Resident Evil 6 takes place in 2013, roughly four years following the events at Kijuju and it's surrounding areas and roughly fifteen years after the original mansion incident in Resident Evil.

At Ivy University situated in Tall Oaks (USA), president Adam Benford is preparing to reveal the truth behind the Raccoon City incident in an effort to curb bioterrorism.
He has requested that his trusted agent, Leon S. Kennedy, now working for the Division of Security Operations, stand with him as he sets the record straight with the public.
As you'd expect - Ivy University suffers a bioterrorism attack, and Benford is infected with an undisclosed pathogen.
Helena Harper, a secret service agent, shoots down the president following his turning into a zombie, and both her and Leon are named as fugitives for allegedly planning the President's death.

In the Chinese coastal town of Lanshiang, Chris Redfield is now working for the Special Operations unit of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance).
Having been sent to Lanshiang in order to combat bioterrorism that is now running rampant throughout the world, Chris must rescue a United Nations VIP while also combating those responsible for the outbreak.

In Eastern Europe, guerrilla fighters against the government of the Edonia Republic have been distributed a nutritional supplement that contains a strain of the c-Virus.
Jake Muller, a soldier, does not mutate and instead develops superhuman abilities, leading many to speculate that his blood may be of significant importance.
Division of Security Operations agent Sherry Birkin (daughter of g-Virus creator William Birkin and his wife, Annette from Resident Evil 2) is dispatched to find Jake.
But of course, a second party is involved and wishes to capture Jake for themselves, dispatching a deadly B.O.W., Ustanak, to track down and apprehend them both.

Leon Scott Kennedy began his career as a police officer who was assigned to the Raccoon City Police Department. Once he arrived at his post, he was unwittingly entangled in the Biohazard outbreak
instigated by Umbrella through the t-Virus, and unknowingly discovered the Umbrella Corporation's own evil agenda - but not before sharing a romantic moment with female spy, Ada Wong.

During Operation Javier, Leon thwarted an attempt in conjunction with Jack Krauser to destroy the Amazon's ecosystem which would begin a global crisis. His partner, Jack Krauser, was forced out of the
military due to injuries and Leon was later informed that Krauser had died in an undisclosed accident.

Following his escape from Raccoon City, Leon became an agent for the United States Government and successfully carried out several anti-Umbrella operations that eventually lead to the collapse of
the corporation. Following this, Leon carried out an extraction operation to retrieve the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a cult in a rural village in Europe. During this operation, he came
face to face with Jack Krauser (who had augmented himself with Las Plagas, a parasite) and bested him in battle.

Following his success and due to his experience with bioterrorism, Leon was deployed to Harvardville following an alleged t-Virus outbreak in the city's airport. During this operation he uncovered a
conspiracy by the WilPharma Corporation to sell key viral agents to politically unstable sponsors of bioterrorist acts. The conspirators involved were stopped and Leon left Harvardville after averting
yet another bioterrorism incident.

Today, Leon works for the new United States president, Adam Benford, as a member of the Division of Security Operations. Leon is accompanying him to his announcement of the truth behind the
outbreaks at Raccoon City, which is being delivered at Ivy University in Tall Oaks, U.S.A.

Resident Evil [Rebirth] (2002)
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (2007)
Resident Evil 5 (2009)
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronices (2009)

A former member of the US Air Force, Chris Redfield was eventually found and recruited into the Raccoon City Police Department, as a member of their Special Tactics
and Reconnaissance Service (S.T.A.R.S.) due to his highly developed marksman skills. Following the Mansion Incident in the Arklay mountains, in which he was betrayed
by his unit's captain Albert Wesker, he somewhat dedicated the rest of his life to battling bioterrorism, with particular wishes to topple the pharmaceutical giant, Umbrella Corporation.

When Chris found out his sister, Claire Redfield, was in danger on Rockfort Island, Chris was quick to travel to the remote Umbrella facility. Not only did he come
face to face again with his well known rival, Albert Wesker, but he thwarted Wesker's own plans to build reputation with his employer and hence earning a strong
disdain from Wesker for his actions. Wesker escaped, though both vowed to "finish their business" later.

Prior to the fall of Umbrella, Chris and Jill initiated an all out assault against an Umbrella facility in Caucasus. They were successful in destroying the facility and
several key Umbrella experiments including the T.A.L.O.S., a proprietary Tyrant.

Following the fall of Umbrella, Chris and his partner, Jill Valentine, formed the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A.). Both Jill and Chris were
informed about the resurrection of "Il Vetro", a bioterrorist organisation who had a new virus, the t-Abyss virus, and were using it to conduct attacks against
Terragrigia. Chris partners with Jessica Sherawat to investigate. Chris eventually meets up with Jill and Parker Luciano, and they manage to neutralise the
t-Abyss threat. Jessica is revealed to be a mole and escapes, while Jill and Chris thwart the attempt and reveal the true figure behind the attacks and threats.

