Resident Evil Revelaitons |OT| 3D Jill Sandwiches

On the strongest setting, the 3D is very pronounced.

I never played Pilotwings though but as far as 3D on the system so far, the 3D in Resident Evil is definitely top-notch.

It doesn't change the gameplay or game like Mario 3D Land does but it's not hafassed 3D at all.

Thanks for the info, I,ll try demo it at a store to see what it looks like,I have been keen to get a 3Ds for ages but I just been waiting for that game that does the 3D really well so I can show my friends and blow their minds.

One thing is guaranteed, if this game bombs, forget it, don't even dream about it, it would be worthless, there won't be an old school Resident Evil ever again, we will al have to resign and cry while 8 millions of people play Resident of Duty: Modern Evil 6.
From the demo it really doesn't strike me as old school at all, it actually feels a little more streamlined than RE4 while doing a fine job at retaining the old atmosphere.

It's as close as we're ever going to get, and it strikes a magnificent balance. You can tell that the team is really trying hard to bring back the horror roots.

Do you guys think this game has a chance of becoming a big hit for Capcom/Nintendo? Being a main line RE, I'd think so. I'm sure Capcom is going to advertise it a lot, and Nintendo is going to help promoting it since it looks better than any other 3DS game out there.

If this game performs well, I think the chances of even better Japanese 3rd party support will increase.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
It looks really good, it's getting good pub from the demo, and reviewers have enjoyed things so far. This gives me hope that even if the game doesn't sell like OMG crazy at launch that it'll have legs.

As long as the 3d sells I can see this being the go to recommended 3rd party game for the rest of the year. Someone tells you they just picked up a 3DS or might get one, and one of the games people will say to play is RE. That in an of itself bodes well for Capcom and the RE franchise.

Resident Evil games usually sell at least a million copies on Nintendo platforms with RE: 4 Wii edition selling 1.9 million and GC version sold 1.6 million, RE : Umbrella Chronicles sold 1.4 million and RE Remake has 1.35 million. Darkside Chronicles reportedly sold poorly in the first three weeks of sales but Capcom apparently hasn't commented on how well its done since. Deadly Silence for DS is also in the same boat.

It feels like Eternal Darkness without the magic system.

Why they didn't use the left shoulder button for scanning is beyond me. Would made it so much better. Instead, you have to constantly switch between shooting and scanning.

Shame there's no insanity effects. This game would be perfect with it. Instead all you get is blood just splattered on your screen until you die or use a herb.

On the location-specific damage:
The few times I was struggling against the spiny guys and had to use my knife, I noticed hitting his limbs didn't seem to do damage at all, only body shots. There were blood spurts, but no perceived damage going on. Center-mass is the way to go. Also, I've had the exploding guys go up after one shot to four shots, and I can't tell if my shot triggers it or they do. Point is, it does seem to matter where you shoot them. I can't tell if head shots do more damage, but they seem to trigger a stagger more often when means a melee opportunity. Still, it is so easy to miss the head, doesn't seem worth it.

weirdest omission in this game is an option for touch based aiming. I'm not a fan of it on the 3/DS, but they already have it where you can slide to move the camera without aiming (acting as a right analog would). when you aim, the touch screen is just for weapon switching. as far as I can tell, there's no configuration or option to aim with the touch screen.

Oooh, if you make a Chris Redfield one, can I call dibs?

Been busy since the demo hit, but had the chance to play it once till I died, I was all set on disliking it after RE5, the demo on Resident Evil Mercs being rather limited (though had potential) and the lack of Mikami at the helm, but I gotta say this demo has me excited and in turn also excited about RE6. Will preorder the game soon.

love the demo, may play in 3D but damn 2D looks amazing :)
It's kind of funny just how many 3DS games are preferred in 2D thanks to AA and general performance boosts. It just about guarantees a good boost for 2D when the games are always balanced around 3D, and any game that fails to take advantage is just wasting those resources.

The 3DS has been a platform contradictions and tough decisions for the gamer. Gyro vs 3D, AA vs 3D, 60fps vs 3D, often a tough call. I've never seen anything like it on the console side.

Headshots definitely do more damage but it looks like some of ther RE4 and RE5 limb targeting stuff is gone. I couldn't stagger any of the enemies and I couldn't figure out how to trigger a melee attack.
You can stagger them by shooting them in the legs but it's not as effective as in RE4, which is fine by me, the feel and flow of the combat is different.

