Resident Evil 5 PC Benchmark

Yeah, I asked on the capcom boards the other day and someone there confirmed no cross platfor play. Oh well, no big deal. I honestly don't think Capcom is capable of making a game with crossplatform play between PC and 360 without it being horrible laggy. Their net-coding skills, as evidence from SFIV shows, have been nothing short of mediocre.

Lost Planet: Colonies worked just fine. I always found it amusing playing in the same games as the Xbox folks for free when them poor saps had to pay for the priveledge of playing against me. :lol

The thing about LP:C is that mouse, imo, is worse. But maybe that's because I am so use to playing the game on the 360 for ages before I had a good gaming pc.

I would agree, but after i put the mouse sensitivity upto 5 in the menus, it functions just like any other PC game imo. Poor sob's dont know what hit them when the rifles in my hands ;)

Fiendflug: Read the ****ing title. It's talking about the PC game. It's not trolling when he's stating the obvious in a PC thread. Take your console martyrdom to another thread.

Nothing like that but life could be better in these forums without trolls, don't you think?

Its definitely improved over the original release, but yes its not perfect. The 260 pad works just fine though, so its not a huge issue, graphics sure take a huge leap, that's for sure.

It only cost me like £6 with a free month of Live Gold anyway, I'm not complaining.

And to this jumped up poster, I don't know who the hell you are, but try contributing something worthwile to this community before you advocate getting rid of other posters that dedicate their free time to helping out others, thanks.

Indeed it could especially ones that contribute fuck all, so please make a sharp exit. Don't slam the door door on your way out, thanks.

Yes, so go away troll. And are you actually denying people pay for xbox live? :lol

you use xbox 360?

Of course, had one since launch. I'm a newbie to PC gaming really, only jumped fully in about 18 months ago.

Oh, and for the record, no I don't pay for Live. I did a couple of times in the past (for splitscreen Halo 3 online basically) but don't use it enough to justify shelling out for it now, PC gaming is taking up all my time.

I changed HDR to high in the config file. This is everything else maxed with 4xAA. Notice what it says next to 1680x1050.

I get a solid 60FPS with everything maxes but with no AA (which doesn't even make that much of a difference to the look of this game anyway, in my opinion) on my 2.4GHz Q6600/9800GTX+ at 1600x900.

Super happy about that. I'll probably play a bit of it at 60, but as all the animations were so clearly made for 30FPS play, I'll probably just end up limiting it to 30.

Oh, a tip to those that are getting a nice 60fps but still experiencing the occasional dip. Just set your refresh rate to 50hz ingame (all European monitor will support and others should as well), you won't notice a huge difference in general fluidity, but you shouldn't have a single dropped frame.

I often find its a nice way to get a 100% locked framerate in games, when you're just on the edge of a perfect refresh.

While there's a definite large and easily noticeable difference between 30fps and 50fps, the difference between 30fps and 60fps is usually very minor and not something many will notice all that much, while the occasionally variable framerate is something you might spot.

Its all personal preference of course but something you might not of thought of that's often worth trying anyway. I'd take a locked 50fps with 4xaa over a locked 60fps with no zz for example, and something like that will often be the choice it gives you.

that you have to pay to play online? it probably hurts, but it ain't hurting us.
it's cool dude, some ppl like you like to pay for granted things. nothing wrong with that.

I need to cancel my Live sub. Haven't had an Xbox since February and the only game I play on Live these days is Shadowrun, and I'm pretty sure I don't need a sub to play against the xbox folks. :lol

Colonies works like Shadowrun? Playing against xbox players?

Yeah, exactly the same, no Gold subscription required for any of the Live services on PC anymore, including cross platform play. It works pretty damn well to boot, pretty impressive considering all the engine enhancements they added to the PC version of LP:C.

Its great because it means the community remains stronger for longer, and since Lost Planet doesn't suit the mouse all that well its ideal.

That's the big thing that I felt was so weird, I can play in the exact same matches on my PC for free but if I boot up the Xbox I can't join without ponying up. Quite a bizarre situation, really.

I'll have to pick that up then.

