Very well, the screen is fantastic, the multiple scaling options make the best out of the non-native res screen, and the vertical scanline filter is a great feature that completes the "look" of the games. I still play it and would spend even more time with it if I had a stronger attachment to the library. Meaning, the games are good but I need to find out what's worth a play, while with something I grew up playing (NES) I know the classics and have my library of personal favorites I can jump right into. My last played games were Jungle Strike, T2 The Arcade Game, Outrun and Alien 3.

The ebay modder/seller didn't cut a hole and install a VGA connector, but the functionality is in there and I can have it done later.

PM'd you.

Thanks dude.

I never see master system stuff in retro stores around here, very cool to see.

nice, m'man! enjoy! man that PBC was a godsend in the day

also love all 3 of those SMS games, but fuck i'm tempted to cheat to see the end of alien syndrome one day
i want to play alien syndrome now, i'm hunting for a SMS pad as i type =)

Uhnn... The SEGA Master System has been my very first home console, and every time I see a photo showcasing SMS games... Man, the nostalgia. And the subtle desire to start collecting again for that system too.
What stops me is the fact I couldn't go PAL, now, and prices for Japanese SMS (boxed, complete and in nice conditions) seem generally pretty steep.

Nice pickups! I only had one friend that had a Master System that lived down the street, Shinobi and Space Harrier were the only games I experienced.

thanks guys!

i was about to pick up space harrier but the case had all tea stains.

Yeah, its definitely a cool game!

I'm officially hooked! If the latter games are just as good or better, I'm in for the long haul. Only thing I want now is a damned map. They like making labyrinthine areas and there's no map I can see. Gets a little frustrating at times, but everything else is very satisfying.

The Sega 3D classics "compilation" cart release is like $18 on amazon now. Highly recommended for 3DS-owning Sega fans. It's pure M2 magic.

Its good, but the party system introed there and seems to be stuck in Ys now kinda kills the lone hero aspect. Then again, they seem to be into the "3 games with similar combat systems then change up" mind set.

Can't wait to start working again so I can pick up the rest of the games. Interview tomorrow. Hope I get in. I just beat Ys II. that game alone carries the chronicles release. Seriously needed a map though. Heh

Anyone know of any UK based sites that specialise in power adapters for retro consoles?

Im after replacement power adaptors for my AV Famicom and Japanese (or may be Asian) Mega Drive.

I think the AV Famciom is...

10v, 850ma and center pin negative not sure on barrel size

And MegaDrive

10v 1.2a and center pin negative and 5.5mm x 2.1m,m barrel size

But seems really hard to find any adaptors that are 10v and with the correct barrel size

Have you checked this site, I do BELIEVE they're UK based, but not 100% sure on that.

I posted this in the PC Engine thread but I'll post here too.

Looks like the dude who makes the Rhea and GDEMU is working on one for the PC Engine Duo. Kind of a double edge sword since his shit is so hard to get.

I'm barely on the first dungeon on Ys II... So far it obliterates Ys I! The pacing of the combat and leveling is fantastic.

Are you playing on PC Engine? I have this but haven't gotten around to it yet!

I'm interested in the 3rd Ys. I don't have a Duo though.

The third one is good, but it's kind of the Zelda 2 of the Ys series. It goes side scroller while all the previous ones (and the 2 IVs) are top down views. It has an attack button, no bumping attacks here. It's definitely worth playing, and it's fun but it's shorts.

I can't comment on the remake (Oath in Felghana) but either of the other 2 16 bit versions are worth playing too.

I played through 3 on the duo and played through like 1/3 of it on both Genesis and SNES (plan on finishing them at some point). It's a really short game so running through all of them isn't that big of a deal.

IMHO this is the way to play Books I+II. Such good music, it combines them into one game, it just works so well. I love this version.

*edit*

Wait Mega are you in NJ too, did I know that? We should all drink together at a NAVA some time.