I'm not so sure tbh. I doubt they will put a lot of marketing into this one and with the reveal of RE6 right before the release of RE:R I also doubt the general public (so to speak) will consider this mainline. Then again RE:UC did pretty good and I doubted its success so I may be in for a surprise again.

Normally I'm ok with 3d and prefer it despite some minor IQ problems. RE looks sooooo jaggie in 3d mode. Way more apparent than in kart or OOT for me.
The jaggies are not too bad imo - what really hurts the effect is the shimmering on some textures which is not apparent in 2D. I still like the 3D effect though, will probably go for 3D in the normal playthrough and 2D in the hell playthrough.

Well we got to do our part then. I'd be fine with the console titles going the bro-gaming route if they give us a handheld line that's more in the spirit of the series.

I like everything about the demo except for the combat. I never got it to feel right. The enemy feedback was just abysmal.

The main menu and theme is absolutely breathtaking. That music is incredible and the bubbles and logo in super 3D are just stunning.

I agree, a lot of people have commented the same but it doesn't look like its gonna change in the final release.

.

What I found is if you adjust the slider a little there appears less shimmering (maybe it has to do with their offset)

I check it in the first room the wooden panels in closet against the wall. You will see when you have less shimmering.

For me it helps. I think i have the 3D in the menu on normal.

OK I'll try that, usually have the slider cranked all the way up. But if you turn down the slider on normal the 3D effect is not really that pronounced.

I don't really agree with that, but I have to say I love the video gamey feedback you get during Raid Mode. Reminds me of Borderlands. :3 It also highlights the different damage zones pretty well.

Leave it on strong, see what happends.. You see it when you hit the sweet-spot, can be as little as a nudge.

I explained it on the post above. If they wanna sell a game for $50, they better have the content to back it up. And in 5 years that's probably gonna happen twice or thrice for the system, but if, and that's a pretty big if, it's gonna encourage pubs to put out quality games for the system I'm all good.
That's how I feel, and why I was annoyed with the SE "tax" on the DS (and wonder if lingering resentment is salt on the wound for higher price tags). It was fine on FFIII, it was clearly a higher end effort, but it was annoying when it was indiscriminately used on every other title and I had had enough when the Valkyrie Profile came out WITHOUT the extra $5-10 going for a release that retained VA. I guess there's still the argument that localization itself is costly and the games simply aren't going to be justified to release without a higher price point, but crap like that really doesn't make it convincing it's worth the extra cash.

But I guess the same thing as then will apply here: if Capcom decides to pull similar crap, charging $50 for a compromised localization of a low end game then we can just wait for price drops.

Question about the UK CPP bundle: is this Zavvi an online-only retailer or do they have a brick and mortar presence too? Still need to get it pre-ordered, and I've got a friend in the UK who can help me (he's just studying there for a year).

Moreover, does Zavvi accept non-UK credit cards?

I have ordered from Zavvi and I got a Norwegian Visa card so the card shouldn't be a problem.

Awesome -- I've also checked out their FAQ section and they only restrict electronics shipments outside the UK, but game software is not explicitly forbidden. Guess I should give them a shot.

they are only online AFAI, not sure about the non-UK CC, but I cancelled my Order as they have a reputation for taking ages to send orders.

Gotcha. I even found this thread with a lot of questionable feedback.

Not sure how else I'll be able to get the exclusive bundle, so here goes nothing. I just wish I had the option to select faster international shipping.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Oh and yeah, the blood puddles look super bad. Easily the worst looking element in the demo.

I have to say, while I like that the 2D smooths the visuals out; it's hard not to want to use maxed out 3D. Just set the 3D sensitivity to maximum and then use the slider to compare. Things don't look as crisp but at the same time there's so much depth in the environment.

There are definite drawbacks of using full 3D and obviously not everyone will handle them the same way, but with increased sensitivity it's nice to really see the difference 3D makes.

Did anyone played in 3rd person?

maybe because of re4 and 5, but it feel right .

i played with 1st person mode 3 times and 3rd person 3 times.

I know the game plays to the system's strengths in order to hide its weaknesses (smaller enclosed environments, lots of dark areas so as to exaggerate the self-shadowing and take attention away from the lower poly models) but with footage like that I have a hard time seeing a *huge* difference in the quality of graphics between the 3DS and Vita.

And then I always have to remind myself that this will be on a really small screen, and my habitually full screening these trailers on my 47" HDTV doesn't do those graphics justice.

One thing I noticed about shooting in RE:R that I don't like (nitpick) is that the laser dot doesn't disappear when the creature is killed and going into its death animation, like in RE4 and RE5, which means it's easier to waste ammo on a dying target.
