Resident Evil Requiem - Creators' Message (Capcom Spotlight)

I wish they'd just force everybody into FPV instead of giving options. Anyway, I am not really looking forward to this game for some reason.

Speak for yourself.

The series was founded as a third person game and it should remain that way.

I hate first person shooters, they've made me more nauseous as I've aged and my main TV has gotten larger.

For me Resi 2 Remake is the best game in the series, new games should build from there.

As long as they're willing to put in the effort to make both perspectives work well then I'm all for it.

Im also glad they came out said it; the old guard are too badass to be the MC of a horror game. Just stick to those guns (huehue) and don't drop Leon into the final hour of the game for some rootin' tootin' gun slinging action like Chris in Village. He can be DLC or in the extra game mode.

Actually was built on fixed isoperspectives, not OTS. Also RE1 was originally pitched as 1st person, but the technology was too weak.

I'd love an over the shoulder remake in REX Engine.

That fixed camera and tank controls don't go down well today, it's aged.
Nope. Onimusha 2 HD remaster recently has been great. Very refreshing too, going back to that style for a change.

The fixed camara if done right adds an extra layer of atmosphere and enhances horror. Devil May Cry V is much worse in this aspect due to changing to free camara.

The tank control must be updated, tbough.

Lmao does anybody here actually buy that Leon isn't in the game?

For one, they didn't actually ever confirm that he isn't playable. They just spoke around it and stated he doesn't work with horror. He does, however, work with the "overcoming your fears" part of their goals. IMO it makes sense that Grace will have the pure horror sections while Leon has the more action focused campaign. She'll introduce and escape threats, he'll actually end them. Otherwise, there was no reason to specifically mention Leon.

Second, they've already confirmed that there's a second playable legacy character who has an arsenal of weapons. That already flies in the face of any thought to the contrary. If anything, their "We wanted Leon as protag" comment basically confirms who that second character is, because it doesn't make sense to say you can't use Leon because he's too capable, and then feature Chris or Jill instead when they're functionally the same as the protagonist you actually want to use.

Third, they've shown they aren't above a bit of trolling and misdirection with comments with the way they handled the original reveal. IMO this is just that.

I actually like Grace. She feels vulnerable, weak. And she, by not looking like a man, is also a plus in my book.

And I think the devs have a point saying that they cannot associate no longer Leon with "horror" theme. I mean, the dude can kill pratically every single B.O.W. with a knive, he's the John Wick of RE Universe. But if it's for a more action oriented segment (within the game), Leon is more than welcome for us to play with him.

And I think we are seeing that since RE7. The new and more vulnerable character for the survival horror gameplay, and the legacy characters (the old crew), for the action part.

P. T. Demo., but with lighter! Switch perspective, now super ultra!
People here: day one buy omega hype!

Like that other poster said, I don't get it. It's just.. Walking with a lighter. Wew. Nothing of value shown, and the dudes talking reminds me of this cringe:

Of course I still hope it'll be a good game, but..

Ive loved every single RE game since 7 but I agree, they haven't shown anything exciting. I am interested only because theyve been putting out great games for a while.

I really want them to wow me though.

Because at this point Leon way too experienced which you can't make proper horror game which kinda turns in to action game rather that horror like what happened with RE6....heck even with RE4.
I get it, but I been a Leon fan since the og re2. After the remakes of 2 and 4, would had like a new re game feature Leon. Hopefully the next game.

Yeah, for me the characters are the heart of Resident Evil and so RE7 is near the bottom of my RE list even though I thought it was a decent horror game. The Bakers were cool, but Ethan is the opposite of what I am looking for from my RE games.

Basically, I fell in love with RE games once I saw this 30 years ago:

I ended up skipping Village and watching a playthrough on youtube. Something I never did before for an RE game. Just not interested in the first person perspective with a faceless protag. Maybe I would have given this one a shot if it was FP since we at least get to see Grace in cutscenes, but not sure.

But I am basically of the mind that I want to see a NEW game done in the style of either RE2 Remake or RE4 Remake. I am cool with both styles. I mean, I am also cool with fixed perspective, but that seems less and less likely as time goes on.

So it would be nice to see what a third person combat encounter looks like in this game. I want a large variety of enemies...not just unkillable bosses that you need to run away from constantly. Once again, I loved Alien Isolation....but it's not what I am looking for from a RE game.

No game series is still relevant after nearly 30 years without changing something.
DMCV is an awesome game, just one or two nitpicks like V character playability.

I think Capcom isn't 100% sure on the future direction of the series, and is slowly revealing RE9 information to gauge audience reaction.
So far they've revealed a new female character, both 1st / 3rd person, with a focus on horror.
This resulted in 1 million wishlists on steam.

if a returning character gets revealed later with more action based gameplay and the fan reaction is even higher it will give capcom more insight into the type of games the fans are looking for.

Reveal the collector's edition that will be either GameStop exclusive or impossibly hard to get.

Completely read this in Dafoe's voice, as if he were talking to Peter.

