Resident Evil (DS)

Eh, Resident Evil on any handheld, DS or PSP, seems a bit sketchy to me. The little speakers on either handheld will not do the atmosphere justice. I'm not so sure a horror game can be done well without a TV or monitor. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, hell, I hope I am, but a survival horror game doesn't really fit well with a handheld in my opinion.

Also, do we need another remake of the original? I know Capcom likes ports and remakes, but this is getting a bit ridiculous.

And with the DS's limited 3D capability, why bother making it full 3D? I'm sure the DS could more than adequately display the traditional prerendered backgrounds and actually have it look pretty neat.

I thought Ridge Racers and Shin Sangoku Musou surpassed 300K in Japan?
Not since we last got totals (April 10th)...

2. Ridge Racers - Namco - 274,682
3. Shin Sangoku Musou - Koei - 268,514

Ugh, for the 10th time, the DS can do better 3D than we've seen, but someone just has to do it.

If this come true, Capcom has lost the common sense.. the RE1 levels aren't fit for the RE4 camera..

SJFLKSDJFKL Jesus are you even reading the thread? Come on, they'll design so it WILL be fit for the RE4 camera.

Dreamcast is the precedent here... It used a proprietary GD-ROM which held about 1 GB, yet games were pirated on CD-ROM, thanks to hackers that removed stuff like music & cut scenes. I am sure the same will happen with PSP.

Also, 2GB memory sticks exist and are dropping in price all the time...
Doesn't matter, almost all PSP games are under 500MB anyway so far (some going under 100MB even). None are over 1GB yet afaik.

And er, how many N64 ports have there been? :P
Three so far...

01 Super Mario 64 DS (Nintendo EAD): more complex modeling, new texture sets
02 Ridge Racer DS (NST): added lighting effects
03 Rayman DS (DC Studios): massive slowdown

...I'd say Mario 64 looks a bit better, RR looks on par with the N64/PS1 releases and Rayman 2 looks way worse than any other version.

I believe THUG2R is 1.1 GB, unless I saw a dummy file....

So.....has this even been 100% confirmed yet?

Err well some hack on a RE fansite called REhorror supposebly spoke to his "official" Capcom source who "confirmed" it was fake:
I got an official confirmation from Capcom that "RE Remake on Nintendo DS" is fake news published by this british magazine NGC.

There's actually a little truth in the article and thats the fact that Capcom is/was thinking about a handheld RE.

Thats all. This is official.

Would a Future publishing mag (Edge, Games Master, NGC, Official PS2 Magazine, Official Xbox Magazine, PC Gamer, PC Zone, PSM2, PlayStation World, Xbox World) really pull this out of their ass?

Either the magazine is right and rehorror.com is misinformed, or it's the other way around.

Hmm, the more I think about it, the more I rather see a spin-off based around the capabilities of the DS. Metal Gear Ac!d is prob my favorite PSP game right now and that plays nothing like the home MGS games. I think companies should take that approach to bringing over home franchises that were not originally made as handheld IP to both the DS and the PSP.

As far as straight ports of home console games, I feel that should be a no no depending on the genre. Thankfully, if this proves to be true one day, this game will not be a straight port based upon the current information. Sorry if I got off topic with all this, but just something that was running through my head today.

Agreed. Mikami's right in that RE just isn't suited to handhelds in it's current form.

Man, I really disagree about RE not being suited to portable. I sort of look at it like gamings version of a horror book. It's all the scary, but in the palm of your hand! I think that'd be awesome if you could work yourself up. But maybe that's just me.

Anyway, I'm so happy to hear RE is coming to a portable. Now bring us Silent Hill and my love will be complete.

Yeah, same here.

RE + headphones on DS in the dark? I think that can be done well, if they take the time.

Yamaoka's already said that a handheld version won't happen in the series current form. If there is one it won't be focused on horror.

So I've heard. But wasn't there a Silent Hill game for GBA already? And then again, didn't Capcom say that they didn't feel Resident Evil was suited for a portable? And that changed quickly, eh ;)

I know, no real indication. It's just pointless wishing on my part.

The GBA version of SH was a text adventure game. The SH team seems to have alot more control over the series overall.

Stop spoiling my party, asshole! I want to believe!

No, it didn't change anything besides RE GBC being canceled in factor of that crappy action game. Capcom's stand is still that survival horror isn't suited to handhelds (spinoffs are okay though).