In 2006, Jill and Chris tracked Albert Wesker to a mansion believed to be the Spencer Estate in Europe. Following a brief battle, Jill and Wesker were flung out
a window and presumed dead. Several years later, teaming up with Sheva Alomar, Chris investigates a terrorist threat originating from Kijuju, Africa and tied to
another pharmaceutical giant, TRICELL. Chris discovers that Wesker and Jill were both alive, though Jill was brainwashed to act against the duo. Following a lengthy
battle, Jill is returned to her former self, and the B.S.A.A. prevent the terrorist threat and presumably kill Albert Wesker, who was planning to release a deadly virus (Uroboros)
into the atmosphere to start a new "race" of superior individuals.

Today, Chris is still working for the B.S.A.A. and has been traumatised following a mission gone wrong. He returns to Lanshiang, China to investigate a bioterrorist threat with
relative newcomer, Piers Nivans

DEBUT APPEARANCE

Jake Muller is a mercenary who is working in order to secure funds to support his mother. Operating within an anti-government guerilla group in the Eastern European republic of Edonia,
Jake has found himself unknowingly caught up in an act of bioterrorism. Jake's mercenary group were supplied with nutritional supplements that were actually augmented with the c-Virus,
though for some reason Jake was not affected by the virus and instead of mutating, developed superhuman powers.

Jake's blood is something that many companies have shown interest in due to his alleged immunity to the c-Virus, as many see it as a cure for the epidemic while others see it as something
that may need to be contained and exploited to turn a profit. Indicative of his mercenary personality - Jake is willing to hand over his blood, but only to the highest bidder

DEBUT APPEARANCE

Helena Harper is a special agent working for the Division of Security Operations (DSO), a supposedly secret military branch of the United States government. Following her tenure working
for the DSO, she became a member of the United States Secret Services and now serves protection detail for President Adam Benford.

Helena accompanied the president to his keynote speech at Ivy University in Tall Oaks, however a bioterrorist attack lead to his eventual death and Helena blames herself for what has
happened, though her partner, Leon, doesn't understand why.

Helena's sister, Debra, has been seen in trailers though the role she plays in the game has yet to be properly detailed.

Piers and Chris had worked together previously during the Marhawa School incident, though the details of their exploits are not well known at this time.

Previously operating for the B.S.A.A. team in Edonia, and lead by Chris Redfield, a tumultuous event leads Chris to break down. Finding him in a bar drowning his sorrow, Piers picks Chris up and coerces him to return to the field.

Now a member of the Special Operations Unit, a branch of the North American B.S.A.A., Piers is serving directly under Chris Redfield again to take down the bioterrorist threat in Langshiang, China.

Appearances:
Resident Evil 2 (1998)

Sherry Birkin is the daughter of renowned Umbrella Corporation personnel, William Birkin and Annette Birkin, the former of whom curated the g-Virus, the viral agent
surrounding the Raccoon City outbreak during the events of Resident Evil 2.

Sherry's parents were very busy people, so they often put their work ahead of her and never really spent time with her, leading to a great feeling of insecurity within Sherry
while she was growing up, as well as forcing her to mature quickly. This lack of attention meant that Claire Redfield, a bystander in the Raccoon City outbreak, was easily trusted
by Sherry due to the attention and love she gave her during the day's events.

During the only game in which she has appeared, Sherry was supported by Claire while a tyrant, known colloquially as Mr. X, was after the g-Virus sample in the pendant her father
gave her. Sherry lost the pendant eventually and Ada Wong, who was posing as a civilian but was really a spy working for an unnamed corporation, retrieved the pendant and the sample.

Following an altercation, Sherry was impregnated with a G-virus embryo by her father in his mutated form, which was eventually cured thanks to both Claire and Leon synthesising DEVIL,
an antidote for the G-virus. Following the defeat of her now mutated father; Sherry, Leon and Claire escaped from Raccoon City on the dawn of the next day.

Fan debate and speculation has run rampart for years as to what became of Sherry following the events of Resident Evil 2, though several clues gave away what happened. Sherry was put
into "protection" by a governmental force due to her possession of an antibody against the g-Virus (due to her vaccination of DEVIL), and refused to co-operate with the government agents
who interrogated her, instead wishing for Claire to come back to her. Due to this, Sherry Birkin is the only known human being alive with a natural resistance to the g-Virus.

Leon subsequently made an agreement with the Adam Benford to become an agent in exchange for Sherry's safety, keeping her in custody of the government (where they researched her antibody).
These scientists who were able to access Sherry and her unique antibody were mostly spies who were planted by Albert Wesker, whom was able to obtain the antibody to use for his own needs.

