Still going through Lufia 1...but damn if Suikoden 1&2, Grandia 1, Wild Arms 1, Magic Knight Rayearth, Dark Savior, or any of the other greats that I havent played / itching to replay arent pulling at me.

Of course that would be breaking my self imposed rule of not playing more than one retro RPG at a time. 1st world problems and all but damn lol.

Im at the part where you have to visit 3 different towers to get 3 different gems, and hit up Elfrea. I think its just the lack of large hitting events / interesting environments that are getting to me at this point.

I have a rule that I stop playing games when I get bored. I only started doing that in like 2012 or 2013... made playing video games a lot more fun.

If I get 40% of the way though, had a good time, but I'm not really feeling it any more? Just stop and don't worry about finishing.

I think i should keep reminding myself of that. I can always go back and finish the game, its not like its going anywhere. Actually the same thing happened to me with Shining in the Darkness, but strangely not with Dragon Quest I, which is one of the most plain JRPGs ever.

Got a FREE sega master system from one of my coworkers

Came with the light gun, 3D glasses and a couple of games will post later

I just need an AC adapter. The Sega model 1 works with it right?

I'm so used to this. The monthly games gave me extra motivation to finish

That SMS is in beautiful condition. One downside of old Segas is the wear very badly.

When your friend from Seattle visits and starts talking about his Retron5...
In the 'I don't need old consoles anymore this is better' Adam Koralik style way?

Been playing Metroid, shit is legit, great melding of action and the Super Metroid formula, and also a pretty faithful remake conceptually!

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
I wonder if my parents still have the photo of me wearing those glasses and with the phaser in my hand like the Terminator cover for Halloween as a kid.

There is one picture I didn't want to show, but.........im going to show it anyway

apparently the guy who had it before me did something to the RF switch.....tried to slice wire or something or it was loose. I don't know..... but it's OEM! IT'S OEM!

And thank you for the comments

The carts, manuals, game cases are in immaculate condition. There is virtually no scuff, scatches and marks on any of the carts, back and front.

Quoted for relevance; don't worry about a less than perfect RF Cable, you're gonna want to upgrade to a nicer cable instantly. Glad to hear that the games are in great condition, as that's what truly matters.

Great looking haul! The SMS is a cool looking piece of hardware, I love the redundant diagram on the front!

I have AV cables for my Genesis model 2 and for my PC engine which can be used for a model 1 which I think is compatible for the master system. ill good

and thank you

Time to invest in new friends?

Maybe, but everyone I know in Chicago is either ten years older and doesn't care about games or ten years younger and just plays shitty modern stuff...

Good idea :)

More in the doesn't know better but SNES and NES barely work so he just wants something that plays games. He was a TurboGrafx kid (ironically, originally from outside of Chicago) so I can forgive him for being a non-Genesis playing heathen.

Don't remind me about Metroid, Amazon still hasn't delivered mine or responded to my help request complaining that it said "Delivered" when it definitely has not been.

I'm so happy!

Today I finally got my hands on the final remaining Club Nintendo magazines that I've been searching for for many years now.
The very first one was quite expensive (€54), especially for a magazine of only 20 pages.
But this is a set that I've been wanting to digitise and preserve for over 10 years now. :D

I even got two of the other issues for free once the seller learned what I was planning to do with them!
Now, these are in quite bad condition, but I've done a couple of equally challenging restorations, so I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be able to get them all back to their former glory.

Gonna start scanning these next weekend. :)

Here's an example of the end result when all is said and done:

The maximum resolution version of this magazine can be found here if anyone's interested.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Hmm... okay, so I'm flying down to Austin today, and I need something to do, both on the plane and while I've got downtime. Probably just bringing my 3DS. Gonna play Metroid while I'm there, but I don't want to play it on the plane, because I want to be able to appreciate the audio and stuff. So... what should I play on the plane?

