Resident Evil 5 beta artwork and storyboards

Some of that stuff would have been cool in the game. But still a great game as it is. A much better game than RE4 despite what the hive mind retards here on gaf say.

If you look at the previous sketches you can see Jill and Sheva are in the plane piloting it.

The only thing I really wish they would have kept from the sketches was a scene where Jill fights alongside Chris. I think it was a big missed opportunity that Jill didn't do anything in the game after she was saved.
 
Resident Evil's hook was always the suspense/atmosphere. When you take that from it and just make it a standard action game, then you have to compare it to other action games. And in that scenario, it comes up short.

Game sucked.
 
Reminds me how mediocre the final boss battle really was. Interesting to see the ideas the developers went through before they started setting code, or at least the basic code. I still believe that Jill would have been better served as actually being a villain. Meh.

Hmm, I think I notice the same now. It's still likely Sheva was in the plane too though, on the last sketch you can see Chris and Sheva walking out of the plane (probably a part of the epilogue. There's also a sketch earlier where you see Chris and Sheva fighting Wesker together with the bomber in the background. It seems obvious to me that they planned Sheva to be a huge part of the game (and probably an AI teammate) before they decided to add coop.
 
It's a great game as it is but these other storyboards scenarios would have added a lot. Well, I'm sure they can muster up something even better for RE6 or whatever name they'll brand on it.
 
what pisses me off is that they killed off
Wesker
in this weak shit instead of a real RE game.. co-op is probably to blame

Meh, I enjoyed the game for what it was, I think the horror aspect of it turned drastically to action since 4.

The closest part I felt to a horror game in RE5 was in mercs mode on the last level.

The
lickers
was a great part as a shock/surprised event but iono I didn't get that feel of being scared lol until I played on that level. it was so many ways of the "zombies" to creep up around you and so many views that you saw them so it kinda gave me the paranoid effect of not really being safe but that may have just been becuz of the mercs mode.

Um yeah I see what you mean now. The Prison level is the most hectic in terms of enemies.
 
some of that stuff looks pretty cool. maybe we'll see stuff like that in RE 6!

RE 5 was probably the most disappointing game of the decade for me. the game didn't suck complete balls or anything but it just didn't meet or surpass RE 4 in any category BUT graphics (where is obviously obliterates RE 4 from a pure horsepower perspective).

i don't know if the dudes from RE 4 weren't involved or what, but i hope they step it up for RE 6
 
Why can't they just let RE be survival horror? It's not like there are any other games in the genre right now, besides Dead Space. Not much competition, room for two.
 
It's a shame RE4 and 5 were not named something else, they play well but I prefer the classic and more horror (if you can call it that for a re game) approach, but I guess without the full sequel name they would never sell as many as they have.

New code veronica styled game please, with today's tech it should look mind blowing without the need of fmv.

Those do look far better than anything in RE5 as a whole. The game really let me down, I was expecting a whole lot more. The dozens of El Gigantes looks awesome, I suppose they overshot that a bit and probably could not get that to happen on the consoles due to limitations.

I think I lost all interest in RE5 toward the end. I just beat the game for the sake of beating the game. It was a bit much when Chris falcon punched the boulder too.

If RE6 isn't a more traditional RE game... I may have to pass on it.

REmake = best RE ever.
 
People moan too much, RE5 was great and there's not a game out there that you can say wouldn't be improved by a battle on top of a moving train with a tentacle hive-mind monster slowly taking over it.
 
One of the best parts of RE was the B.O.W.'s, it seems they are a thing of the past now though. It really makes me sad to see what RE has become.

It was at one point my favorite game series.

Capcom still has GREAT artists and concepts but their execution in extremely lacking.

I mean, they took out a fucking Tyrant! A staple of the RE series... What.the.fuck.
 
It was a pretty decent action game. Have yet to try the co-op. It was almost like a watered down Army of Two in some places.


But it was a pretty horrible survival horror game. It's more of a "shooter horror" game.






It's like if they had a popular fighting game with countless updates, and the true sequel became a watered down RPG... oh wait, Guilty Gear...

Giant golem things are still WTF in my book, I also dislike the whole egg seed approach from 4 and 5. Bring back a virus which turns you into a zombie.

Need fast zombies? RE2 has running ones and REmake has motherFUCKING CRIMSON HEADS oh shit oh shit! It was a cool extra feature they added, having to set them on fire before they lay there for too long and evolve, also a great way to show that these mansion workers from years ago have been rotting away with the t-virus in them making them stronger.

Never forget plant-42 and Barry.
 
REmake and RE2 are pretty much unmatched in terms of gameplay/diversity/awesomeness.

an RE2 remake in the vain of REmake would probably make me shit my pants. Imagine Mr. X busting through a wall in Hi-fucking-Def?

Or when the dude in the gun shop gets his shit wrecked by that group of zombies?

Its really tricky to rank the RE games, because RE3 is also great. The only main game that didn't feel up to par was probably RE0.

I could on and on about this shit though... in short: Fuck Crapcom.

Exactly. RE5 is better than RE4 (except horror, setting and plot). Biggest complaint with RE4 were the controls. The controls felt really sluggish on the PS2 and were generally crap.

But I wouldn't mind RE4 HD released on the PSN store with upgraded controls so I can give it another go. Seems like that won't happen though.

But bring on RE6! Also, the co-op is great. I'd love it if they kept it.

The one big problem this series has is its fanbase, expecting a game to be good (no wait, the expressions to use now are "epic" and "awesome") through the appearance of all previous characters and zombie enemies.

Because they made RE4, which was one of the best games ever made and it wasn't survival horror. Naturally, they tried to expand on that. The result was RE5, a flawed but awesome game.
 
Didn't RE5 Developers state that light would be used as a gameplay element.

They could have really used that to their advantage (I think), from coming out of sewers or warehouses, you as the player have to adjust to the light, while enemies come after you, give it almost a halucination effect to it.

Could have added a little more "Fear" effect into the game of where the f is the majini, wtf?...where did it go.. I've been shooting a lamp post all this time, my bullets..nooooooooo (vivid imagination)

1 thing you have to admit is the RE5 Co-Op is a motherfucking blast when playing with a good buddy online. The jokes we cracked, and gameplay we had with veteran mode + rocket launchers (unlimited, of course), oh it was a riot.

Cool funny story happened with my co-op buddy. It was when you have to escape through the corridors filled with lickers, who are quietly sleeping. I was being a dick to him, like shhhh....they can hear us while we are talking/walking by. My co-op buddy was like dude srsly?, I was like nah, just fucking with ya, but he stayed quiet through the whole ordeal. Just as we got to the last hall before the elevator, I ran, he was not paying attention "being careful", I screamed mad loud into my BT headset, "Fuck You Lickers!!!!!", my friend screamed so loud, lol, I was laughing so hard, I had tears in my eyes, that licker stabbed and killed me (go go Veteran mode). It was awesome.
