Resident Evil 5 PC Benchmark

That looks rather wrong with your pc specs on the left, have you tried running it in DX9 or maybe at 1280x768 or something to see if that works much better?

Can't see your pic from work, but are you running an NVidia card? Is it possible you have Ambient Occlusion turned on through your control panel?

Here are my DX9 results with settings all the way up and motion blur:

NO AA:

16xQ AA:

AMD Phenom II 940 @ 3.4Ghz
ECS A780GM-A Ultra Black
8GB G.Skill 1066MHz RAM
BFG GTX260 MAXCORE 55 216core @ 675x1150
Vista Ultimate 64bit

Area 3 runs terribly for me in DX10 as well. I don't really have a super computer though. Got 51 fps average in DX9 at 1920x1080 so I'm definitely happy.

Holy crap I just ran it again @ 720p DX9, same result.:lol

Mid-to-lower range gaming PC:

Intel Pentium Dual E2180 @ 2GHz
3GB DDR2
Radeon 4830 512MB overclocked to 740/1000
Vista 64bit

TheExodus, man, I know you can't see the pics at work but I can. Stop leaving the img tags in your quotes :(

Does anyone know if RE5 is a GFW Live game with achievements and all that jazz?

Woahoooh! the game looks fucking fantastic with the 3D vision glasses on! :D

Easily one of the best games I have used it on so far, I can not wait for the actual game to come out!

With so many extras I dunno, Colonies is live enabled but it's a pc clone of the colonies 360 version, this RE5 has extra features which I doubt we will get on 360 as dlc.

Some reason GFWL is becoming less connected to achievements and live online play then ever, just carrying the logo on the box.

Woops. I wasn't really realizing it. :lol

i have a 1360x768 native resolution and the benchmark set a resolution not supported by my 40r86bd and the result is "mode not supported" HELP!!! :(

Force your videocard into Crossfire mode with Crossfire Xtension. It'll give you better performance.

So is the GTX 260 the graphics card everyone on gaf has?

I need a new gfx card, so it's good to know if there is a consensus. I'll just need to make sure it works with core i7.
I have a gtx 280, so I'll go with no :).

Doesn't 4870x2 came with CF on by default?

anyway I tried again, same result...WTF~

Hm this article seems to say there are: http://fidgit.com/archives/2009/07/three_reasons_to_play_resident.php

I like the idea of Games For Windows linking your console (well one console) and PC experience. Standardized friends list, unified achievement system... My biggest annoyance when it comes to multi-console gaming is how disjointed everything is.

That's more a sign of when they build their PC I think. Grab an ATI Radeon 4890 or nVidia GTX 275 instead.

Cross platform play in Colonies is great, I can play my 360 pals on either my 360 or pc version depending on how I feel, but I still prefer to use a pad on the pc.

RE5 would be another good cross platform game for co-op, long as not much is changed for the main campaign your pc friend may become good help if you keep getting stuck on Pro mode :P

RE5 loves the Nvidia.
4890 even the final average is 60 fps, but inside the benchmark there are drops to 30-40fps often. That is with 4xmsaa on 1920x1200. Had to go down to 1600x1050 2xmsaa to be above 60fps.

That's not what I'm talking about. 4870X2 crossfire will only enable on games that have crossfire code enabled, it's not something that just automatically kicks in. Games that don't support CF will only use 1 GPU core. Crossfire Xtension is a small program that'll let you force both cores to run on the same game, sometimes giving you huge performance boosts. For example SFIV bench got me a max of 500fps @ 1080p with everything maxed out, while without the program I was only getting like 210fps.

Hmm not even the PC version can look like Capcom's bullshots. Textures are really low res in some places.

I agree and I just purchased a 260 too (was a better deal than the 4890 and 275 only because I got it on sale and had to get something ASAP anyway).

I love the 260 core 216 but for not much more you can do a little better. Might as well if you're buying now.

Does anyone else with ATi cards have this problem?

Well i have a 3850 hd and the bench when start set a resolution too high for my hdtv (1360x768) but i dont' think it's related to my card :(

Yeah I tried the CX, my profile was Crysis.exe (is it the right one?), same result.

You should try updating your drivers...I'm using a 4670 and I'm getting better results than you mang. :P

I brought a 260 as it was a great price for me at the time a few months back, I could have gone with an 8800gt and still had great looking games but the extra £90 on my ultra cheap budget was so worth it.

The gtx 260 is a very good card for it's price and the price for cards seems to always change, so just grab what you feel is the best for your buck at the time.

E2180 @ 3.2GHz
8800GT
4GB RAM
Windows 7 x64
All high/no AA/motion blur off

I had to sit back while watching this, it really hurt my eyes, especially when motion blur was on. Looks good though.

I think I need to upgrade my video card. My older, better one died out and I just got one from my dad a few months ago. I put everything on low and the FPS is horrible.

Try setting it to Bioshock, and make sure you don't have Vsync enabled.

same shitting fps during Area 3, oh well.

Oh gawd, I hate doing that. After I update to Windows 7 I'll do it.

Does it really matter that much? (I think I have CCC 9.3)

Well...RE5 will continue to run like ass if you don't, apparently. The latest version is 9.6...you really should update dude.

Odd, I get about 10 FPS more running DX10 over 9. That's mildly backwards.

It's not really backwards. If the DX9 instruction set is not large enough to accomodate all of the highest settings, then there will be some overhead getting them to fit, I'd assume.

FarCry 2 runs faster on DX10.

I do believe the 360 supports a larger instruction set than DX9, so I wouldn't be surprised if DX9 is a tad compromised on the PC (that was the case for Tomb Raider Underworld).

I'll see which runs faster for me tonight.

Here's my 3 year old computer with a 2 year old video card. 0x AA and everything else on high. I'll try a more modest resolution later with some AA.

Wait until people use downsampling on it. Although i don´t know how far you can push it because the game seems to run great in very high resolutions already.

With my aged CPU, it stayed above 30fps at 1920x1080/4xAA/V-sync on/all settings maxed and on DX10 to boot. Very impressive Capcom :D