If theres no Leon this seems like a big mistake to me. Going back to raccoon city with Leon revisiting it after all he's been through would be a bitter sweet surreal moment. This just sells itself. You go back to the rpd and raccoon city it's gotta be Leon there. How do you not.
Afaik here's no footage of the new girl beyond the hotel. Devs could be lying.
I've no interest in playing a "daft wee girl frightened by shit falling over in the dark" simulator. 8 got a good action/horror mix. Gimme that with Leon dealing with his ptsd from a career of fucked up things and dealing with what still haunts him about the first worst day at work any gaming protag has ever had.

The game is months away, not much they can change in time at this point

Village was quite literally a Greatest Hits album of every Resi element they could awkwardly cram into one game. I was hoping they'd get that out of their system and figure out how to move forward confidently, focus and find a way to not make it blatantly "each style in its separate corner".

It'd be cool to see them properly blend all those disparate elements into a whole that is as compelling and focused as a RE2R or RE4R. I expected RE9 to do that after Village and not do what are essentially themed levels again.

Leon PTSD simulator sounds kine of hilarious. Instead of health you just constantly monitor his PTS meter or the sight of an enemy sends him into shaking fits. At the end it's revealed he just had a flashback at the grocery store and his wife is like "Oh Leooonnnn" and everyone chuckles.

In first-person perspective, her body does not appear, right? So I cannot look down and see the boobs like in Trespasser (was the only good feature of that game)

It will be the same you expect in RE7-8 POV first person, was said by the person I spoke to at the event and behind closed doors.

Interesting

Either the "insiders" were completely wrong or CAPCOM wants it to be a big surprise once Leon enters the scene. Doesn't matter to me, I'm always there day 1 for RE.

Once this new character has overcome her fears and completed her journey to become the new series girlboss, Leon can enter for the shooting parts. RE7 after the boat and several parts of Village devolved into full blown shooter.

Is not just about being "tough cookie" it's more about Leon too experienced fighting zombies and other monsters…his no longer the rookie cop he was back in RE2.
Sure but from a gameplay and "horror" perspective you were still slapping the monsters. The only "experience" he gained is suplexing them later on. At no point have we ever felt Leon being in trouble.

Yawnn ... who cares about Leon . For me the female cast are more interesting than him in RE games .

Jill - nuff said , she's awesome in REmake and original RE3
Ada Wong - superior version of Leon , witty , mysterious

And now this new character Grace , love her design and she's more suitable as a character if they wanted to make this horror centric , which is the route that I vastly preferred .

RE4 has zero ounce of horror and fear factor .

I like your attitude. So much so I would invite you around for dinner with me and my missus, playing Resident Evil and Mario Party together.

I argue in RE2 he was especially against Mr.X but RE4 and RE6 he was doing flashy melee finishers, he felt very strong.

You are not gonna see Grace pulling stuff like this in RE9.

Everything after RE3 starting with RE4 stopped being Classic Horror and went full action game with the exception of RE7. Of course with RE7 DLC with Chris and Joe Baker it went back to Action game. Limited controls, fixed angles and not knowing what was around the corner is what made the Survival Horror what it was.

RE9 so far seems to be taking notes from Alien Isolation and that's a good sign. But we will see if it's more then just another Stalker Corridor Horror game.

I Think older fans understand that Resident Evil is no longer ever going to be strictly classic horror like how it was because it's too strong of an ever green IP and its global reach.

There's still a lot of old toxic people out there that have not moved on, mentally ill due to the nature of some of gaming's scene. just the way it is.

My partner enjoys the same stuff and series so I am happy never having to ever enjoy that insanity lol.

Good to be well fed by Capcom.

I'll be honest I was hoping for something closer to RE4 remake but honestly I shouldn't have expected that quality. This is another neo RE like VII or Village. I'm okay with that, but it isn't the direction I would have preferred. RE sucks compared to Silent Hill for this kind of game(always has). However, RE kicks silent hill's ass in actual combat gameplay so I wish they would each stick to their niche.

Nothing wrong with them evolving the IP or branching out. After all Indies continue to provide with games like Signalis, Crow Country and soon Flesh made Fear. Samurai Unicorn, Nightmare Operator, Ground Zero also seem promising.

Eh those expecting more RE4R I feel should wait until Gamescom or closer to release because right now we still don't know the scope of where the game completely takes place. All we have is a couple hallways.

Edit: If they can nail that Alien Isolation feel of paying attention to the sounds you or anything makes it could be a winner. Getting scared of falling buckets could attribute to any sound alerting the Stalker enemy and makes things very tense because of it.

In Isolation you generally have certain things you want to accomplish but the Alien gets in the way of those objectives and it becomes a test of endurance to navigate around the danger to complete those objectives in a mostly helpless state.

My point is people gotta stop pretending RE was scary with the protagonist being a weaksauce. We blasted through every monster from day 1 baby.

I get RE was always action horror game but I still want horror, I LOVED RE4 but I wouldn't call that game survival horror, that game was straight up action game.

Also I replayed original RE and RE 2 recently they actually scary moments.

I might not be fan of first person view in RE VII but I'm actually glad brought back horror to series.