Several years have passed, and Sherry is now an agent working for the same military agent as Leon, the Division of Security Operations. Negotiating her own release from house arrest in exchange
for becoming an agent, she is currently tracking Jake Muller.

Appearances:
Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Resident Evil 4 (2005)
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (2007)
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronices (2009)
Resident Evil: Damnation (2012)

Ada Wong's real name is unknown, as is most of her past.

Initially a spy working for an unknown competitor of the Umbrella Corporation under the command of Albert Wesker, Ada retrieved the g-Virus sample from Sherry Birkin during the Raccoon City outbreak.
She also ran into Leon S. Kennedy, developing feelings for him but nonetheless remaining undercover. Following an attack by the G creature running rampant, Ada was harshly injured almost to the point
of death after returning to save Leon from a Tyrant, once again letting her feelings get in the way of the mission.

Following her apparent death, Ada abandoned Leon but returned shortly to assist him in the destroying of the same Tyrant threatening Leon's life. She did not reveal herself during this assistance.
Following this, she escaped from the crumbling lab via the sewer system and patched herself up. Reaching her contact, only to find he had killed himself, Wesker stated his displeasure with Ada and
nearly abandoned her to die in the impending nuclear strike designed to wipe out Raccoon City. Once Wesker knew that Ada was in possession of a sample of the g-Virus, he gave her a second chance,
and informed her of the impending nuclear strike. Ada escaped by stowing away on a helicopter carrying out a key Umbrella executive.

Ada's subsequent disillusion with Wesker led to what could be one of the most complicated spy relationships. Knowing Wesker would dispose of her once he was done with her, Ada joined yet another organisation
and worked as a double agent against Wesker himself. Wesker's company suspected this however, but thought Ada would be too dangerous to approach directly. Ada's change in mentality, caused by her interactions
with Leon, caused her great internal conflict and though she was no longer in love with him, she was able to overcome and reduce it to just a subtle attraction.

Ada was sent by Wesker to a rural village in Europe to retrieve a Plaga sample from the cult "Los Illuminados", the same cult responsible for capturing the president's daughter. Jack Krauser, Leon's former partner
was previously sent to retrieve the sample, however his competence were not fully trusted and thus Ada was sent in to get the job done instead.

Ada's own organisation, who she was working with against Wesker, wanted the Plaga samples for themselves as a show of loyalty to them and against Wesker. Following a brief reunion with Leon S. Kennedy,
Ada was ordered to execute him by Wesker as he thought that Leon would be a risk to the mission, presumably knowing about Ada's history with Leon. Ada kept her distance from Leon, and offered minor assistance
wherever possible. Ada, being cold and calculated, decided to instead use Kennedy as a distraction and use Jack Krauser as an excuse as to why she would fail her mission (and provide the Plagas to her organisation instead of Weskers).

Her plan unfortunately failed, and Krauser was ordered to kill Leon instead. Ada began working independent of Wesker and murdered Krauser, assisted Leon in defeating Sadler (the leader of the cult) by providing
Leon with a rocket launcher much like she did during the events of Resident Evil 2. Finally, she provided Leon with a way to get off the cult's island, which was crumbling following a self destruct mechanism initiation.

Despite her saving Leon, Ada forced him to hand over the Plaga sample at gunpoint, and escaped while uttering the words "I don't do evil". She delivered an inferior sample of the Plaga to Wesker, while sending the
dominant one to her own secret organisation whom she wanted to prove her loyalty to. She was subsequently cut off from Wesker's rival company for her crippling of Wesker's plan of action.

Despite not appearing in Resident Evil 5, Ada Wong was tied to, and contacted Ricardo Irving, a natural resource development employee of TRICELL's Africa Branch who featured prominently in Resident Evil 5.
It is through Irving that Ada learns of Wesker approaching TRICELL following Umbrella's collapse and his plans for the viral agent Uroboros.

During the events of Resident Evil 6, Ada Wong has been sighted in both Edonia and Lanshiang, though her motives are currently unknown.

For the first time in the franchise ever, Resident Evil 6 takes horror to a global scale, bringing worldwide context and relevance to the recent outbreak of the C-Virus.
Players will explore locations sprawling from North America, to the rough and rugged Eastern Europe and the colourful yet dangerous China and drive multiple vehicles through each one.

Each campaign has specific characters and is alleged by the developers to have different "tones".
Leon's campaign has a largely atmospheric tone that harkens back to previous games before RE4 and including RE4.
Chris's campaign is assumed to be very fast paced, action gamer friendly, recalling memories of RE5 and modern shooters such as Gears of War.
Jake's campaign doesn't seem to have a specific tone, but there is a greater emphasis on melee combat from Jake himself as well as a constant "stalker" enemy type, similar to RE3: Nemesis.

