Resident Evil Requiem - Creators' Message (Capcom Spotlight)

My point is people gotta stop pretending RE was scary with the protagonist being a weaksauce. We blasted through every monster from day 1 baby.
Fuck yeah, I knifed nemesis on hard mode in the original.

Ultimately, there comes a point in every horror game where the once scary enemies just become another obstacle. At that point if the combat mechanics aren't fine tuned and engaging, the game will fall flat.

This is why I went back for replays on RE2, 3, 4, but going back to do village again seems like an absolute chore.

I would hate that so much, one of the things I like about RE9 is they going for more stylize characters design rather than photo realistic crap.
Just because they don't look photo realistic as human beings doesn't mean that wasn't the devs intention.

Consider the following character. Can you elaborate in what ways this is going for a stylized representation of a person instead of just realistic?

If they did they would go with scan face like they did with DMC5.

I personally not big fan of that.

Why does every Leon "fan" mention RE2 and RE4 and completely ignore Leon is in RE6. That's 3 games. lmao.
Yeah we already have 3 game with Leon, it not all that exciting to play as him again.

Also Grace has connection forgotten RE Outbreak because of her which to me is very exciting.

I personally happy with this decision Capcom made.

There's always a risk of hitting somewhere in between. Where game is not really scary and not really action oriented.
That's the best balance since it's more like what the original Trilogy and RE1 Remake and RE2 Remake and even RE3 Remake were.

Like say it goes

Horror to action meter

Level 1 - Something like Alien Isolation
Level 2 - RE7 due to moving the slowest and less combat sections etc
Level 3 - RE1 to RE3 original trilogy/RE1 Remake/RE2 Remake
Level 4 - RE3 Remake
Level 5 - RE4/RE4 Remake
Level 6 - RE5/RE6
Level 7 - Space Marine 2

For Resident Evil level 3 to Level 4 are both easily the best balance.

It looks like RE9 could be anywhere from Level 2 to level 4 by the looks of it so far. So hoping it'll be more level 4 or level 3 rather than level 2. From the previews and dev talk, it'll most likely be either level 2 or level 3.

I totally get what you are saying. It only works if they execute well on both sides. Which was my point. Fingers crossed.

These new characters in RE games suck to be honest,

Not gonna lie, don't feel excited about Capcom games as of late

I thought Ethan was great to be honest because it went all the way back to basics adding tension with the scenario in 7. With how long the series has been going for you do need new blood to keep thijgs well because there's only so much you can do with legacy characters without risking it becoming stale.

I actually really like Grace both her design and her connection to past RE.

I love legacy characters but I also dont want keep playing as them which end up getting bored with them and eventually start hating them.

Ethan being a "nobody" didn't add tension. He gets his hand reattached with magic water almost immediately completely sucking the wind out of the opening. Capcom doesn't seriously care about that sort of thing anymore. As great as REmake 2 was, well Claire's game anyway, it's becoming pretty obvious that it's just a complete outlier in this current era of RE.

Problem with Leon is he is overused. Grace is a fresh face and will be great for a horror experience. Leon has already gone through Raccoon City, RE4, RE6, as well as several movies such as Degeneration, Damnation, Vendetta, miniseries Infinite Darkness and Death Island.

I prefer new characters to old ones in a Horror franchise. Use the same character and there is no horror element because they have "seen it all".

Exactly!

I will never understand why they made Ethan a faceless character. Like they were so opposed to feature him in a cutscene for whatever reason yet the guy had full on voice acting. Now you got Grace who is front and center for promoting RE9.