Are there any other games besides those two that has cross platform play? I heard UAW did but I can't stand playing that game for more than 5 minutes. It's atrocious.

i guess you'll just have to work out which of us has more objective resale value.

I was wondering if this was running on the same engine as DMC4....PC version of DMC4 I get solid 60+FPS everything high 1680*1050, but with the RE5 bench im scraping 20 30s without lowering the resolution...I was wondering if the "3d" tech had anything to do with it or if it is just that its a different game with different requirements....anyway from what Ive seen the textures and graphics in general are not as good as DMC4, but the small arena style rooms no doubt alleviate CPU and GPU stress in DMC4

It's the same engine, but DMC4 was designed to run 60fps even on consoles while RE5 never goes over 30fps on consoles (and there's sometimes it even drops frames). So RE5 is just simply more demanding overall.

Maybe if you could resell your games, you could afford to buy a vowel for your name.

:lol :lol :lol

DMC4 was a 60fps game on console with "pretty good" graphics, RE5 was a 30fps game with eleventy billion times the graphic detail. Not even close. When I ran the benchmark on my PC it reached 150fps at times, with max settings at 1080p.

Man, was kinda pumped to watch this thing go, XP64 telling me I don't have proper privileges to install. :( (I am the admin?)

I'm the troll now? wtf? 50% of brain_stew's posts are how xbox live sucks, PS360 are teh weak, 30fps only is crap, I'll wait for teh superior PC version, Uncharted is unplayable due to the screen-tearing, 720p lmao and stuff like that...it's really getting old IMO that's why I commented on his troll attempt.

Anyway I knew that the PC defence force would've been strong on this thread anyway.

He may be useful and a great poster for the PC community here but if you think that his not a troll then I guess I'm the only one thinking otherwise.

They greatly scaled back the effects and lighting model to get DMC4 to run at 60fps on consoles. RE5 is doing an awful lot more technically than DMC4 did.

Edit: Seems I've got a stalker, how nice.

If you can call me out on any posts that are factually incorrect, by all means do so but do that in the relevant threads, and do it intelligently and with your own evidence. If you can't do that then kindly stfu and go stalk someone else.

I'm as interested in the technical side of games technology just as much, if not more, than the games themselves, that's why my posts talk about framerates, iq and screen tearing. Its what I'm interested in, and to give something back to the community I help others out on how to alleviate these problems.

What exactly is wrong with that so long as I keep my posts are intelligent and informative. The amount of feedback I've recieved clearly shows that people appreciate it. I don't aim to make friends, and I have an abrasive style, I don't give a shit if you like it or not, sometimes the truth hurts.

FFS, you'll see me making the same sort of posts in 1990s arcade hardware game threads ffs, I like to talk about the hardware and engines behid these games, that's all. Camineet is the same but he/she doesn't even have a gaming capable rig, doesn't stop him/her from sharing my opininion on a whole host of things.

Well compared to the PC:

Xbox Live does suck (imho its a scam) because you have to pay for it and it really doesnt do anything that amazing for those 60$/euro a year which you couldnt do on a PC for free.

PS360 are weaker compared to most PC nowadays and the difference will get bigger every month now. Like my 16 month old 399 (now 269) PC runs all multiplat games better then on consoles by a wide margin (higher settings, more fps).

Uncharted did have screen tearing.

720p is kind of low for the high end gamer. I use this resolution myself because I hooked up my PC to my HDTV and comfy couch but I can see it's a bit restricting in some game genres (RTS, MMO).

Real Talk:
The worst thing about the PC is the limited games library

Hey, I'm not going to deny I found it fucking hilarious how I can take part in the exact same matches as 360 Gold subscribers for free. I was a bit bemused when I fired the game up and found out it worked like that, as I'm sure many others would be.

I genuinely found it funny.

Kosma said:

yeah, and action/platform games are much better on 360 due to the controller.

You know what I mean guys, I'm talking about the big console releases which we PC folk mostly get later and sometimes not at all.

All in all the PC library is obviously the biggest.

PC Defence force can be annoying but srsly people? What the hell?