The campaigns do not take place linearly - that is, one after the other. An official timeline has yet to be released or discerned by gamers, but there will be "cross-over periods".
These cross-over periods allow more than two players to join (usually up to four) in order to advance the story together - this will be elaborated on later in the "Online" section of this thread.

A campaign titled "Prologue" was rumoured, however please be aware this is only a tutorial level and a not a fully fledged extra campaign.

Chronological order is as follow (thanks Dusk Golem)

Prelude Chapter
Chris Chapter 1
Chris Chapter 2
Jake Chapter 1
Jake Chapter 2
Leon Chapter 1
Leon Chapter 2
Leon Chapter 3
Jake Chapter 3
Chris Chapter 3
Jake Chapter 4
Leon Chapter 4
Chris Chapter 4
Jake Chapter 5
Chris Chapter 5
Leon Chapter 5
Ada's Campaign

Initial reports from journalists who have the game already are putting the three campaigns completion time between roughly 24 and 27 hours. Of course, your mileage may vary.

(Unlockable Spoiler) For those who complete all campaigns, a secret
fourth unlockable campaign, starring Ada Wong, attempts to fill in gaps raised by the story.
The secret
campaign does not feature a co-operative partner and is thus played solo, though Ada can join other's campaigns (online) if she runs into the other characters during her story
Ada's campaign should intersect throughout every characters campaign, and is claimed to be the same length as the other three in the game
This feature is not a piece of DLC and will be included on every disc for free

Featuring a brand new virus to the series, the C-Virus, Resident Evil 6 introduces new and interesting enemies into the fold for the agents to confront.

Classic Zombies do make a return though they can now run, jump and occasionally use weapons to provide more of a challenge.
Some do carry weapons, but others have things lodged in them that can be utilised in dynamic melee take downs.
They are NOT similar to the Ganado or Majini from previous games and operate rather "dumb" when compared to the J'avo.

The new enemy, named the J'avo by the BSAA, take the center stage in this iteration.
Derived from a serbian word for 'demon', the J'avo can mutate damaged body parts into a variety of different forms, forcing players to rethink strategies and adjust approaches dynamically.
A good example of the process of this mutation is in the J'avo's arms - attacking an arm enough will cause the J'avo to mutate said arm.
The arm could turn into many things - an elastic "grabber" arm, a sickle arm (similar to Krauser's from RE4) or even a hardened shield-like shell arm.
Each limb has thus far confirmed to have roughly four variants though more may be confirmed once the game releases.

Said enemies can also enter a state known as "chrysalis", which mutates the enemy even further into a brand new transformation which spawns a range of new enemies even further from what's offered.
The range of "Chrysalid" enemies are essentially new enemies that are a natural "evolution" or "extension" of the J'avo mutation.
These creatures can mutate beyond their human forms into something more terrifying

Skills are a system new to Resident Evil 6 that presumably will replace the traditional weapon upgrade system made famous in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.
They can be purchased at the end of each chapter within each campaign, or from the main menu.
Skills are funded by picking up points dropped by enemies - though artifacts can be found (much like treasures in previous games) to bank large amounts of skill points.
Skills can however be unlocked by completing certain conditions such as killing enemies within a time limit, completing campaigns, or getting weapon specific kills.

Skills allow players to upgrade their weapons, including the standard stats such as damage, reload speed, aim stability and firing speed.
However, Skills for other attributes also exist - including defense, increased ammo pickups or even a skill to alter the behaviour of your AI partner.
It has already been confirmed that a "Lone Wolf" (DO NOT HELP!! in Japan) skill will be purchasable, which means the game can be played without an AI partner once purchased

Skills are unique to each character - Leon's dual wielding skills could be augmented or Jake's melee skills could be improved.
Though there are some "universal" ones that will be shared / utilised by all characters in all campaigns.

Players can consolidate their favourite three skills into a "set" which can then be equipped by the player.
These "sets" can also be unlocked throughout the game, allowing the player to switch between up to eight different sets of skills during gameplay.
This means, essentially, players could take with them up to 24 different skills into one game at any one time.

Skills thus far seem to fit into categories (A.I. and Mercs Only, for example) though none have been confirmed.
Roughly, 49 skills have been confirmed through various sources.

Resident Evil 6 uses the same over the shoulder camera view popularised by Resident Evil 4, though several changes have been made to the game's mechanics.

First featured in the Outbreak series, players can now aim and shoot while walking - a long requested feature that I'm sure many fans will be pleased to hear about.
The cover system that debuted in Resident Evil 5 (but was atrocious) also makes a return though it has been rebuilt.