No, I'm in Brooklyn! David came through once for a BVM I was selling. I'm not going to NJ, my ass doesn't drive :p

I have only played Ys Origins on Steam PC for any good amount of time. I also have Felghana (Ys 3, right?) but haven't played yet. I'll definitely need to dig into these PC-E versions first if they're as good as you say.

I'll take it! i will give it some attention it needs =)

jk, Mega, i really wanted to go dumpster diving with you this weekend for a PVM. I hope we can do it next time!

Next time! I posted in the Upscalers threads that I'm giving away some CRTs if you want any. They all work but have issues.

You should definitely like Ys III then. My first playthrough of it was probably in the 9 - 10 hour range. I'd say any subsequent playthroughs would probably be in the 5 hours area, maybe even less.

It's really kind of like a boss rush game, more than a regular Ys game.

Ahhhhh. Like 2% of the NYers I know drive. lol Though still I wonder how many others from Retro gaf are in the area. Maybe we could do a meet up in the future in the City.

I JUST started my first playthrough of Origins. I'm actually using an 8BitDo SFC30 to play through it so it feels more retro. Yeah Felghana is the modern remake of 3, I haven't played it though, just the 16 bit versions of 3. I've heard they add a lot to Felghana.

One of these days I'm going to have to get a PSP 3000 and the component cables. So I can play Felghana and 7 on my tv.

I love outside of Philly and I think Peltz does too. I know there's someone else that frequents the retro boards, but I can't seem to remember.

Yeah man! but thanks for inviting me. Hopefully, next time i'll be free. I'll be in Philly all weekend, so i'm going to try to check out a few stores that were recommended in the area. but i'm traveling with a group so i might not get a chance.

Gutted they don't have any NTSC SNES Power adapters in stock

I'm not sure what the UK scene is like, but I'd assume that power adapters are pretty common, no?

Just grab one off US ebay and plug it into your converter? Is the issue about shipping fees? Sorry, I'm pretty ignorant about what retro collecting of NTSC stuff is like in the UK.

I have Ys I&II Chronicles on the Vita ... need to play that series. I think I got wiped out right after the first town but didn't save or something. Then I didn't want to watch the intro and talk to all the townspeople again. Need to go through with an FAQ and just get through the first game so I can experience the second game and the rest of the series....

Nah not at all, that barrel size the NTSC system uses is super obscure and not common at all. There are guides on just making a small extension cable that has the correct barrel size (Maplin in the UK stock the correct part) but i would prefer a single solution without extension wires

Have you tried a universal power adapter? You can set the volts, amperes and polarity, and they come with a dozen of different connectors for every machine out there. I have one that came with 25 different plugs that cost me about 30€.

Guess thats an option (be it a more expensive one) but http://en.retrogamesupply.com/ may get them back in stock soon in which case it wont be an issue i guess

Is there anything like the Retron but for Sega CD or Saturn?

Why would you want a retron of any kind?

Shitty overpriced emulation based laggy badly built piece of crap with the software consisting of a completely pirated/ripped version of retroarch

Just get the real thing or use retroarch on your PC.

I don't mean an actual retron, only using it as an example. Just wondering if there was a console alternative to the actual hardware that plays physical games.

Softmodded xbox has a sega cd emulator that lets you use original discs if you wish. I think the Wii emu for sega cd doesn't work with original discs tho.

I want to be able to put the disc in, hit the power button and be playing the game. Don't want to deal with emulators at all. It would be nice if there was some clone system or something that could do this and was hdmi-ready, and it functioned as more than one system, but I don't think there is.

I mean... You could grab og hardware and a Framemeister. Otherwise, double clicking on an emulator icon really isn't much work.

I can't recommend the PSP's TV Out. It's kind of blah. SD resolution signal in a tiny window. I calculated it's using a meager 340 TVL of my monitor's 800, possibly not quite enough to resolve 480 pixels of PS2-level graphics. I dunno, I just wish the huge border were a toggle and I could run it full width 16:9 at least as my monitor is fully capable of it. It's ridiculous.

PC Engine Duo/Duo-R

PlayStation 1
