Resident Evil 7 biohazard - "Lantern" Gameplay Trailer

I hope Capcom marketing releases something more action/combat oriented at TGS. They need to address the growing concern about it being labelled as a hide/seek game.

But it is so nice seeing Capcom doing something different with the franchise. I hope for them that it works out, and it is a cool game.

Really? They're making this a hide and seek game? C'mon. I mean I'll give them a pass on the first person view, but weapons are a really big deal in RE.

Is it scarier? Yeah, probably, but at what cost?

Maybe that first image will get people to shut up about it being Amnesia, which it isn't and Capcom has said multiple times that it's not like Amnesia.

Gee-zus, I find funny how all the people are "OMG THERE IS NO COMBAT, THIS IS NOT RESIDENT EVIL" when I bet my ass that if the trailers were showing combat you all be like "OMG WHAT IS THIS ACTION CRAP, THIS IS NOT RESIDENT EVIL"

I was hoping this trailer would allay my indifference to RE7, but instead it only compounded it.

It's kinda depressing to see such an incredibly influential series conservatively chasing trends rather than setting them.

In your opinion. Doesn't make their marketing team incompetent. It means they're doing something you don't like. Shit happens.

Well if RE7's marketing isn't representative of the final product, then I'd question it because it's actually alienating RE fans, as we're seeing.

That plantation setting is incredibly creepy for me. Really hoping for great things.

It's representative... of one particular moment from the game. They're not in full on here's everything about the game just yet. It's still mostly being teased right now. There'll be a blowout at some point.

Still not sold, Outlast 2 looks better to me for this kind of game genre

Oh well, i at least got REmake2 to look forward to :(

I'm sure the Amnesia crowd will feel at home here. This is probably the first mainline RE game I'm going to pass on.

Hopefully Capcom shows off the RE2 REmake in the near futurel.

Must be another unrelated demo that's not repersentive of the Final game that will look and play like Resident Evil 1 in FP.
They're obviously showing off their engine to indie devs that make "hide behind the box" horrors

Where them fucking shotguns at yo.

/edit: in fact, huge missed opportunity to put a spin on the 'powerlessness' concept by having the player put a shotgun in the mouth of that lantern thing at the end there and the splashing a cool RE title card all over the screen.

Let's hope the TGS trailer will prove it. Lot of people don't care enough to read the interviews or anything and will snowball the Amnesia/Outlast comparisons until it launches.

(thanks for posting those photos. Hopefully OP will update)

Well, of course fans of the last RE iterations are disappointed. If you liked 5&6 this is a really big change in pace and general gameplay. But I like that they don't carry the series to the grave and try to reinvent the series with each 2-3 iterations. Keeps things fresh.

If you put it that way 5 and 6 are also no Resident Evil games. Heck even 4 is no RE game after you played the first 3 games. Saying this is no Resident Evil is pretty hilarious when you look how the series evolved.

I don't enjoy playing these types of first person horror games so I'd really like to see what the core game actually is if the demo and this trailer aren't indicative of that. Final Fantasy XV will have to suffice for my third person horror game itch.

No people read them and then they show this.
The Demo wasn't repersentive of the game yet this looks the same.
Giving you a gun isn't gonna make anything different, the style of game is "jump scare FP"
and regardless of what they say in interviews it's pretty obvious what type of game this is.

I dont really see any gameplay here. Just part of the event where a woman(?) try to run away from scary lady. Not sure how could people make up their mind and think this represent gameplay or final game.

And to people who say this is not resident evil , the atmostphere alone totally eclipse the whole RE5/6. This is Lisa Trevor shit right there. But again , I dont even know what does it means anymore when people say this is not RE. Do we even have RE that is RE in the past decade?

I'm glad you played the full game already.

Then maybe Capcom should release a trailer that doesn't make their game look like a vanilla-ass Amnesia clone if they don't want people to think that.

This looks exactly like Outlast. It looks like it plays like Outlast. It looks like Outlast.

I mean, I'm sure once there's a gun and some other stuff, it'll be different, but right now the gameplay and art design is taken right out of Outlast.

I wonder how Red Barrels feels now that RE is stepping on their toes right when they are about to release Outlast 2 (which has a setting and art design even closer to what they are showing here).

Was that "gameplay" or highly scripted nonsense?

welp, I'm out Capcom. Best of luck.

I hope tango reveals their next game soon, that's probably your best hope to get your RE fix. TEW wasn't too bad.

It looks pretty damn good atmosphere and graphic wise but marketing wise I really think they shouldn't have gone for this direction for a second time. Okay, you got the Amnesia-like games fans, the streamers and whoever else is interested in this type of game attention. Now they should have shown the "Resident Evil" part.

Or it could just be me being angry for waiting until the next gameplay reveal to get the, you know, actual gameplay reveal.

So sad that I'll be missing out on this. You'd have to pay me to play it since I'll either shit my pants or die from a heart attack/panic attack.

Are we gonna keep saying that after the game releases?
Nothing is gonna change.
It is what is it is.

It's quite obvious that this trailer and the demo are the found footage portions of the game, and not representative of the full experience.

Maybe these tapes are the new collectables, so instead of reading through someone's diary, you actually play what happened to them.

Was about to post needs serious AA improvement but wow they look great. I wish it looked this good in-game. Does it?

As been said many many times. These are teasers to 'some' elements of the game...

Spot on.

Capcom you gave us a demo and two trailers that are "not represantive of the final game" then when are we gonna see the actual game?

The demo was brilliant for what it was but I do worry about a full length campaign being more of the same thing. It feels too far off from RE, Capcom should have just created something new, associating the name "Resident Evil" to it is just weird to me.

Anyway, if the dummy finger isn't in the game in some shape or form I'm out.

It's alienated some fans; it's got some fans pretty excited.

Any change to an existing formula is obviously going to alienate a certain set of fans. Whether or not it wins over more than it alienates remains to be seen, and we won't know until after the product is out.

I'm not a RE fan to begin with, but I want to know how does this different from the 1000 FPS horror games on Steam.
