It literally would do what I think though. The highest selling games in the series were third person OTS before 1st came along, and it took a new 3rd person OTS entry to pass up RE4-6 in revenue. 7 and 8 still haven't managed to, while RE2make passed them all up to take top spot (and RE4 is selling even faster than 2, so it'll take top before long).
Also, the highest selling entre items on BK menus are almost all burger derivatives. You get 4 variations of whoppers in the top 10 before you even get chicken nuggets, and then cheese burgers and bacon whoppers before you get a single chicken sandwich. After that chicken sandwich, you get 4 more burger derivatives rounding out the top 15. I'd say they ship out waaaaaay more burger derivatives, because that's what people love and that's what brings in the most revenue.
Now apply that logic to a game developer that puts out one game a year or bi-yearly. It takes millions of dollars, thousands (if not tens of thousands) of man hours, and 3-5 years to develop a single game. It makes more sense to give people what they want on those rare releases and maximize revenue. That means going back to third person (especially after 2 and 4 became the highest and fastest selling games in the series). Your logic only works if they simultaneously release 1st person and third person games so people have a choice between multiple or both (like the sandwiches).
