Resident evil 4, PS2 best graphics??

So, we have seen the trailer and screenshot, will the ps2 version of Resident evil 4 have the best graphics (for ps2) ever?

Which can compare? MGS3, God of war?

I think MGS3 still stands ahead of it...

The lighting effects are much more impressive and the overall polish is just incredible (not that RE4 isn't polished).

MGS3 in game impressed far less than RE4 in game. Dithering in RE4 won't change that, either.

MGS3 was stunning in the real time cut scenes, but once it jumped to gameplay the visuals dropped dramatically.

RE4 suprised me in the amount of attention to detail and polish the game had, I would have thought the only ones who would go this far was Team Kojima but RE4 still amazed the hell out of me. There is a faq of the little details in gamefaqs site.

:lol The only bad thing about MGS3 is the camera angle. The RE4 PS2 ports lacks lighting and shadowing that made the GC version so great and there are areas in MGS3 that look vastly superior compared to anything I have seen in RE4 PS2.

How about some MGS3 shots? The lighting looks almost "HDR-like". I think the new camera should result in a much more impressive MGS3 experience. The overhead camera really short changes the environmental detail present in the game...

There are also things like animation the put RE4 was over MGS3. Everyone in RE4 moves naturally and reacts naturally to things that happen. Combat in MGS results in some of the most awkward animation I've ever seen.

MGS 3 looks worse than RE4 as we are talking about actual game shots right? And RE4 looks very rough graphically... the IQ in the GC version atleast is pretty weak.

There is no doubt that MGS3 is one of PS2's best, but I'm glad that the RE4 port is turning out so well, people would have had you believe it was like the worst thing ever, could always use more brilliant excellent looking games on PS2.

As for best graphics, I can hardly choose the best ones as devs have such different apporoaches to their visual appeals, something like ZOE2, MGS3, RE4, GOW, SH3 all have such different ranges.

ok buddy we are talking about graphics here not animation.

And yeah God of War is really amazing especially the Challenge of Hades lava area.

More like a post apocalypse nuclear effect if anything. HDR should not look like this, or I shure hope not as it looks way un-natural.

Playing through the GameCube version of the title, if Capcom have done it any justice, then PS2 owners are in for a treat.

Some areas -of which i've never even seen pics of online- are INCREDIBLE in RE4 and i would be surprised if ANY game has surpassed them visually. The fire effects especially and sense of grandure, especially for a fairly linear game is unsurpassed for me.

God of War?

Those are over-dramatic, that's all. The one shot is during a massive explosion. The two graveyard shots are intended to have an almost dream-like appearance. You know the game doesn't always go that crazy with it.

As for now the best engine on PS2 is God of War's.
Techinically everything else is behind (even the other top PS2 titles like MGS3).

I think Grandia 3 needs a mention just because of the amazing in-game art.
I still say that if any justice was done during the porting process then RE4 looks the best.

really you have to play it yourself to experience the greatness. those pics dont do it justice. everything is so beatiful.

the cutscenes however was so-so, not so nice as the rest of the game (im not talking about the cgi).

Is that running widescreen with progressive scan? The game looks really good on widescreen alone! You should have taken some pics of the challenge of hades level
No, my capture card only supports s-video and composite. Those are s-video shots (just like the MGS3 shots).

The cutscenes suck. Why? They chose to simply use a poorly encoded video clip of in-engine visuals. The compression artifacts and lower framerate look ugly when playing the game in 480p. :\

People showing and pointing out different games like Kingdom Hearts 2, Gran Turismo 4, MGS3, God of War, along side RE4 pretty much hammers in how different these games graphical appeals are, none of them seem to over take in the graphics department in any complete way.

Ace Combat 4 also looks very good, the only problem with the game is low res ground textures :(

Can't wait to see what namco does next gen.

Regarding PS2's RE4 light and shadowing, did anyone make any comment on the difference at hand at the conference? I mean if you look at the first set of PS2 RE4 pics then the latter set, it looks like it changed a lot, the biggest difference was the constrast looks more "proper" to the original RE4.

There are gameplay locations in MGS3 that look just beautiful. Yes, it's cutscenes are really great looking sometimes, but saying that's the only impressive thing about it is to shorthand it severely. GoW also looks just amazingly good in windescreen+prog scan. RE4 is still a pretty big unknown on PS2. We have no idea how some of the more complex efects and locations have translated over. The trailer however looked very promissing.

How lame is this?

Ehh... I never really understood GAF's policy. Talking about warez OSTs is A-OK while talking about ROMs is bad.

Oookay.

But OSTs cost real money, just like games. And yet we got links! to zipped mp3 files.

This is the first time I'm commenting on that issue. It isn't clear, that's all.

The "scans policy" is also weird. I live in Europe. I can't buy Japanese mags. But GAF allows for Japanese mags scans. Hooray! Well I can't buy US mags either. GAF disallows US mags scans, sorry :(

US > Japan > Europe?

What's even WORSE is that GAF allows for European scans. I could feel treated like shit for that, but I'm not.

In my opinion: everything should be banned. OSTs, ROMs, and scans.

well said borys especially on the magazine issue. Some of the mods are too strict! Last month I got banned for doing absolutely nothing! They banned me for a week or so.

RE4 looks great, but thetere are too many obvious technical "shortcuts" in the game for it to really impress me.

If the end product turns out as a good as the gc version. PS2 RE4 would easily be the best looking game not just on PS2 but on any system period. I know its very subjective but I think Re4 is the best looking game overall this gen.