First appearing in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, a dodge mechanic has been implemented (while players can also counter enemies now too).

Players can also now "dive" and "slide" as evasive actions, and both diving and sliding allows the player to enter a crawling state.
Sliding allows players to better dodge enemies, stun enemies or provide a fast way to shatter time crystals in the Mercenaries mode.
While on your back, players can aim and shoot at enemies for dramatic effect or for those tight situations when surrounded by enemies.
Players can also perform a "quick shot" by pulling both triggers, targeting the enemy closest and stunning enemies.

A cover mechanic has been included too - with some enemies even being "freezable" and allowing players to create their own cover spots
dynamically during the action, adding nice layers of strategy to the game's combat.

Early gameplay footage and screenshots showed reticles and nav points on the screen - though the reticle can be replaced with a laser sight and nav points can be removed.

A polarising feature, for sure. Resident Evil 6's co-operative system has been revamped to be less intrusive and less annoying for players.
Utilising a Drop In/Drop Out system, players can simply join a game and leave it without making the Host have to restart or leave the game.

Online co-operative modes can now allegedly support anywhere between 4 and 6 players. It is unknown if this is applicable during the whole campaign or during set moments.
There are additional situations where the three pairs from the campaigns will meet up, and players can join a 4 player co-operative environment.
During these situations, players can wait for two more players to join their game to progress the storyline or let the AI step in for the third and fourth characters instead.

In terms of actual gameplay design - items and drops are no longer shared between players, and instead each player will be able to receive their own items from drops.
The items themselves may vary, though placed weapons are obtainable by both players

Split screen co-operative play is also confirmed, so you can play with a friend without having to head online. The split screen mode utilises a modified view as seen below.
Note that players will have different viewpoints in this mode - aiming over differing shoulders depending on who you are playing as.

In an all new online mode for the Resident Evil franchise, players get the chance to experience the action from the other side of the battle - joining the enemy side.
Players can take control of classic Zombies, the J'avo or other yet to be revealed C-Virus mutations to infiltrate active game sessions to attempt to eliminate human characters.

The campaign you wish to play Agent Hunt mode in must be completed before being able to play the mode. Similarly, players must agree to allow players to "invade" their games.
Those playing as Agent Hunters will be weaker, though players can respawn continuously throughout the session. Success means the player will be able to move to another game and hunt more human players.
Players who are eliminated by an Agent Hunter will continue playing as usual (a Game Over screen and continue option) while those who join as Agent Hunters but quit will not affect the host's game at all.

Somewhat of a Resident Evil tradition at this point, The Mercenaries returns as a bonus mode in Resident Evil 6 both online and offline (with split screen).
The aim of The Mercenaries Mode is to chain together enemy kills to accumulate a high score within a predetermined time limit, without dying.

Resident Evil 6 boasts a revamped control scheme that is more attuned to action games, to Mercenaries mode will really give the game a chance to shine
The timer can be extended by destroying crystals scattered around the arena, while killing enemies with melee attacks or the brand new counter attack will also add to the counter.

As you would expect, different enemy kills reward the player with different amounts of points, with multiple kills within succession (a combo) reward bonus points. A combo is lost if the player is too slow in their kills.
Achieving a certain number of chained kills can and will cause different types of enemies to appear, heightening the tension and increasing the challenge for the player.

Each map in The Mercenaries is designed to release roughly 150 enemies before the action ends - if you survive that long, that is.

There are multiple maps and multiple characters, with each character (and costume of each character) having a different load-out of weapons.
While it was uncovered that there may be up to ten maps included in the demo leak, we will wait until the retail version is released before they are added here.

ResidentEvil.Net is a free online service provided by Capcom that will allow players to track their in-game statistics and other various gameplay details.
Players will not only be able to track their details while playing the game, but also personalise their profiles.
The system will launch along with the game during October, and will have real-time notifications and updates that even allows you to "stalk" your friends as they play.

Notifications will also pop up in-game during gameplay whenever someone beats, for example, a high score in Mercenaries.
Exclusive unlockables will also be tied to the use of ResidentEvil.Net and Capcom promises to hold regular online events throughout the game's life span (much like they did for Outbreak).

Participation in ResidentEvil.Net unlocks the aptly name "RE Points", which can be used to buy content such as Mercenaries costumes as well as figurines and dioramas.

Files picked up during the game will be stored on your account on ResidentEvil.Net, allowing you to peruse them later at your own leisure.
Additionally, recaps of the story up until your point in the game will be provided - so you will never read story details that you haven't yet experienced on ResidentEvil.Net

Capcom are promising a mobile interface for ResidentEvil.Net though further details have yet to be confirmed. However, Facebook and Twitter integration will be available at launch.

