft....it's like you're looking down a checklist at all the ways you can destroy what little bit of credibility you still possess and just chicky checkin them boxes all the way down with a big fuckin smile on your face.

This is becoming more fascinating than sad at this point, and I kinda wanna see where this dead engine plane lands.
so, microsoft crash simulator?...