On 3DS? In all seriousness if you haven't already played it New Super Mario Bros 2. It's a very well put together Mario game that got overlooked by a lot of people because it came out around the same time as like 17 other Mario games. Plus it's pretty quick to finish and, considering how much people complain about the music, would do very well without audio.

I played most of the obvious stuff, including NSMB2. There's got to be an obscurity or two that I missed, so I don't end up playing Sega 3D Classics stuff for the entire flight again, like I do literally every time.

Interesting. I've still only ever played Ys on PC Engine lol. It's quite similar to the Sqeenix 'egg' store I randomly stumbled upon.

After three amazon representatives, Metroid is finally on its way.
My Japanese Special edition has arrived today! I've collected Metroid games in Japanese since the 90s.

Awesome project. Material like this is part of the fabric of games from that time.

Really interesting Club Nintendo scans! Never heard of that publication. I'd love to get the first two volumes of the Nintendo Fun Club News but they are crazy expensive now.

Guys, come help! I'm incredibly disorganized!

This looks pretty cool. I'll have to watch it tomorrow at work. I wonder how long it will be there.

You should play other versions. Ys is a wonderful series.

Thanks. :)

I've been wanting to do these since around 2004 or so and along with the official Sega Saturn magazine, this was the publication that got me into doing all this.
The only problem I had was that my original copies were all in Dutch since I'm in Belgium, and I did scan those back in the day, even though I realised that their appeal was a lot more limited than the original UK version.
The Benelux edition was a carbon copy of the UK magazine with the only difference that the text was translated.

So I started hunting down the English magazines and got a whole bunch of them, but for some reason 5 early issues kept eluding me.
I've seen an issue 1 pop up as of late, but the seller wants €100+ from it and that's just crazy money for a 20 page leaflet that was given away for free to anyone who filled in a card that came with Nintendo games and sent it in.

But it's true, depending on your personal situation, these classic magazines could play a huge part in your experience of this hobby, so I'm doing what I can to try and make sure these will be around for a long time. :)

For me personally, there are 2 issues that stand heads and shoulders above the others when it comes to nostalgia overload.

The first one being the issue where the Game Boy was first explained:

And the second one where the Super NES was introduced:

These ones are not yet edited btw.

This magazine would arrive once every 2 months so by the time the next one came around it felt like I went through the last one a thousand times.

Still remember like it was yesterday how me and my friends would try and get our heads around having Mario, Six and Alleyway on the go.
Up till that point the only portables I'd had were several Game & Watches and MB's Microvision, so this looked like such a revolution.
Started saving up my allowance to be sure that I could get one whenever it came out in the local toy store. :)

Same with the Super Nintendo. Those few images of Castlevania, Mario and Wrestlemania blew my mind. They looked as good and even better than the arcade games I was playing at the time.
When the system finally came out, I remember pretending to be sick from school. Only problem with that was that I wasn't allowed to leave the house to go and get the system. DOH!
Luckily my mom (who completely saw through my scheme) went to the shop and picked up the SNES I preordered along with Mario. :)

Great job bud! As someone who highly supports the preservation gaming projects, you've got my gratitude. I sometimes wonder what stuff Nintendo has in the vaults and what has been lost. They definitely have a lot more stuff saved over than say Sega does.

I know this feeling all too well in a different way. I only bought a few Nintendo Power magazines, but I would go to the library to repeatedly read and keep up with the OXM and Nintendo power Magazines when I was younger. Totally different era. It was a time when GAF was sort of in it's infancy and forums weren't all that reliable at getting information. Forums felt a lot more fanboyish then they are now

Whelp, I finally ordered my PSIO. See how long it takes to go across the pacific. I have to say, I hope ripping my discs isn't going to be a huge pain because I haven't backed them up in years. Also, I am fairly sure my disc drive is dead on my pc. I think its probably for the best that I get an external one because I rarely use and would rather have fans in that space.

I'm not too far into Samus Returns... but it's kinda... bland so far. Especially the audio.

Also I hate to be that guy, but the 30FPS impacts the experience more than I thought it would.