Of course, achievements and trophies are also included. You can view them at the following links, but not that there may be spoilers in the descriptions: -

RELEASE DATE: Unknown
PRICE: Unknown

Launching as a timed exclusive for Xbox 360 following the game's launch, Capcom will release three new modes for multiplayer.
All of these multiplayer modes will support up to six players online.
Any map purchases will be usable with these modes as well. This includes pre-order bonus maps.

Survivors takes Resident Evil multiplayer and adds a twist. Players who are killed will respawn as enemy characters. Should they managed to take down two characters
who have yet to be turned into monsters, they will regain their human form. The last man or team standing wins.

Predator sees one player take control of the Ustanak, the B.O.W. chasing Jake Muller throughout his campaign. The goal? Eliminate all human players in the match.
Those who aren't playing as the Ustanak have a simple goal - take down the B.O.W. or at least survive until the end of the session.

Siege has players working in teams to protect an important NPC. Players who choose the human side will have to protect their NPC, while players who choose to play as one
of the enemy monsters will have to taken down the NPC. If the NPC is alive at the end of a pre-determined timer, the human team will win.

Bloody Disgusting
9 out of 10
Resident Evil 6 might not revolutionize the genre, but it definitely reinvigorates the franchise in much like the fourth game did seven years ago. It can be a little goofy — okay, a lot goofy — but if you’re a fan of the RE fiction, this offers one of the more compelling stories so far. In short, this game does for the action horror genre what Skyrim did for RPGs. The bar has been set, and Capcom has once again proven they know exactly what they’re doing.
The Final Word: It has its flaws, but this is a damn fine horror game that will keep you entertained and afraid for a very long time.

As you might've gathered, Resident Evil 6 is not a perfect game. It's not even all that scary, but it is immensely entertaining, gorgeous to look at, and it has more content than I've ever seen in a game like this. It might not revolutionize the genre like Resident Evil 4 did, but it does offer something for everyone. If you have an itch that only Resident Evil can scratch, then this game won't disappoint.

Can't be faulted for content, and better with a friend, but feels like diminishing returns - what's left is a good shooter that's long abandoned survival horror.

Over the years, the tone of the Resident Evil series has morphed from a George Romero horror flick to Michael Bay summer blockbuster. That metamorphosis into insane action is front and center in Resident Evil 6, and bringing a buddy along for the chaos is great fun. The game’s minor flaws don’t hold back the decadent experience from being an unhinged, flaming rollercoaster ride.

There’s certainly no denying the argument that Resident Evil 6 represents great value for money. The single-player content alone represents a hefty package before you even throw in the likes of Mercenaries mode (now open from the start) or the Dark Souls-inspired Agent Hunt mode, but this vast quantity and variety comes at the cost of consistent quality. There are moments in Resident Evil 6 that peak as high as the very best games in Resident Evil history, but there are so many more that settle for mediocrity or much, much worse. With a nip and tuck this could have been something very special indeed. Instead, it’s a great little Leon campaign with a hell of a lot of content that you should consider a worthwhile but extremely flawed bonus.

Excellent, but uneven, and almost certain to be divisive. Come for the bloated story mode, but stay for Mercenaries.

Evolution and ambition are only natural for a franchise as old as Resident Evil, as is the need to respect a long-lasting legacy and the fans that have come to appreciate it. But in trying to serve all masters, Resident Evil 6 loses focus and fails to accurately assess which of its elements are truly worthy of being included. When this game is at its height, it sets new standards for the series in every way. Unfortunately, there are no shortage of lows either, taking what could have been an excellent experience and making it something considerably lesser.

Capcom’s ambition is admirable, making a game that is great to play (with many high points) but unfortunately some lows. This remarkable contrast of large peaks and sometimes too deep lows makes us especially enjoy both Leon’s and Ada’s campaigns. But Resident Evil 6 is a total package to many.

+ 3x longer than the regular action game
+ The environment design is really good; caves, prisons, etc
+ The soundtrack is the best in the series
+ Ridiculously good atmosphere
+ More fluid controls than in previous series

- 3x longer than the regular action game (yes, this is also a negative thing)
- Resident Evil 6 is more quantity over quality
- Uninspiring puzzle-design
- The differences between the three characters isn't as big as Capcom wanted it to be

All in all, Resident Evil 6 has around 15-20 hours of gameplay and an insane amount of variety. This isn't even counting the slew of Multiplayer modes bundled in. It ends up being more action packed and entertaining, making it well worth the look in for newcomers and fans alike.

