Report: Nvidia is cancelling RTX 50 Super Series because of AI demand

eports of 3GB GDDR7 shortages have left leakers uncertain about the future of the Super refresh. One source even claims that "the Super series is cancelled". The issue of skyrocketing DRAM prices will also make the exisiting GPU models more expensive to manufacture.

Consumers are already feeling the effect of rising RAM costs; PC Gamer reports that memory prices have double since the summer. Much of the blame is being placed on the AI industry eating up supply. Tech giants OpenAI announced a collaboration with memory manufactuers Samsung and SK last month, "targeting 900,000 DRAM wafer starts per month" – that's reportedly 40% of current global DRAM output.

RTX 50 series Super GPUs might be delayed, or even canceled, as 3GB GDDR7 shortage reported

All the gamers in the world both PC and Console need to get together and build our own chip factory, for games hardware only.
Everyone buy a share and everyone gets chips, AI servers will get shipped all the defective chips to mix into their normal stock forcing them to waste time sorting it out.

Got a 4080, nothing I saw in the 5000 series mattered to me. Most of the cool DLSS features are backwards compatible, unless you want multi-frame gen.

There has never been a time worse for buying higher end GPUs than now, and Nvidia's value sucks at most price points. AMD 9070XT is down to $600 for mid-tier, and Intel B580 (12gb vram card) for $250 is still good value. Both their upscalers are comparable to DLSS, and Optiscaler lets you inject those upscalers even in games that only support DLSS.

Riding this 4090 til the wheels fall off.

It's a good thing this is coinciding with no good AAA graphically demanding games coming out at all.
My 4080 and my wife's 2080 feel like family at this point, and though I'm fine with mine, she's feeling the age of her's.

Fuck it though, we're not buying into this fucked up market. The bubble will burst eventually, and I'm nothing if not patient.

Sticking with my 4080 Super till something with 24-32gb at acceptable price too.
I do have a 4070 Super on my sub computer, and will also stick with it - I think I need a better TV or monitor than GPU at this point.

A 9070XT isn't a bad buy at $600 as it basically caught up in performance 5070TI (and even overtook in non heavy RT games).

I think I need it to go a smidge lower than that, but I do appreciate the information broseph. I am actually looking to upgrade my wife's GPU at some point as a surprise when she comes home, so I might have to go with that option, thanks man.

What is this? Communism?

I'm still rocking my RTX 3090. The only reason I bought it was because used GPU prices were through the roof, and I was able to sell my RTX 2080TI for $1200, and I got an RTX 3090 for $1500 MSRP (plus tax) as I got it at my local Best Buy on a restock day. GPU prices are ridiculous, and they're even more ridiculous when you see how much profit NVIDIA makes.

Yeah, unfortunately it's unlikely these will go lower any time soon considering the craziness around flash chips pricing.

My 3070Ti has been holding up well overall along with my 5800XD. Was thinking about waiting on the the rumored 24 Gig 5070 Series but alas not if true

Yeah, I am legit questioning my decision to trade in my $710 9070XT for an $830 5070 Ti. I mainly went with Radeon as I wanted to use Bazzite/SteamOS on my living room PC, but the HDMI 2.1 issue in Linux made me switch back to Windows and I decided at that point I'd spend a little extra and get a 5070 Ti.

Now that recent benchmarks are out, it seems like the 9070XT had a much better value.

If the HDMI 2.1 issue is solved on Radeon, I will switch back so I can run a Bazzite/SteamOS build on. I'd consider CachyOS since I've heard great things about it.

If true, really glad I bought a 5080 earlier this year.
When/if China invades Taiwan? That's going to make this and the Bitcoin GPU drought look like the good ol' times.

Does SteamOS not work on nVidia? Doesn't work because of the closed source driver?

I dont think SteamOS works, but Bazzite is identical to SteamOS and does the same thing.

Yes, Bazzite does work and as long as you avoid DX12 games (no easy task) you can get comparable performance to Windows.

There's not a single game my 1660 hasn't yet been able to play.

What's the highest requirement game today?

Hopefully they'll just release the 6000 series A.I empowered card for the rich folks who has money to burn that's powerful enough to get 120 fps 240 fps. 4k, 8k or whatever with high price tag like over 1,000 dollars, 2000 dollars etc And make the price of the current 16gb cards like the 5060ti 16gb cards cheaper to the 400 dollar range or lower range for us 1080p 60fps users. Better yet have the 6060 ti 16gb be a non A.I card that's more than 10% stronger than a 5060ti 16gb while only costing 400 dollars or lower.

Still using my 1070 8gb vram for nearly 10 years since I can play the stuff I like on it still but would need to upgrade for GTA VI, Elder Scrolls VI, and some other games in 2027 or maybe late 2026.

I wasn't going to upgrade for another two years, but when things started looking like they could go to shit like this, I skipped right to it and built a whole new machine. It was a bit of a gamble but seems like I made the right move. Who knows what the landscape will look like 2 years from now.