Pros

- Great audiovisual presentation
- Lot's of bang for your buck
- Leon & Ada campaigns are really cool
- Creature design is phenomenal

Cons

- Identity crisis. Trying to please too many people at the same time.
- Chris' campaign is average, other action games do it better

There's more content and variety here than in any other entry in the series, and its stories - while a little too goofy to really take seriously - are nonetheless fascinating, particularly for those of us who've watched these characters grow and develop over the years...RE6 is a strange experience, to be sure - but more importantly, it's an unforgettable one.

A Resident Evil worthy of modern times
...
This is arguably the best co-op game available on PS3 alongside Borderlands 2
...
Leon provides a sort of action that would never have been possible with the old Resident Evil framework. Jake provides host to Capcom's more ambitious ideas, while Ada's campaign is a "surprisingly generous addition"
...
While long-term Resident Evil fans might still be disappointed by the nod towards action over horror, Capcom finally has the confidence and know-how to pull it off. It's big, it's brutal, it's ballsy and most of all, it's back

Resident Evil 6 is the disfigured spawn of a generation that is best known for Call of Duty. We've got Resident Evil 4's atmosphere spliced into the body of Operation Racoon City's action. Moments of brilliance clash with sections of irritation. Going back to my original question: what is survival-horror? On the back of this, Black Ops 2's Zombie campaign will underline all you need to know.

If you’re a fan of this series, and you’re disenchanted with how the franchise has been taken in terms of direction, or if you’re a fan of third person action adventure blockbusters, Resident Evil 6 will not leave anyone feeling disappointed. As imperfect as it is ambitious, as hectic as it is fun, Japan have shown that they still know how to make great games.

Resident Evil 6 is a truly immense RE title that succeeds as a third-person action shooter, but falls flat on its face as a survival horror game. Yes, times have changed, but if Dead Space can still provide a good balance of scares and set-pieces, then why can't Resi? Here's hoping that Capcom sees the next-generation of consoles as a golden opportunity to take Resident Evil back to its roots. Or perhaps a reboot is in order. Until then, Resident Evil 6 is certainly not a bad game by any means, just a bit of a disappointment. Nonetheless, it'll still get its slimy hooks into you if you let it.

Resident Evil 6 is truly one of the best experiences I have had with a game this year. It is just loaded with content, and playing co-op with a friend is definitely a blast. The story is well-told, and the characters are interesting. I personally like the new mechanics; it was time for RE to evolve, and Capcom has pulled it off extremely well. Each campaign feels like a game within itself, and the bonus campaign and online content will keep you occupied for some time. Resident Evil fans should be thrilled with the latest chapter and it only excites me to see where they take it next. RE6 is easily in my top games of the year, and I cannot wait to go through it again on a higher difficulty. That always speaks volumes about a game to me.

RE6 presents blockbuster-caliber entertainment, sure, but it also forces you to revisit rough portions of gameplay and rarely challenges a player outside of arbitrary difficulty levels and cheap deaths via phoned-in quick-time events. The unfortunate truth is that Capcom hasn't figured out a new way to terrify gamers in the eight years since RE4. While building on that game's masterful formula of stop-and-pop gunplay is a smart approach, RE6 serves as proof that too many compromises and too much empowerment can ultimately erode what makes Resident Evil, at its core, work.

And whatever else you might say about the game, it achieves something that its predecessor never did: it steps out of Resident Evil 4’s shadow and becomes its own game. Sadly, it’s a game that redefines the series as a loose collection of action scenarios with a shared theme of mild sci-fi horror. It’s a game so eager to please that it can’t settle on an identity. And it’s a game that marks a critical point in the series’ history. Resident Evil might have lost interest in pure horror a while back, but it seems Capcom would rather you were thrilled than afraid.

The game represents a tremendous amount of effort and investment and, for those impressed by such things, Resident Evil 6 may delight. But all the effort in the world won't make up for a lack of vision. This game is blind to imagination and focus. Capcom's uncertainty about the series' identity post-Mikami (and post-Uncharted) is hardcoded into its structure: four campaigns offering different, flawed expressions of that potential. And the inevitable price for this wavering is a lack of coherence. Resident Evil 6 is an unwieldy tribute to the series' past, an uneven expression of its present and an unwelcome indication of its future.
GamesRadar

So much of Resident Evil 6 is wonderful. The story is massive and ambitious, and the separate campaigns--and the way they interact with each other--is an achievement in interactive storytelling. Even the changes to the gameplay are strong, and you’ll likely spend a majority of the game enjoying the weird, unexpected ride that it takes you on. When you do run into issues, though, they’ll be related to the half measures taken in other areas of the gameplay, proving that flat-out abandoning some tropes while clinging on to others doesn’t always make for great sequels. Though rough around the edges, Resident Evil 6 is still a remarkable creature, and like the J’avo, it’s an interesting transformation, even if it’s not necessarily the prettiest one.

This is, in fact it should have been, a survival horror game and it is very sad to see that the many promises have not led to the desired result, but rather have consolidated a precise choice of renewal that inevitably passes through the loss of some crucial elements of the mechanics who had previously combined tension, fear and fun creating a great saga. Now that all this is over there is only a bitter taste for an excellent game, that takes only the name of Resident Evil, but not his soul more obscure and fascinating. There are more zombies than once.

Resident Evil 6 is a pure action game, a huge disappointment and carries on the tradition set even a farce! Rather than revive the survival horror, Capcom carries him finally to the grave!

It's bad enough that the game -- at its very best -- is so pedestrian, but to screw up in areas that even third-rate shooters manage to get right is something Capcom should find degrading. It's not enough to say that Resident Evil 6 is poor as a Resident Evil game. That alone implies there could be a quality experience if fans can get past their preconceptions and feelings of betrayal. No, Resident Evil 6 is poor by the standards of any game, not just the high ones set by its own legacy. This is unexceptional tripe that becomes insulting once the woeful missteps come into play. Resident Evil 6 is not just a step back for the series, it's a step back for common garden, unassuming action-shooters.

If any consistently good thing can be said of Resident Evil 6, it's that it has made Paul W.S. Anderson's film adaptations look like fine works of art in comparison.

There's a place for contextual prompts and cinematic storytelling in video games, but Resident Evil 6 is a mishmash of elements put together without any sense of care or direction. Series faithful might stumble through for the sake of story, and perhaps to appreciate those few moments that recall when Resident Evil was at its peak glory. But this long, poor sequel is the ultimate test of patience for even the most dedicated.

As a whole package, Resident Evil 6 is fundamentally flawed. It has a poor camera, wonky melee combat, bad narrative pacing and follow through, unfinished and half-baked modes, and a weird back-and-forth between cutscenes, QTEs, and actual gameplay that leaves me feeling like I’m just along for the ride on a bad theme park attraction. The poor design and busted gameplay doesn’t fit with the experiences that made Resident Evil 4 and 5 so memorable and feels like one of the biggest missteps in the franchise. Worst of all, it’s difficult in a way that feels like the game is cheating you through broken mechanics somehow, and that isn’t fun for anyone.
Joystiq

If every idea had come together without friction, and with the aid of Capcom's top-notch presentation, Resident Evil 6 would have been a tremendous action game. Instead, it's a fully-featured, sloppy, frequently frustrating attempt to do well by everyone. Everyone would do well to study its anatomy, to learn what happens to a series stuck somewhere between a new life and an old body.

It’s obvious from the opening minutes that Resident Evil 6’s real ambition is to be the video game equivalent of a Michael Bay film, removing any hint of intelligence or artistry in favour of empty spectacle. The game’s greatest failure is that it succeeds in that goal all too well.
NAG Magazine

This is more than just an average action game or a shameful Resident Evil; this is a prime example of what is so wrong with the big publisher, AAA mentality in this industry. RE6 does nothing but take the piss out of the customers who either expect it to be another excellent Resi game because of its title, or a sweet action game because of its visuals. Resident Evil 6 is neither.

+Looks incredible
+Leon's campaign is only half-bad
+Cool multiplayer Modes

-Lacking narrative
-Poorly implemented copycat game mechanics
-This is no Resident Evil

Resident Evil 6 leaves players with the shell of a blockbuster game. It blusters along with massive explosions and insane plot twists, but it lacks a fundamental understanding of why action games are fun. In the end, Resident Evil 6 resembles one of its grotesque mutations — bloated, out of control, and recklessly trying to consume everything around it. Capcom has built a real monster here.

Nemesis_, what an excellent OT. I just skimmed through it and it's looking really good - gonna read it in more detail now.

I can't believe this game is upon our hands in a week. This and Mists of Pandaria... it's gonna be one helluva gaming-time for me!

Good OT. I'm furiously trying to beat Borderlands 2 before I hope in to this baby (with some DOA5 on the side).

The demo wasn't the best thing but I had fun. Looking to continue the epic resident evil storyline saga.

Oh and I've gotten used to the Giraffe Blowjob...and it doesn't bother me...but please tell me the lulzy QTEs are still in? I wanna laugh at my bro getting all suspense-d by it XP.

I haven't eve pre-ordered the game yet, but I will definitely get it. The skills system sounds very interesting indeed, too bad it wasn't available in the public release demo.

I'm really worried about this.

For the first time in a while, both versions (based on the demos) are technically poor. They both suffer from very low framerates and lots of drops. I don't really want to play the game on either machine as a result yet the PC version is a long ways off.

I'm really hoping that the final release is smoother than the awful demo.
